.90 Big $$$ Race

So I'm not too sure how many of the follow .90 guys out there visit other parts of Classracer.com but, I came across a race that Lee Zane and Brian Van Poppel are putting up for the Stock / Super Stk guys and gals at Numidia on May 7th. Now I know their has been A LOT of griping and complaining going on about how NHRA is raising the cost of entry fee's, how they brought back the oil down policy, the pit bike deal, etc. So I know Jim Fordyce posted this question about a year ago on this site about a big dollar .90 race and he didn't get much response or comments back. Well a few Super Comp and Super Gas guys shot me an e-mail after reading Brian's post in the Stk/SS form and asked me what my thought's were on a big $$$ .90 race and to be honest with you I would love to put one together but, I'm afraid of the turnout of cars, getting sponsors, etc....so I'm going to throw it at the fellow members of the .90 class racer form on the east coast. What do you think of a 1 shot big $$ .90 race?? This is the time to see how much the sportsman guys will stick together for a big race and it maybe up against a NHRA Race. Not saying when or where, I just want feedback...time to put the money on the table and see who's all in. Below is how Brian and Lee's structure works out.....

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

This is a good idea and reminds me of the"National Challenge" back in the 70's that was held Labor day weekend....go figure. Most big names went but NHRA lured them back. This is a good idea but too far north for most of us down here in God's country but I would go if it was closer. The fuel costs are a killer and closer the better. It takes money to promote these things so I hope you get it together. One suggestion at least get into the 90's take credit cards even at the gate.

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

I'm in! $$$$$
But we've had numerous discussions about this before with nothing ever materializing.
I don't know what it would take to motivate my fellow S/G racers, but a 125 car field in S/G is not realistic any more.
A 75 car turnout for S/G would be within reason, and could still provide a very good payout.
Pre entry discount ,or a payout bonus for pre entries may encourage some racers.
If someone is willing to put in the effort to do this in D1 I will support it, But if it becomes someones idea of a Super Elim Combo race , forget it, I am not a bracket racer.
If I was any good at handicap racing ,and I'm not, there are plenty of big money gambler races I'd go to.
As far as taking credit cards, this should be a CASH payout race , I dont think MASGA or the Super comp assn. are equipped to take credit cards, let alone give up the percentage points.

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

what about a combo race with super comp? like a 9.40 index
i dont nkow how the super gas guys will feel about racing dragsters, keep them seperate as long as possible then merge together. would be a way to get the car count up.

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

Well even if it's a $5,000 to win S/G and $ 5,000 to win S/C and for fun in the end have a King of the Track race with the 2 winners. I'm not all for having Dragster vs. Car either cause then it's almost like a high $$ bracket race. Like I said I'm just throwing this around and seeing what people think about it. I thought Brian and Lee's idea was great and from the e-mails I got so did a few other people. If it works out really depends on sponsors stepping in and the interests from the .90 racers.

Hold it on the same weekend. That would be awesome, just like a National/Divisional without the bs.

Id be in for the .90 and the stock superstock combo

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

Would 10.90 be included in this race? sounds like an awesome idea and I would definately be in........like someone else just said pay 5K to the winner of each class. Coincidentally, I believe IHRA is doing the same thing this year with their sportsman spectacular events held at Budds Creek and Richmond. $200 entry and paying 5K plus contingencies to the winners of every sportsman class! :)

Does sound very interesting. If it does start taking shape were would you want to run it, make it close (ohio area) to Div.3 and i think the car count would be pretty good.

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

Boo Boo and Iceman,

Numidia used to draw a lot of D-3 cars when they had a D-1 race back in the early 2000's. It's in the middle of Pa and it's a drive for both D-1 and D-3 guys but, the track is smooth and very nice. Plus those of us who have little ones can hit Knoebels one of the days for a day out with the family. That's what we normally do with MASGA. Bob openes the gates early for us on Friday, we park go to Knoebels, come back watch the street racing, then race on Sat and Sun.
Dale, would love to come to MIR in July but, Lex put MASGA on the same weekend at Maple Grove for us. Tried to move it around but, had no open dates to do anything with. Loved going to MIR last year for the MASGA Race.

MIR is a great track and has plenty of room .this would be a good location for a BIG .90 race, maybe promot as North vs. South.
or there is always a race within the race> all s/g racers put in 20 or 30 bucks before 1st rd. and winner take ALL. for an added payout

Numidia will be great, they do an excellent job there and the track is well maintained. i didnt notice thats where Lee's race would be , only makes sense to piggyback on top of them.

