Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

Come in Michael....what's the situation in Immokalee?...have you set up a foward command post?..have you established a parimeter?...do you have a visual on the competition?...can you provide a discription?...Will operations be in the offensive or defensive mode? What sector will you begin your aggressive attack?...and how about some photos and onscene reports Mike. We gotta get you some help my brother! Look up Robbie Welch, red 66 Fairlane H/R car, he's trying to learn the "live from" thing! It's boring as hell up here in the cold listening to NASCAR radio on sirius. Good luck everyone, I know it's tough down there, what...about 78 and sunny !

Dude! This ain't an NHRA race! ;-) I wouldn't normally even leave until Friday, but the boss wanted to leave today. Hit a little rain (44deg) around Jacksonville, now about mile marker 143 in FL, 70deg.

Myron's at the track, and John Boyer... Think he said about three dozen rigs so far. Scotty Richardson's drag racing school tomorrow. Lindell Hilling's there with the gorgeous '55 Chevy. We'll get in about 9-10 pm

Michael,

Who all is making the road trip this time? Try to keep the Legend in check, and not too many honey buns. We need pictures. Even here in the "south", we are snowed and iced in...

Dallas does not deal with 4 days below freezing and single digit temps!

good luck guys, be careful

For those of you that missed them, I have deleted my previous 32 posts, each of which stated, "Florida. Still ridin'.". Picked up the trailer south of Palm Beach around 6, then headed west around Lake Okeechobee, Okinowa, Woebegone, or whatever it is. Got parked and settled, right between Boyer and perhaps the biggest and nicest rig to ever grace a dragstrip. I'm pretty sure that when we pulled in beside him, his home value plummeted. We'll see who our afflicted neighbor is in the morning. Whatcha think, mebbe another front-drive Stocker? Yeh, that's what I was thinkin' too. Might be a Jr. Dragster in there to go with it. :-)

Scotty School tomorrow, tech, maintenance schtuff, and a little testin' tomorrow night. 'Night!

Michael, I'll bet your parked beside 357 T/S John Benoit, Bane VT, '10 GXP, he got that rig right before Dutch Classic and we looked it all over and just drolled.
The truck alone cost more then a complete turn key SS/AH Cuda.
I took pictures of it.

Yep, that's him. Recognized the golf cart on the other side. As nice as it looks from the side, the nose is just AWESOME, looks like a freight train. Benoit is actually one of my brother's customers up in Vermont. I think he's into electrical. Must've just got up and about, as the generator is rollin... I'm pretty sure the generator is bigger than the engine in the Turismo. We might swap it in later and move up to CF/SA...

FOGGY this morning. About 200' visibility at first, but clearing up now. Saw the pair from Nova Scotia that won Palm Beach, got a 25th Anniversary Trans Am, all white, street car.

Baro was 30.04 last night... That's all I cared about!

Time to tinker I guess...

If anyone runs across Jim Morrison(Q/R and S/R) and Bill Clarke(H/R) could they please let them know that all their friends and fans from Nova Scotia are pulling for them this weekend. We are some proud of their start to the year in Palm Beach and hope they keep it going!!!! Good luck to everyone!!!!

P.S. 15 inches of snow on the ground here in Nova Scotia!!

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

The classroom portion of Scotty's school has been going on all morning, among the attendees are past Immokalee winners Mark Nowicki (who also won Palm Beach last week), Randy Larson (H/R), and David Hunt... And it's the second time through the school for Mark and Randy... Rut-Row.

Immokalee is part of a small airport, set up on one leased runway. Crop dusters have been flying in and out steadily from the other runways. The track is actually set up to be temporary/removable (which a hurricane did for them a few years ago). Everything is powered by two giant diesel generators. The tower is made up of two stacked shipping containers, there's linked k-rail lining the very wide and very long track, then there's a little go-kart course off the end of the track. As usual, Ralph Hester gave everyone tickets to attend a big blowout party tomorrow night featuring Gee's Bar-B-Q. There's a big casino and restaurant on the outskirts of the small town, for the gamblers.

It's definielty a great little facility. Sometimes it is apparent that a track is a "great place to race" based on attitude not equipment.
You can't be treated better and the racing will be superb.

Scotty is going to get everyone so educated it will be "hard to lose"!!!

Enjoy, wind chill in Iowa was -21 yesterday, It is a balmy 14 degrees right now but 30" of snow on the ground SUCKS!

I can see why, that rig has as many wheels as a locomotive!

I have never seen three axles in the back of a coach like that, but I don't get out much.

