8:25am 46.4deg 79%, 30.01, -717' DA. :)

Still damp in spots, announced a 10am start.

Got up at 1:45am to get here. Getting situated... Report after Q1...

Got started a little later, as after drying they still ran the jet for awhile to try to get some heat in the track. 51.6deg, 73%, 30.02, -346' DA. Tiny headwind if anything.

Didn't do a very good burnout, and lost a little on the cold track, but even so, the ET wasn't near as good as the you'd think for the conditions. Heard quite a few 11.0-runs out of Hot Rod, so we're the only ones mother nature is fooling.

Bubba said he put weight in the car, and about flipped it over. Still managed a 10.634 @ 123.93 mph. I ran the same as Fayetteville last week with 1000' worse air and a headwind. Go figure.

Already into 8.90 cars...

Q2, did a burnout my momma be proud of, and the car responded nicely.
52.8 F, 72%, 30.00, -232'DA, no wind.

Terry Knott replaced a fuel pump this morning, and I saw they had Bertozzi's SS car up in the air working on something earlier.

Bubba continued his steamroller, and the Turismo is a little flatter now. ;). He gave me a little on the tree, but I gave him even more. Both parked, I got there .008, but broke out .005. Good race.

Bogan over Knott, Lisa Bolton over Brian Rowe in a dbl breakout, Paula Cambria over Mike Longhaney, and even DJ Raiser won in the wgon he bought from Mike Hayek. Man, I didn't even know DJ was eligible for parole yet! ;)

Super Stock to the lanes....

Michael Beard 04-09-2011 05:18 PM

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

Stk Rnd 2
Myers over Bowman
Bubba over Raiser
Waters Sr vs Jordan.... Jordan's red, Waters way fast
Stopping to check something on the tree.....?
Lisa Bolton vs Paul Cambria... Lisa for the W
Paula Cambria and Chris Kilraine... Both good on the tree, Kilraine parks for the W
Kenney vs Bart Kilraine, who breaks out.
Two champs, Bogan and Bertozzi... Bertozzi lifts before the 60'.... Somebody was .000, Bogan gets the freebie, patting the gas at the stripe

Sunday, Sunday, Sundaaaaaaaaaay! Saw a couple new cars roll in today, including Don Dimeler and Craig Couris. Air is similar to yesterday, but seems like many picked up a tick.

55.7 F, 74%, 29.97, 40' DA

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

I still haven't figured this place out. Air reads worse, cars go faster. Out by .005 yesterday, out by .004 today. -sigh- I leave you in the capable hands of dragracecentral.

See y'all in Concord next week.

Ever notice how Live from any IHRA race will get you about 2000-3000 hits and a Live from any NHRA gets you 25000 plus. It isn't that NHRA racers won't just go to their races they won't even look at a Live from IHRA wherever on the internet. LOL

Chip ,at first we thought the engine locked up. I called myself checking down the list
water full in radiator
no dents in pan
pulled valve covers and everything in place

pulled plugs and all good ( did find not enough jetting )

so i just pulled the plug for the day and time had run out for 1st round..
Got home and thinking all the way to the shop i decided to to look at torque converter...

Guess what ,,,,one bolt had came out and wedged between flywheel and motor in a very hard place to see.
Got bolt out after about a 30 minutes battle.. Replaced bolt and checked over everything once again and cranked the motor and ran perfect.....
Glad we don't have to pull motor . Just was not meant to be at 1st round for some reason ...

It is fixed and ready to battle again.
It was not a total lost as we did re-set the L/SA record at a 12.21..which i am very proud of....

That's because people check back on those thread multiple times to see how many people have parked on Wednesday...

Here's a couple more pics. Again, sorry I couldn't get more. The program ran pretty fast, and Super Stock was usually running before I could get up there.

Wow, that's close man, and both days too? Major Bummer! :(

I'm still envious of you thought Michael, because you're qualified for the World Championship race this fall, and I only needed to win 3rnds to join you, and I couldn't do that.... :(

Where's your next race going to be? Go get 'em there!!! :)

Michael......could it have been the wind???

