Off Subject: National Dragster

Nothing to do with Stock/Superstock but I will not be renewing my subscription to National Dragster.
Not to happy with the direction( mostly professional content) of the magazine.
I can get all the info I need right here and on dragrace.central so why waste the money.

One of the reasons I will renew this year is in hopes of being on the list when the IRS is sending things out.
I did get my renew soon notice to day for a membership that is due in May. They need our money now for lawyer fees probably.

On that subject, answer me this. When you renew your membership, the ND is included. Can you renew membership without the ND for less money?

Nope!

Those were my thoughts it goes in the trash the same day it arrives. I could care less about the pro's and the content inside is equal to a grade school publication, it's really gone downhill over the years at one time it was our newspaper and how we got our news but now with the Internet it's outdated

And it only shows up in the mail about every other week anyway.

Does anyone know if you have to be a member to run the Summit
(bracket) Series?

You do not need to be a member to run SEDA races.

You do not need to be a member to run the Summit Series, but you do need to be a member to attend the Summit Series finals

Re: Off Subject: National Dragster

You can be a associate member under a full member and you do not receive the dragster. My wife has done this for years. You still get every thing else.

I got my renewal notice last friday, It went straight into the trash can.

Are there any other publications that cover sportsman, like the old Super Stock magazine, or anything?
Is Drag Illustrated worth the subscription?

Unless I`m mistaken, to race at a LODRS or NHRA National event, you need to be a current member of NHRA, correct? I know that I have had my NHRA membership card and permanent number card checked out several during Tech. So, doesn`t no National Dragster=no NHRA membership, which =`s no National, Divisional, or National Open racing?

I just renewed my number & NHRA membership, and being that I live 1/2 hour North of the US/Canada border, I get the "honor" of paying an extra $36.00 a year to be a member.

The only things I look forward to anymore in ND are columns by Evan Smith and David Reher. And the occasional Featured Flyer....

I have been a member since 1969, mostly for ND and the rule book. ND has become...? and no rule book!, I compete a little at some NHRA tracks, so I will continue mostly for the extra insurance.

Good Luck in ever collecting any of that extra insurance.
It is not going to pay anything.
Been there and done that. It is a joke just like what you pay for when you enter the National Event.
The National Event Insurance is just letting the Sportsman pay the Entire Events Insurance Bill. Yes you cover the spectators when you pay that enhancement.
The death at Phoenix in 2010 of a spectator is why the enhancement with more of an insurance bill came about this year.
We just keep getting screwed and keep coming back. Me included but I don't like it.
Yes you do have to be a member to Compete at the NHRA events.
My 2 Cents

Used to stop everything to read cover to cover and even saved them....old ones are better reading material even today. I just throw them on a pile; I looked and I haven't read any since November.....if it ain't got Reher column back page...in the can it goes

I know it exists to support NHRA, but the lengths it goes to "spin" is nauseating...to paraphrase Mike Singletary: "can't read it, can't stand it....just can't do it"

Maybe to help NHRA's bottom line, they could offer a "delete" option with needed membership card to race

Here is something positive to do with the National Dragster magazine. Send them to one of our troops over seas. I send them 4 at time with the monthly Hot Rod magazine to my deployed son.

Trust me, they like 'em! Throw in some fishing magazines to, and you will be a hero!

Hey Rory,
If you use a U.S mailing address you don't have to pay the extra dough, Some of our fellow racers use a post office box this side if the border.
I was told last year that I didn't need a membership to race at the national opens but that might just be for the bracket racers. We'll see if they let me into stock without a membership this year.

How many times do we have to see Force or any member of his family. This year will be a N.D. free year until more sportsman content appears. CR

He has to go for a min of 14 months this time. He will be getting dragsters as they come in. Guys the car guys over there love them even if they are a month or two late getting there. For you guys interested there is almost always a church looking for stuff to send please dont throw them away there are guys over there who would love to have them and any other mags you dont need.

There is a local ministry here who collects things for the troops in Afghanistan. I save my Dragsters and they love them. Don't throw them away!!

That's the best idea I've seen on this forum..... Sending them to our troups.... WOW... Wish I had thought of that... I've just been putting them in the re-cycle bin.... Now I'm sad about that... But will send them all from now on.... Thanks for sharing the idea......

I stopped my subscription of National Dragster at least 10 years ago, like a friend of mine says, Its just bird cage liner. You can get more information on websites and from other racers. Half the time, I didnt recieve it, or when it finally showed up it would be two weeks later or shredded.

I have only recieved two this year.

Curt Rees 02-24-2011 05:19 PM

Re: Off Subject: National Dragster

You can not send them to "Any Soldier" as before. I suggest getting a troop's name from a relative or friend and send them to that troop.

As for my son, he is a veteran of the Iraq war and was deployed to Afghanistan in May of 2010. He, unfortunately, was medivaced to the States in November, a result of a mini stroke. He is presently under medical evaulation and is not sure if he will be allowed to stay in the military or not. Physicaly, with medication, he is feeling fine. Being in really good physical condition probably saved his life.

Try this
Call the local recruitting office and tell them you want to donate items to be sent to our troops overseas. Ask them if they know of any groups that are making up care packages to be sent to our troops.

If you go on Marine parents, Navy Parents, Army parents, Air force parents ect ect.. they have some listed there too but I am not exactly sure how to find it on thier sites. They also have lists of what you can and cannot send if anybody is thinking about donating stuff to be sent over. If you want PM me your zip code and I can have my wife look for a place local to your area.
