Who will have the first 8 second Stocker?

Ron Durhams pass in Vegas last week:

139 MPH equates to a 9.50 ET. Converted to sea level w/ Vegas factor of .9757 equals 9.27 ET!

Yes, new car & "still smells new"!

Forget the whole "soft" factor and "should be SS only". Bobby DeArmond and others chased the continent for the first 9 second Stocker. Obviously it won't take long to dip into the 8's. It's just a matter of some fine tuning from what I can see.
So who gets to design the "First into the Eights" t-shirt?

Re: Who will have the first 8 second Stocker?

Sorry, I'm not impressed. These are accomplishments by cars that were never offered to the general public to drive on public streets. More evidence that Stock has turned into Super Stock, while Super Stock has turned into Competition Eliminator. The sad truth is that NHRA has let it all happen.

I don't know who it will be but for sure it won't be a 396/375 car.I'm the anti Chevy guy but I think I liked it better when the 396 and 427s were ruling the roost.Real cars, real mechanical tweeks.Just my opinion.

Correction Andy Durham

Equates is one thing - reality is another - it ran 9.839 @ 139.65 at Vegas

We will work on the 60ft times 1.405 is not as good as it can be but at least it does not spin (well maybe a little on a couple of 1.425 runs)

We are stock eliminator racers and I am sure we can make it faster over time - when we need to

Right now it is just about perfect for what we are trying to do

Win a shoepolish race

Thanks

:-) peace

Who really cares at this point......It will mean NOTHING when it happens !

If you do the math on the cubic inches allowed in stock, the V-10 can go out to 532 cubic inches in stock form, I know that there are 500 ci cars going into the eights with no problem.

Whichever owner of a supercharged CJ or V10 DP wants to do it. It's pretty clear from the mph some of these cars have run it's easily possible.

Re: Who will have the first 8 second Stocker?

An 8-second pass is a hit of 11.25% or around 50 horsepower on the combination (375 added pounds) in AA and 75 horsepower (600 added pounds) if made at A weight. Lets see it. Ha.

Not wanting to argue, just would like to understand the connection between bogus hp factors and whacking the indexes. The indexes are still too soft, how are the two related?

Instead of running 1.8 under they run 1.5 under. Less of a HP hit.

Brian Wolfe and Ford Motor Company, with and only with the proper supervision of NHRA, will be the first to the "Eight's" !

I don't know who all's got them, but this basically boils down to whether the CJ is faster than the DP.

Don't know who's going to do it, but they've already gone 147+. I'm betting CJ.

If you guys who want to do something constructive with your posting, try sending email, letters or other devices to NHRA to make 3 new classes in Stock, 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0 and one new super stock 5.5. We want it (Mopar), Ford wants it, NHRA ain't opposed to it, they just need input from the racers. The we would be gone for the most part, then you guys especially you Bowtie folks could worry about something else, like getting GM involved in the car wars. SS in the 7's, Stock in the 8's, after all, this is 2011. Then we can get back to the unfair stuff that was there before we took all the attention, the heads that the Fords got, the heads the Chevy got, no heads for the Mopar. What is that about? I bet yall thought I forgot about those things.

Ed Wright 04-05-2011 09:55 PM

Re: Who will have the first 8 second Stocker?

I'm sure with you on one thing, Jeff, those heads should not be allowed. If you can't find the right castings you just have to build something for which you can find castings.

Now that would be flyin'! Will these 8 second stockers require a full firesuit and NASCAR type cage in all cars? What is the potential energy "transfer" between a 90 mph car and a 150 mph car?

C and W Racing 04-06-2011 08:59 AM

Re: Who will have the first 8 second Stocker?

If you run quicker than 9.99 your supposed to have a full fire suit, neck coller and gloves. We all know how well that is being looked at. Not.

Jeff, good job of pointing out that this fiasco started a long time ago. I don't blame you are bringing it up. All this just points out how far we've fallen.
All we need now is for GM to release a supercharged max cubic inch combo that's faster then either of the CJ's or the V10's. Boy that will fix everything won't it. Once you opened Pandora's box there's no closing it is there.

Not sure where you get your information but we had to buy $500 worth of safety equipment (including gloves and neck ring)

There was the needing to pass a driver's test - currently rigidly enforced as far as we know

You also forgot a chassis certification - which we got

I am not sure what they require on the older cars - it should be the same

I hope the 9.99 rules are applied universally and even handedly

As stock eliminator cars get faster - safety is a concern

Easy Fix: Buy it, run it hard, get the factor adjusted, sell it! Except for collecting the $90000 to buy one or what Jeff said about the weight breaks.

I say the Skillmans find some mine shaft air first, because Lord knows tehy aren't smart enough to slow them down. I'd love to see him get teh CJ ejected from stock eliminator

It seems like things are getting in line through all classes now. It wasn`t long ago the a driver in a low eight second Super Stocker only needed the license, chassis cert,a jacket and helmet. No gloves, neck collar, arm restraints or fire pants. I never could figure that one out. Now you need single layer fire pants in a 12 second Stocker, but not a 10 second bracket car. Can`t figure out that one either.

Thank you Mr. Teuton...very well said. "Bout time Mopar got some of the "gimmee". Hope you put that new DP in the eights first and silence the Blue Oval crew too. All the Mopar world is pullin' for you and your family.

I won't bet against it but the triple zero car he has is not his - it is a corporate car

Since we have had our hands on one - I am not so sure it will be an easy task to get it into the eights either

His #001 is going into storage - I think he intends to race the Doc's car #003 and when he does it will be faster and nicer than triple zero

I would say we are not as interested in being the first in the "eights" as we are being the first to win a race with one

Kevin may do it this weekend at the IHRA race

Thanks
