Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Just heard the police were questioning the driver of a D/SA Mustang about owership and have been checking vehicle ID #'s on race car and tow vehicle. Believe this is the same car that the late Rob Torren and his Son raced a couple of years ago. I believe there was a question about ownership a week or so ago? Must be 50 or 60 "spectators" checking things out.
Only in NHRA!! |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
I witnessed an investigation / confiscation at the old ahra world finals in spokane, wash. one year (i think it '79 or '80)... lots of cussing, swearing and bloody noses... It was not a good sight!!
all the more reason to get a legitimate title with that race car purchase and not rely on a bill of sale. I think new car builders generally supply some sort of mso documents with their builds if there is no vin. / registration, Correct? |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
They took the race car, probably his Toyota Driver also and are now looking hard at his M/H and trailer. Hunt is his last name anybody know him?

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
It appears to be.
At Immokalee, FL (IHRA) he beat Scotty Richardson in Bertozzi's car in the day one Stock final. I got the impression that he was a hired driver but don't recall who he was hired by. |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Rig just left, so..............
FBI, police, entertainment tonight, MSNBC all have came and gone |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Was the rig confiscated as well or did the owner just leave the track?
|
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
we seen the rig leave, was not watching who was driving, police car was sitting back in the spot the rig was parked, guess we watch the news at 11
Hell i was in hiding thought Lorie was having papers severed to me, lol. |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
A week or two ago I saw an ad stating that the ownership of a certain race car was in question. The pic was of a 67 or 8 Mustang, appeared to be a notchback. I believe it was black and white. The ad seemed vague and I dismissed it. I searched racingjunk.com and some others, but cannot find it again.
Does that sound like the car? |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
I am pitted very close to him, what a day! It is the white with black roof D/SA Mustang, the real owner got it back. He was here with his lawyer and alot of police. The police also took his daily driver some rare Nissan, right hand drive. He (Hunt) was asked to leave, I saw him driving the motorhome trailer attached of the grounds, bet he didn't get far before they stopped him.

Will be interesting to find out the whole story

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
The rare Nissan is most likely a Skyline. Which those cars cand have titling problems these days on their own due to an issue with the company that was importing them and doing the federalization/making legal safety wise etc for america. Even if they were legit when they bought them. One of my best friends has one of the few legal Skylines in America here in Ohio.

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Even though this is probably a case of the sale of a racecar deal gone bad, it does bring up questions of ownership of racecars.
So the questions of the day become...When you bought your racecar, did you get a title and did you file it with your state authorities? Should you have? How would you prove it is your racecar? Could a racecar with no serial number be questioned by authorities? |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Probably a broken partnership or unpaid balance.

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
I sold a roller '67 Barracuda around 1980 with title. Buyer paid, came to my apartment complex to pick it up and it was gone. Police report filed and I looked like the schmuck. A couple years go by and I'm out with friends late at night, go around a corner and there was the Barracuda. I called the legit owner at 1:00 a.m., he showed up with the Sheriff at sunrise and the guy that had possession of the Barracuda (appears he bought it from the thief), lost his investment which by now included many upgrades.
Lesson learned: you buy a shell and it's hot and you ad your hemi and everything else, if somebody has a police report and legit title proving ownership, your SOL and the sheriff takes it all away and hands the keys off to the legit owner! I'll never own a car without legit / legal documents verified by MVD! And I see ClassRacer has a car for sale and it would appear there could be an issue to address before money is exchanged. :( |
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Jeff, You can get your motor and trans back if you can show you put it in the car in question, happened to me in 69 with a 67 camaro body. I took proof to the NJ state police and I was alowed to remove the engine and trans right in the impound yard.

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
That's a fight I'd rather not fight! Bottom line, you take your chances without a title!

Mike,
Thank you. I thought I was going crazy. I knew I had read it and noted the "poster" and the few posts' they had, I realized rj doesn't do that. I thought it an odd post on this site. I have the title for my car, and still have the plates and current stickers. Illinois will stick it to you for back stickers if you let it lapse. |

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Unfortunately this is a scenario that is going to happen often in the coming year. I was purchasing a race car from a gentleman in Virginia and ran in some problems when he couldn't come up with the proper DOT ownerships after I had made sure he had them before showing up but unfortunately all he had were the bill of sale from the previous owner. He told me he never needed them after all these years racing the car. Anyways the car was found to have been stolen in Tennessee(where the owner was happy to get it back since he didn't have insurance when his corvette was stolen in 72. The FBI has a program they call Automated Vehicle Identification(AVI) which can go back to 1956. If you think the car your purchasing is stolen or has been modified with different automobile get in touch with your local FBI office for help., They've discovered many restored antiques dealers also caught up in this. The information that I've received from the FBI is that it is illegal to transport through any state, vehicle that has a VIN number without it's ownership. CR

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
The ownership is not the only thing that is questionable about that car. The FBI should tear it down while they're at it.
|
Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
Vic your correct. Original owner of the race car was Shawn Alex from Ohio, he sold the car to the Torrens. Its been listed on Ebay and RJ.com for quite a while, several people including myself tried to buy it, never got a reply from who ever posted the ads.

Re: Police Drama at Gators...wtf
One thing you can count on. The more Federal Employees they hire to fill unneeded Federal positions the more they will all need to come up with ideas to trample our freedoms under the name of something they feel is an injustice.
Race car titles, overlength motorhomes and trailers, CDL for hauling our hobbies. They must have watched NHRA, the Feds are just "enhancing" our fun with more and more regulations. Wait until the EPS gets through with us at tech....."WHAT! you are using "leaded gasoline"...that has to stop, you are ruining the enviroment!", can't you just see the TV News talking about all that pollution we are causing....they might even give is credit for the next earthquake with those Fords hitting the start line so hard!! Race while you can..............the Fun Police are coming!!!! Jok |

On page 1764 of the new Affordable HealthCare (Obamacare) law says you will have to prove you have health insurance to be able to participate in a motorized competitive sport starting in 2014.