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

Sorry for little reporting today, turned out to be a busier "off" day than expected. Changed the oil and spark plugs this morning, no biggie, help Randy Larson get unloaded and swap tires, take some video and pics of Scotty's school... Started test n'tune at 5pm. I run Myron, .024 to his .000 off the trailer, but I told him he lost since he crossed the starting line on the burnout. :) -.003 red second hit, then decide I'm going to try to adjust the right rear brake, as its been dragging. Took forever just to get the hub off the brakes were so tight. Adjust a ton and... Nothing! Turns out the wheel cylinder is frozen up. Eventually got a ride to town with Myron, and the Autozone had 2 in stock! With some adult supervision from Chip and John Boyer, I got it changed out, and Boyer provided the big heavy foot to help bleed the brakes. Still managed to get in three more test runs, Might've picked up a few, but not as much as I'd expect. I was happy with the last run and called it a night... All of which meant I missed Connie's cookin'. ;-(

Micheal, what do you mean by "k-rail"? I haven't heard that term before.

Bill Clarke is the Nova Scotia racer with the white 25th Anniversary Trans Am street car; a twin to his race car. If you run into either him or Jim Morrison say Hi for me.

That's those temporary concrete barriers that road crews use.

Car count was looking lean yesterday, but a bunch came in overnight, including severl that were not at Palm Beach. Foggy again this morning, so we're starting a little later to allow for visibility. (Start when the tower can see the tech trailer on top end). ;). Speaking of... Hot Rod just got the call!

I thought those were called "Jersey Barriers"?

Good luck Michael. Thanks for the reports

Hot and humid, slow despite a wicked cross tailwind. 79.8 deg, 67%, 29.90, 2078'DA.

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

22 cars first shot, 23 this time I believe. Ortiz missed the first run as he was busy preparing ribs and selling labrador puppies. (You can't make this stuff up!). Mike Pearson's had his super stocker jacked up in the front, working on something.

Q2 - 85.0deg, 47%, 29.87, 2303' DA

Oh Boy......7 super stockers in first rd. of qualifying. Now THATS a S/S race.....LOL. Stock isnt much better but I see some did travel a long ways unless they are snow birds and have been here all winter.

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

What a shame!....it's like a cancer....the only thing different is that you can make this like new again with just a little effort. Myself to blame as well, but I'm working to get there. I'm not walking around a car that's ready to go....I can tell you that. It's going to be interesting next week to see how many cars show up for Bradenton that live in Florida. I'm just glad I don't have all my eggs in the Stock and Super/Stock basket with my current project. Hats of to the racers, IHRA management and officials that forge ahead and keep it alive....what a shame!

It is what it is!!!!!!!!!!....... I hope NHRA don't lose their spell that they have under some ( most ) of their racers........Then there won't be NOWHERE to race anymore........SAD , sad , sad........ I GIVE UP trying to help have another alternative for racers.. I can truly say i have tried......Guess i will get out the ole stocker and support when i can......

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

Several faces new to IHRA, between this weekend and last. Thanks for coming out! Ortiz has ribs on the grill, and I may have time for the cooks today. .016 and 2 above first round... No good. Carnero's .005 and 1 above. People love the little car... Unfortunately! Bracket race tonight, and the track's BBQ shindig that Ralph Hester always puts on for us.

Schooled By Scotty students sweep S/SS... David Hunt knocks the tree over on his mentor, beating Scotty on the strength of a .003 light, backing up his 2009 Super Stock win here at Immokalee. Mark Nowicki opens the season 2-0 in Super Stock, Bertozzi goes red.

Into the Gamblers now. Sun's down and so is the wind, for the most part.

Michael Beard 02-06-2011 12:08 AM

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

David Hunt (D/SA Mustang) doubles up, winning the No-Box Gamblers, too!

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

Pearson's issue yesterday turned out to be a PITA, but not catastrophic by any means. Leaking block drain and freeze plug, but he's all fixed up now. A little class-jockeying going on in SS, given the short field.

Q1 - 69.1 deg (overcast), 84%, 29.97 and falling, 1230'DA. Wind is much lighter, but has turned cross-head.

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

In the racer who bypassed the scales defense I can totally understand how it's possible there. The ET shack is at the stripe and the scales are at the turn off so unless their is an official at the end directing the cars it's very possible in the heat of the moment to drive right bye. I feel terrible when something like that happens for someone. I don't know the circumstances just guessing?

Jim Woods 02-06-2011 09:26 PM

Re: Live in Immokalee....Michael are you there?

Daran, I was the official down there. Jeff just got mixed up a little. Everyone was hiped up, He understood what happened and all was cool.

No reflection on the guy who missed the scales, but I make a point of driving the property on my moped when I race at a new track.Especially the shutdown area. You get a good idea of where everything is. Raced at Norwalk last year for the first time and while riding around there it was a bit confusing where the fuel check trailer was.Had no problem but I could see someone missing it,since cars were pitted all around the trailer.Too bad he was tossed.
