Live from Las Vegas

We are here in beautiful and sunny Las Vegas for the National Open, T-n-T, bracket race, etc etc....

Current air is pretty good for here from what I am told. 51 degrees, 26% humidity, 28.16 barometer, 1620 feet.

Cars are really starting to come into the pits, we don't start until 11 am. I will try to take some pictures and get as much info as I can to you.

Re: Live from Las Vegas

They called Alcohol cars and Pro mods - and no one is moving, so I guess not many here. I don't see any cars in staging. We are supposed to start in 50 mins. Air Force is busy practicing - very very cool! Our tax dollars at work, but an awesome show for us here.

That is one of the fun things about the track, the daily Air Force display. Just awesome.

There's a combination you don't see every day! I'd be paying a lot more attention to the barometer than the DA.

Yeah, I thought it was worth noting as well.....we will see what it is when we go up. Had to change starters already - welcome back to racing! ;)

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Ok, we got two runs in, and though there are a fair number of cars here, the track has had a lot of quiet time due to no one going down. Infact, someone from the track just came by our pits to tell us we can take more than three runs if we want to. We weren't supposed to get more than three. Cars are going down, but not consistently. Don Kennedy had some trouble in the waterbox, not sure what's up with that but hopefully he figures it out.

I am trying to post our videos on youtube but it's taking a very long time today for some reason. If I can get some up I will post a link. I am not sure if live video is up from here or not, Jeff Foster didn't know if they would be here. Glad 1320 is working.

Jack, It's very cold at home, quite happy to be here! Bob, I will you a jackpot or two to hit next week. Wish the PS testing was this weekend, I was bummed when I found out it was going to be next week. Oh well....

Beth Denysenko 02-11-2011 10:25 PM

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Ok, we are back to the room. We got a total of 6 runs today! Wow!

Div. 7 was especially friendly, helpful and just all around wonderful. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, even coming to our pits to invite us up to make as many runs as we wanted.

Not as many people participating in the tnt as I would expect, especially considering there were quite a few rigs pitted, lots of quiet time on the track. But folks like Mark Faul were there and didn't run it. I think we counted about 18-20 stock and superstockers there, but a lot of people were pulling in as we were leaving.

I put a couple of the runs on youtube. Here's a link to one. Nothing exceptional, but we were happy!.

Hope to see more of our West Coast friends here tomorrow!

Beth,

Are you running one of the cars or is Alex driving both Mustangs?

Enjoy your time in Vegas.

Beth Denysenko 02-12-2011 12:45 AM

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Actually, none of the above!

Alex is driving Earl & Kay Murakami's 69 Cobra Jet Mustang. This is the third year he has driven it here and for the Winters.

You can see it in the youtube video. :D

I am not driving, just crewing here.

Thanks, Danny, for the good wishes!

Will qualifying and results be posted anywhere?

Beth Denysenko 02-12-2011 01:35 PM

Re: Live from Las Vegas

I don't know if qualifying will be up - there is a hand written schedule up for us as of now....take of that what you will.

I will try to give as much info as I can get. We decided to sleep in a bit today and intentionally missed first round. Air is much better today (bp) than yesterday. A lot of new cars here today. I will take pics in staging during qualifying.

Re: Live from Las Vegas

I just love the sound of a race prepped 428. Listening to it brought tears to my eyes, it's been way too long since I raced.

That will be cured soon.

Best of luck at the Winters.

Here is a picture of the qualifying sheet from round 2. We just ran a third TT.

You will need to click the bar above the image to read it. :)

I don't know about you, but given how much we spend training pilots and buying planes, I want them to maintain their skills-and if we get a good show besides, so much the better.

Beth Denysenko 02-12-2011 03:50 PM

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Also, I took quite a few pictures and I post them as I have time. We are running both the bracket race and the combo so we are hot lapping a bit. The weather is beautiful today. I miss the air force's free for the taxpayers show today. :(

Oh, I agree! I wasn't complaining! I heard on the local news apparently one of the jets had engine trouble yesterday and dropped two "bombs" right near the track here on it's way to the emergency landing. The LVMS Manager heard it and saw the smoke. Practice makes perfect! (I was THIS close to going to the Air Force Academy out of high school, I think those pilots are uber cool and what they do even cooler!!!!)

No drag pacs or new mustangs and top 5 are super stocks. Two more cars have hit the trigger. The ahfa gods could be busy this year. Tom

Beth,

I didn't think you were complaining-and I can remember traveling in Nevada with my folks in their motor home in 1981-the Blue Angels came flying down the highway in formation-uber cool is the right term fr what they were doing. Good luck and have fun-are you guys going on to Phoenix and Pomona too?

No Phoenix for us - have to go back to real life for a week, but then back out for Pomona! :D

I have no way to fax it, Joe. I will take your number to the tower with me and see if they will do it. From me, pictures of the sheets will have to do. They just called us for TT#4, more info to come!

The one time I raced in Vegas, the "air show" seemed like the best part! Planes in the air I`d only seen on TV. Was kind of funny watching them going around the blimp that was filming the races!

Beth Denysenko 02-12-2011 04:55 PM

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Joe, I gave your number to the folks in the tower and they said they would do it no problem. Infact, the gentleman I gave it to was surprised you didn't ask him on his facebook page. ? Not sure who it was, I didn't have time to stay and ask, Alex was going up.

Barometer is dropping and wind is picking up. So we are slowing down. It's 1 pm and we have gotten lots of runs and still haven't even started the bracket race! Everyone has been so nice to talk with here too. What a great weekend!!!!

I'm going to work on putting up some pics right now....

Only the instant HP hit is in effect at national opens.

From the AHFS:

"Final qualifying, class eliminations, and elimination runs of 1.00 seconds or more, under the index, at NHRA National and LODRS events will trigger an automatic review."

"Runs of 1.200 or more under the index will be reviewed and adjusted Tuesday following the event. Runs at all NHRA events, including those at altitude factored race tracks, are included in the 1.200-second-or-more-under analysis."

Soon or later I learn all the new rules and then they will chage them again. The cars in div 2 hit the trigger right? Tom

Toby Lang 02-12-2011 05:29 PM

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Yes, Mr. Wahl has one trigger on his combo so far.

Looks like the C/SA heads-up race might get a couple of triggers also if they both stay green.

Re: Live from Las Vegas

I am actually FINALLY getting the pictures loaded to my webshots account as we speak.

They are letting anyone run time only if they don' mind waiting to get fit in in between bracket race rounds. Very nice!

Let's see, Keri Angeles went home early. Not sure if they planned to or not, but I believe I saw her getting towed back at one point, but she made a lap or two since then. Regardless, she is gone for now. And that bums me out - not many ladies here! Unless you get to count Maureen Ely as two ladies since she is on the sheet twice for some reason (#20 & #23, see below).

Abe Lowen set a record today, he's not exactly sure what the final record ET will be after the factor is adjusted, but he knows it's at least a tenth lower. Good job!

http://moneymakerracing.net/TOC2010/aberecord.JPG

I will post a link to the pics as soon as they are done, shortly I hope. :D

Jim Wahl's run will get reviewed but the "one time fast run" provision should prevent a hit on the combo, not arguing with you Toby, just reacting to the word "trigger". Just a provocative word I guess....LOL

Looks like Bradenton has mineshaft conditions....we need you, Beth, or somebody there reporting!

Add to the fact that they put their @sses on the line so we can sit at home and do what we love to do, let them train so when they are defending our country they are safe and return home to their families!!!
