Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
I'm looking for a vintage racing wheel that I used to own, but never knew the name of them. I can only describe them as I don't have any pics of them. If anyone has a name or an idea in regards to what I'm talking about please help.
Description: The outer wheel was chrome steel and the centers were magnesium I think with oval slots in them. The oval slot insides were black. Some I have asked in the past told me they were Chrysler or Ford racing rims. I know that isn't much info, but any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks Manny |

Re: Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
Thanks everyone. Those are the wheels. Now I just need to find the 15x4s I gave away for nothing back in the early 90's. Who knew the nostalgia craz would take off.

Re: Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
Most people if they ran these Motor Wheel Spyders on the rear ran the Flys on the front. They were a five spoke and very light.

Back in the days I was told that Fly's did not like much lateral stress.

Re: Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
Eddie Schartman had a set on his 1970 Boss 429 Cougar Pro Stocker - very pretty wheel!

Re: Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
Make sure if you get the "flys" that either you buy the lug nuts with them as they are a .750 shank diameter or;
1) you have the wheels bushed to the standard lug shank size. 2) talk to Travis at Mark Williams who can make you a set of big .750 studs (for the rears) that will work with these wheels. Flys like neither lateral stress or potholes. Also I would avoid the magnesium fronts without the red epoxy in the centre. Not as strong. |
Re: Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
I have a set of Fly's that we are getting ready to sell - Magnesium 3.5" fronts (with red foam) and 15X8 rears. With lug nuts and center caps - full blown Nostalgia - they still have 30yr old M&H's on the rears and they hold air! If any is in the market met me know. (GM bolt pattern). I need to pull them out and measure backspacing on rears and get pictures. Only bad is that the rears have screws in the bead.

Re: Looking for Vintage Racing Wheel
I went to the AKH website and they have some great stuff. Being an old Mopar guy I was happy to see vintage Keystone wheels and caps which are a very rare find.
