Like Biggg always says,"You can't put a price on a good time".I think you can't put a price on any Wally you're presented with. The few I have are staying with me to the bitter end.
My daughters have already put claims in on them.

IHRA Iron Man on Ebay

This particular auction is for an IHRA Iron Man. I guess that just goes to show how much sentimental value Dan places on an IHRA Iron Man. :)

It looks like most of his other auctions for NHRA Wallys are either from class or divisional wins.

Re: NHRA Wally on Ebay

If you watch that item to the end of the auction you might be surprised at what it may sell for. I purchased an NHRA class winner Wally on Ebay 2 years ago and ended up paying around $400 for it. At that time someone was selling several of them and the first one I bid on I went to $250 and didn't get it.

My reason for buying it was for a memorial for my friend and fellow S/ST racer Reuben (Buffy) Shiflett who passed away back in 2009. Being in the business of making and selling grave stones, I puchased a granite container for his ashes to be placed in, replaced the metal plate on the front of the Wally with a plate I got from a trophy shop with his name, competition # and class designation. I mounted it to the top of the granite box and his wife has it sitting on the mantle at home.

Hey Dan Moore, you're #1. :D

RIP Mark Graham

If you read Dan's last article he said things are tough, he was even driving a snow plow so I can understand why he is selling stuff. 2011 will be a tough year for everyone with the gas prices headed to god knows where.

He may as well sell them. Really, what are they good for? Can't buy parts with them.
Ditto ironmen.

Im with you Ed!, for guys like us, reaching a final is tough, winning one is the pinnacle. Mine are staying with me to the end as well.

Folk's, Most to all of my trophies I won back in the 60's before money was a prize to be won. Some from NHRA and (the defunk) AHRA, with a few independant tracks throwed in. I have donated some to charity, they change the car part for something else, but almost every one is a memory that I have. There is just no way I would sell, as I worked to darn hard to earn them. Just my .02cents worth.

When ya have 70 some odd national win trophys, the little ones just get in the way. Dan is a business man, to him it's just credits and debits. He treats this addiction a little different than most of us.

Re: NHRA Wally on Ebay

One of my most prized trophies is the one I received for winning class at Las Vegas in 2007. And no, it wasn't a single either. :) Has there ever been a single for the F/SA or G/SA Wally? It's the only time I've ever won class in the Chevelle.

I usually don't care who I run in class because I know I'm not going to win the trophy anyway, but there were only three of us in G/SA at that race. So I thought if I could get the single first round I could see what the winner runs and decide if I have a chance or not. The other two racers come up to me and ask how we should decide who gets the single. Of course, I ask if we can flip coins for it. They agree and I win the flip.

After seeing what the winner in front of me ran, I decided that I might be able to run with him so I go back to the pits and start putting the Whale on kill. As I'm icing the manifold in the back of the lanes Steve Wann, my final round opponent, comes up to me in disbelief and asks "What are you doing icing it down? You never hop it up for class!" Steve was running his Super Stock car in Super Gas and they ran right before us so I was hoping I might be able to catch him off guard a little.

Anyway, I got him off the line .026 to .033 and outran him 11.636 to 11.650. To be fair to Steve though, he had just recently purchased the car and hadn't yet turned it into the rocket ship that it is today. Also, I think Steve might have taken a little ribbing from his friends for losing to the Great White Whale. :)

The Class Winner Wally`s have been on and off of eBay for years. They`ll typically go for over $250 and more. Times are tough, and you do what you gotta do. I sold one of mine a year and a half ago to a friend for $200. If the economy stays crappy,I`ve got 10 more I`m willing to let go of as well(six I`m not willing to part with). If you want `em back, you can always get replacements from the trophey company that manufactures them.

SOOOO ooo! Can we say that singles in Class don't mean anything but a participant award ???????????
I have a few of those trophies as well, (stupid dust collectors) but I would never get rid of the ones I earned with a bunch of rounds to win, they're special to me and will never be replaced!!

2011 is gonna be a year of racing for us that will change every ones opinion of how things have gott'n so messed up, i.e AHFS, Contingency and Class Elims. Can't wait for the 2012 program!

Re: NHRA Wally on Ebay

With the way things are going a Wally cost a hell of a lot more to win than it did 20 years ago. Say he wins one in Pomona this year coming from N.Y. It should bring in about $5000.

Just wait until it gets close to the end. The ones I had bid on were around that price within 2 hours of the end.

Hey Jack, are you still looking for Cragar S/S wheels? I have a pair that my father got out of a unit at his storage facility and gave to me. I'll check on the size and try to get a picture of them. If you can use them we will just figure out how to get them to you and they're yours.

Re: NHRA Wally on Ebay

From what I understand, for some getting rid of the Class Win Wallys is quite profitable. Like 6K in one year for one racer! Not bad! For some of those racers out there with over 100 of `em could make and easy 10K in a year and not put a dent in their collection!

I still have the ones my Dad and I won. Don't mean anything to anyone else I don't suppose but always brings me back to when dad and I were having the best times of our lives!! Priceless to me...

I sold some about 7 years ago. Broke my heart to do it but when you are building a comp car, it's either have some nice shelf ornaments or keep racing. I chose to keep racing.

Dan Fletcher has been seen working the bugs out of his Nostalgia Class 57 Chev racer. He's getting ready for next year NHRA event just around his place at Empire Raceway. The only one worth keeping are probably his U.S. National wins. Most of us would be happy to have one.lol But having as many as Dan has, I would also put them for sale, instead of leaving it for the family to dispose of them, when Dan leaves us for the great dragstrip in the sky.lol The great Jean Beliveau sold all his trophies and rings so that his family wouldn't have to deal with all the trouble that comes with disposing of them.
