This is a good thing. So possibly the director change is for the good, even if he doesn't come over and personally greet everyone.

So they schedule it on top of Richmond Pro-Am and TOC Qualifier. No, thanks. I can run two races in one weekend at Richmond, with national event contingency on the Sunday race. And I won't have to lock my stuff up like with the AutoFair crowd zMAX will have.

Not only that, they scheduled it on top of the Division 3 race at Bowling Green, where everyone goes to tune up for Indy. Bowling Green hosts as many as 600 cars, from Divisions 1, 2, and 3, among others for that weekend, as well as having a Monday test session.

I love the idea of having a Division 2 Lucas race at Charlotte, I hope the scheduling doesn't cause it to be a flop. I'm sure we'll be at Bowling Green, as much as I'd like to run a Lucas race at Charlotte. If they hadn't scheduled them on top of one another, we might have been able to support both.

You can bet everyone who is going to Indy will be at Bowling Green, as well as a lot of others, slashing the number of cars Charlotte will have to draw from.

Maybe they can reschedule it. I don't think it was done vendictively.

Div. 1 Rising Sun was also on that date in the pass years but will now run Cecil a week before that date. So instead of running Div 1,3 and 5 , they will run 2,3 and 5

Art, I don't think it was either.

I think they're wanting to try it, and since they already have something else going on that weekend, it doesn't cost them as much to try it that weekend. Unfortunately, they run a serious risk of getting a low car count that they might not have gotten otherwise. I think if they see a low car count, they'll dismiss the whole thing as a waste of time, effort, and money.

We're hungry for more races in Division 2, and we'd like to support a race at Charlotte.

That I'll agree with. I'd love to race there, but scheduling needs to be done better.

If only you people knew how hard Rich worked to make this date happen. (sigh)

I'm fully aware the majority of you are gonna whine, gripe and complain no matter WHAT happens but, for the few of you who care, it wouldn't kill you to send an e-note of thanks or appreciation to your Divsion II Director.

Re: Division 2 adds Charlotte

Kudo's to the new director...so far as I'm concerned he has already made a positive impact. I think this may work out well for Zmax since they have other events going on to help bring in revenue. Also, I think you will see some folks that don't normally race NHRA from the area hit this event. So, they may lose a few cars to Bowling Green but they may also make up a few that can test for Indy closer to home and bring in the locals that wouldn't go to Bowling Green anyway. I will do everything I can to make it!

Re: Division 2 adds Charlotte

For most of us, the concern is whether or not the event is successful enough to be repeated. It will do us no good at all if the event ends up with a low car count and they decide it doesn't pay to hold the event again.

So yeah, you'll have to excuse us if the date bothers us, since it's scheduled directly against an extremely popular event that many of us attend every year. And you'll have to excuse us for being disappointed that the race we've been hoping for is the same weekend as a race that's only 90 miles from us.

I can tell you it was the only date option available. Rich knew the conflicts; he chose to schedule the event in hope racers would not wait to see if the inaugural race failed before deciding they wouldn't attend the following year. LMAO!

This is great news for DIV 2, with all the crying on here about all the races being in Florida this is what everyone wanted. ZMAX is a great track and I'll be coming down to support the division on this new direction of change. Hats off to the new director!!! Racing at ZMAX and Then the US Nationals, it doesn't get any better than this!

Also keep in mind that with the AutoFair right across the street you're going to see a ton of fans in the seats that more than likely would not drive up there just for the race. I think it'll be good for the facility to have more than 2 races a year at the track.

I'm really glad you brought this up because not many folks even noticed this aspect of the race. This was one of your Division Director's main objectives; he realized the potential benefits of the AutoFair crowd to both ZMax and NHRA Sportsman racing. Rich really struggled to mesh the two event in hopes of attracting new fans to benefit not just the track but sportsman racers. The possibility of presenting NHRA Divisional racing to an entirely new group of spectators was a REALLY big deal to Rich.

It would be my guess that most on this site don't know the magnitude of that event at the speedway. That show is a vendor's show, car show, swap meet and you are right the amount of coverage that can be gained by having this race at the same time as the event at the speedway will be tremendous. I for one have been waiting since the track opened for this type of event. We have raced there at several diffent events and have always been treated well and really enjoy racing there. We will be there and hope that everyone considers the possiblities here.

How do you get these people to leave the swap meet and go to the track. The auto fair is HUGE. The people that go to Autofair will spend all day there. THe last thing on their mind will be going to the dragstrip.

I'm glad they are doing it. I just wish it was a different date.

That date will make this a "one and done" deal. Bruton will not lose $$$. Too bad indeed. IHRA crossovers are the only real chance to make it a go.

chris3racing 02-14-2011 10:57 AM

Re: Division 2 adds Charlotte

Chip you are right, this event is a huge event. In the past there has been something going on at all parts of this complex, except the dragstrip. I believe that spectators will take in the event. Being part of the overall show at Lowes Motorspeedway, the dirt track, with the outlaw cars on Saturday night, this will be just another thing for people to do. You have obviously been there before and know that there are all types of people with all type of car interest. When the expenses and the take-in money for every segment of the event are put together Bruton Smith will not be losing money.

Would the racers in North Carolina rather go to another state and spend their money than to support one of the nicest tracks in the United State, which is right here in your own division and the Division Director who is trying to do things right.

Would this be the same new director that added the index classes and took away runs for Stock superstock and comp?

For most people that go to the auto fair It will take you all day to walk the grounds to see everthing. When they leave from there the Drag race for that day will be over with.
I don't see that many people taking in both.
Because it cost to get in the Auto Fair it is Not Free.

Clutch,
Bet it don't. With the double at Richmond and the BG race I'll bet 250 cars or less.
I'll also bet Rockingham and Piedmont will push 300. The rest will go 250+

Re: Division 2 adds Charlotte

Already said I'd love to race there, given the proper scheduling. Sorry, but with the conflict, Richmond makes much more sense for VA/NC racers, as does Bowling Green for the TN/KY racers.
