Gators pre final "entertainment"

They're down t all the finals,so what do they do?Instead of running the sportsman finals
they drag out Daryll Gwynn and Garlits for an electric fuel car race. Then a nostalgia door slamer show, then a nostalgia fuel car "cackle fest".
There's enough pressure going into a final without having to sit around another hour while they roll out this bull$hit.

All they need now is a monster truck racing a jet truck or the Coolbus

Geez, Ed, are things that slow up there in Noo Joisey? :) Ever think that maybe all the final round contestants weren't ready yet? It's not like they're pressed for time or anything like they are at Pomona.

Maybe they could do it like they used to. Hot lap three or four rounds of sportsman in between the semi and final round of the pro's.

What else can we expect in modern day America? The fans must be "entertained",good racing doesn't seem to work to the "sports entertainment" wizards controlling motor sports today.

And you NHRA purists laugh at IHRA.
Maybe NHRA is trying to steal the circus too.

Toby, that would suit me fine.Beats sitting there with your thumb up your butt.Realistically
how long do you need to cool the car down? And I think most of us know what we'll pick up if we had to hot lap it.
I think some of us have benn numbed up enough to just go along with the adjustment to the race schedules that they've come up with to satisfy, fans, sponsors, lawyers, sponsors
etc that we'll go with anything they throw at us.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Bubba is upset right now that he had to wait so long.

They have been doing things like this before the finals ever since I started going to national events. Nothing new here.

What other choice do we have but to except what they throw at us? There is nothing we can do about it. My goodness, I get so tired of coming on here and seeing alot of people complain about the NHRA/IHRA. I would love to be one of these guys waiting my turn to pick up a Wally. Congrats to all the winners and runner-ups.

Very well said strange 1 and Toby. Iam so tired of people on this forum findind the bad in nhra. Ed not like yourself I am here and they did nothing wrong they ran the semis then went to entertainment let all the finalist cool, charge, gas then they called them back. It was pretty cool seeing all the cars.

I guess it's like every other issue we deal with.I have my take on it and others don't.
BTW you do have another option. If you don't like the way they run the race you can just pass it up.This year between the bull$hit and my financial situation I'm sitting this year out.It isn't the end of the world.

He must've gotten an "enhancement" at home lol. Ed it's only a month until Atco, maybe smelling the rubber and VP burning will mellow you back out. I'd bet those guys were happy not to feel rushed and able to have time to get things ready.

Dave,I just call them like I see them. The circus atmosphere should be in the Midway/Sponsor area, not the racetrack, especially during eliminations.Maybe
at a Nascar race they should stop the race with one lap to go and have a
barbeque for all the old timers.Petty, and so forth.Have a burger a beer and then
finish the last lap.
Dave,I am kinder and gentler now.

Both Daryll and Don sacrificed their body and have devoted their lives to racing, I don't think an small tribute at their home event is to much to ask, and how doesn't like old fuelers? STFU

Time and a place for Tributes, but not before the finals. Do it on Saturday. I agree with Ed on this one.
Hot laps don't break parts either. In a situation like that I would rather Hot Lap.

sorry ed, usually i agree 100% with you, but in the realm of everything NHRA has done to screw up the entire sportsman program i really dont believe THIS is an isuue worth the effort to type about on here !!!

Scott, like I replyed to Mr Smallblochead, that's a nice thing to do.In my opinion they could have done it on Sunday before eliminations.

Re: Gators pre final "entertainment"

No matter when they do the tribute, the time they start the finals isn't going to change any.

Maybe you would rather have the fans sit there for a half an hour with nothing going on. Or better yet, maybe Sports Magic could shoot t-shirts into the crowd or see who can guzzle a can of Full Throttle the quickest.

I thought Ed F was referring to hot lapping sportsman cars instead of just downtime...getting a little fan exposure before they clear out....maybe I misread it?

Please people I'm sure that Ed can defend himself and doesn't need my help to come to his rescue but come on, we don't need to sit through all that pro bono publico(latin: for the public good) in the finals. Please do it right and do it first thing before eliminations or do it on Saturday. CR

That's pretty much it Randall.Last year at Maple Grove I guess Graham and company wanted to go home so they ran us continuously till the end.Didn't seem like anyone was agitated by that.

I'll second what Scott said!

Toby Lang 03-14-2011 04:43 PM

Re: Gators pre final "entertainment"

Didn't it rain at Maple Grove last year? And weren't the majority of sportsman eliminations run after the pro classes completed their finals? Of course they're going to run you continuously, what else do they have to run?

Ed's original post in this thread was him complaining about how they were down to all the finals and instead of running the sportsman finals, they're running an electric fuel car race. This is while Ed is listening to the race at home via the audiocast. We already have two posts by people who were THERE in the stands watching and they said they ENJOYED the entertainment. One of these posters is a sportsman racer himself.

I stated that no matter what they do with the down time in between the semi's and finals, the start time for the finals isn't going to change. They have been doing things like this before the finals for years and just now it's a problem?

I know if I had a heads-up race in the final (yes, it does happen sometimes.) I would like some time to get ready for it and not be told that I have to get up there right now or they are going to run the final without me.

This is it for me.
First off you all choose to have tunnel vision on what you read.I also posted about the endless procession of first hot rods, then gassers and then old fuel cars. They drove the fuelers onto and lined them up on the track. That took the most time. This was only my opinion. And I'm sticking to it.

Its all just another circus act. This should have been done on Saturday sometime.

Toby Lang 03-14-2011 05:24 PM

Re: Gators pre final "entertainment"

Sorry, Ed, yes you did post about the hot rods and the cackle fest.

I guess having a half hour of down time with nothing going on would be better.

Ed I feel sorry for your misery and I will pray for you. You must not be a very happy person with all your negativity. Do you realize that all you do is cry and complain? I dont mean this to be an attack on you but it really is sad to see all this. At the end of the day it is only racing. Did your life change one way or the other beacuse NHRA ran those cars? Do you think the winners handed back the money and trophies because of it?

No need to feel sorry for me.If you came to the track and hung out with the people I hang out with you would have a good time,in spite of the enhancements thrown at us.
A lot of my posts aren't negative at all.I'll admit just about all my negative posts are directed at the upper echelon of NHRA.I guess you fail to see the damage they've done to
sportsman racing since the passing of Wally. But then maybe you're just a casual fan with no financial ties to racing.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would guess I rate a 5 on the Complainometer. There are quite a few on here that are higher on the scale. Why do you choose to single me out?I do race,
and if I feel that NHRA isn't doing the right thing I have two choices.Take the all of the
enhancements and just race or stay home.Partially due to financial reasons I'm sitting this year out.I'll survive just fine.I have other projects to occupy my time.
BTW do you race a S/SS car?