Alittle over a hour Frank, but to get the car count you have to go to the middle,

Numidia - 585 miles
Budds Creek - 530 miles
Both hard tows (up & down & up & down.....better stop, might get wrong idea)

Either way, I will be on road for a while. Just have to see.

Yeah and from what I just googled Maple Grove is not that close either for you. I was looking at either Numidia or Maple Grove

I agree BK. That was my point of "either way I'll be traveling decent distance". It's cool, I drove 590 to Earlville last year (not a good decision) and been to MIR few times running IHRA events. Where I live, it's a ride to many tracks. Just the way it is. I'm okay driving with the chance for very good payout.

Eric, I will attending the IHRA Pittsburgh Divisionals but they are not running Stk, SS, HR, SR, QR, TS, TD at the Pittsburgh National. Only Bracket, Jr.s , and Nitro Show. So looks like just the Divisional weekend for me.

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

It's cool. Hell, I think they should have 2 races this year, one in each location or region.

Everyone screams about payouts and contingency issues or reduction. This is a way to provide another avenue/option. So, I'm all for trying to establish one or two "high dollar" .90 races.

Most guys that run the .90 classes don't run many bracket races. (Specially in 10.90 and 9.90 classes. The 8.90 is probably a different ratio due to the "dragster" effect), and I think these "high dollar" type events can be successful with strategic sheduling, awareness of region, and payout structure.

I like running the sanction .90 events (NHRA and IHRA) but I think it would be awesome to have a couple high payout events a year to attend. I'm planning on attending the IHRA "Sportsman National events" this season mainly because the $5,000 to win payout with contingency. Otherwise I wouldn't normally go to MIR (no points at Nitro Jam events) or Virg (unless I was qualified for TOC as last year).

I say "Lets Race" :), I'd go today if garage was't snow in and car wasn't still disassembled! LOL

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

So during my lunch break I called and talked to Bob over at Numidia about a .90 big $$$ race for Super Comp, Super Gas and if we get enough interest maybe Super Street. Remember I'm not in this for myself, I'm a racer like everyone else on here and it's time for us to start branching out on our own. I won't be racing that weekend so I will be working with the Numidia Crew to make sure everything runs smooth cause the last thing I want it to get a bad rap. Here are the details:

I picked Numidia because it is central located for D1 and D3 racers and some D2 guys if they wanted to come up. I modeled the pay structure off of some of the feedback on this site. I think what Tom Goldman said is correct and we would average about 75 to 85 cars per class. I also looked around at some track schedules such as Maple Grove and Atco to see what was going on those weekends and didn't schedule anything on those weekends if their was a big race going on. The date I came up with is Saturday, August 27th...it's the weekend before Indy and on a Saturday so anyone who is traveling to Indy can race on Saturday, load up and travel on Sunday to get to Indy for the gates to open. So here you go....FEEDBACK AND SPONSORS are more then welcomed and anyone who would like to help out feel free to e-mail me at ReKeister@aol.com:

The .90 Nationals @ Numidia Dragway August 27th
Parking - August 26th
Rain Date: August 28th

Payout based on 85 car entry - 7 round race (based off of if I get 85 per-paid entries by the May 31st deadline) if I get more then 85 cars per class the purse will go up!

Super Comp (8.90 index) & Super Gas (9.90 index) & MAYBE SUPER STREET (10.90)
Winner: $5,000
R/Up: $1,900
Semi’s: $1,000 x 1
ΒΌ Finals: $500 x 3
4th Rd: $225 x 5
3rd Rd: $120 x 11

Schedule:
Gates open at 8 or 9am
Racing starts at 11am
2 Qualifying Shots
1st round is random pairings (Just cause you pull up next to a racer doesn't mean you will race them)
2nd round will be put on a ladder and from there on:

Entry Fee: Check or Cash
Prepay by May 31st - $155.00
Prepay by July 17th (2nd chance) - $170.00
Pay at the Gate (last chance) - $200.00

Same weekend as the IHRA Div1 Pro Am at Virginia....FWIW...:(

Re: .90 Big $$$ Race

I understand the struggle with finding an open date but that weekend is on top of the D3 Bowling Green race and many racers from all divisions run that event then travel to Indy for US Nationals. Just seems that weekend wouldn't be optimum timing for a true D1 and D3 car count draw. Again, I know the scheuling is always and issue and never meets everyones needs.

Yeah after piling everything together the dates that didn't have a D-1, D-3 or an IHRA Race scheduled was July 15th & 16th or October 7th & 8th. I know I'm not going to make everyone happy with the date as much as I try.