Michael Beard 04-12-2011 09:12 AM

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

There was very little wind, not even measureable most of the time, but you never know when it decides to do something for a split second. Also wondering about some other possibilities, something my dad brought up many years ago. Is it possible for a slow car to ride the 'bow wave' of a faster car chasing them? Doubt a car punches that big of a hole in the air. Split times were showing a slowing trend up to 1000', then the car picked up in the back half. The second day was mostly 60'. Planted the slick in the beams, so I'm late and fast. Happens every once in a while. Quite surprised me when I got my time slip, as I had trouble doing a burnout. (MIR seemingly has a BYOW policy)  Did have three runs in a row to the 1/8th within .007 prior to that.

Maybe if Kyle Busch is bumpdrafting.

It's just MIR. It does that. What do you tell me all the time about over analyzing.LOL
Now cut the puter off and go get in line at ZMAX

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

what is a byow policy?

They also probably prepped the track differently for when the pro mods ran which we always seemed to run right after.

Bring Your Own Water. ;)

Had to ask several times for water in the burnout box. Would roll through and get the tire wet all the way around, back up, leave a coulpe feet in front of me, bring it up to 2800 in 1st gear and mat it, and it barely got to 5500 rpm, never even got to pull 2nd. I always see several instances of people having problems doing a burnout at MIR. I almost wonder if there's something different in the concrete there, because even Pageland Dragway only has 2-3ft of water tops, and I never have a problem doing a burnout there (or anywhere else). Are they spraying traction compound all the way back to and including the box?

Chip - prolly gonna be Thursday morning before I can get out of here. Schedule's killing me. Good luck at Piedmont this weekend.

Jim Kaekel 04-12-2011 03:00 PM

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

I've seen on occasion where concrete was replaced in the water box area and due to the lack of an initial smooth surface (not enough water in the concrete mix?), it made burn-outs difficult.

danny waters sr 04-12-2011 05:35 PM

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

But once you start your burn out it don't want to stop.Seems like the tires never want to grab ,but it hooks ,my 60's moved.004 thou all weekend

dragracer9911 04-13-2011 09:24 AM

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

My son and I race there weekly and we never have a problem doing a burnout. His car is a 11.80 stick shift car with a line lock and mine is a 11.90 auto without a line lock. They do run a dry water box, but we also have very little problem with water tracking up to the starting line. My son races at 7 or 8 different tracks a year and at MIR he has his best 60' times with Ceicl County being second. They also tend to run a dry water box. He runs M/T slicks and I run Hoosier slicks.

my car was doing the same thing. I did notice that behind the left lane waterbox, there seemed to be a puddle of water all weekend. I tried to drive around it with the front tires.

I also fee that they pull cars up to the stop sign too soon and too close to the cars in front doing a burnout. I had pebbles and rubber chunks hitting my windshield until I quit pulling up as soon as the person working behind the water box motioned to pull up.

Marc Kinton 04-13-2011 07:18 PM

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

I mentioned to the guys a couple times to put a little more water down in the box for you guys. I try to turn and check that area out every once in a while even though I have plenty other things to concern myself with. I happened to turn and see Mr Beard shaking his head after his burnout so I knew something musn't have gone well back there. Sucks for people who race alone but never hesitate to ask for what you want if you have a crew person. Just don't walk up and start working the water yourself, those guys take their job seriously and do want to help. They work their tails off all day up there.

Chris...it was nice to have you there man. As for running after the pro-mod cars....there shouldn't have been much difference in how your track was first thing in the morning. Heck, only a couple of them could figure it out anyways! :D Hope you guys didn't have too many traction problems but again, if ever you need something different, I'm very aproachable and would love to talk to you about it. Always wanting to learn.

Special thanks to the NHRA guys who came to race with us, quite a few folks whom I had never seen at one of our races and I hope the experience was a good one.

See you all at Piedmont...but don't ask me about track prep there...I'm gonna be racin!!!!!!!

Re: LIVE from MIR Pro-Am

Marc,

I didn't mean to imply the track wasn't providing traction. I was just echoing what dw said about the car not wanting to pull out of the water box. I did have to abort my first time run on Saturday because the car in front of me had left some liquid which was cleaned up by the track crew, but I moved over a little and I think I got out of the groove because when I shifted to second gear, my car got loose and turned toward the center line.
