I hope Big goes all the way!!

Re: How about Big Daddy!
Wouldn't it be wild if Big Daddy went all the way! Has anyone ever won a Top Fuel and/or Top Gas as well as a Stock Eliminator win during their career?
It would make another interesting footnote to an amazing life of drag racing! Lew |

Re: How about Big Daddy!
Some of you are too hard on Big, give credit when it is due. He is what 70 something and his whole life has been T/ F, I would like to see one of detractors switch from Stock to T/F and see how long it takes you to get down the track. I would like to see him get some real help from Stocker people, you all know it aint easy so why do you bust him for having a good time ?

Re: How about Big Daddy!
I think Big is doing very well, car gets faster every time out. Being an innovator in our sport since day one I understand he is doing the mech. and tune on his DP. He is the definition of old school thinking, if I don't work on it it's not my car, give him a few more laps and he will be at or near the top in terms of performance of the DP's. He turns 80 next Jan. gsa612

Re: How about Big Daddy!
I can only hope that I can still be racing and competitive at Big Daddy's age. Same goes for Bobby Warren. Both of these guys are iron men in my opinion. "Big" always brings alot of attention to stock when he is at an event. I wished he would run more of the divisionals and even some SSSSA events in Florida. Might just put a few more butts in the stands.

Re: How about Big Daddy!
For those of you not so old......Big started out as a class racer in Stock.
He and his wife raced a 1962 Max Wedge Dodge, in fact, they drove it from FL to TX and won then capped it up and drove home again. He also raced in the Gas classes with different cars locally before turning to rails.....where the money was! JimR |

Re: How about Big Daddy!
His gas-powered dragster won Top Eliminator in a race in Florida and was reported on in a Hot Rod magazine I had in 1956.... 108 MPH.... It was powered ny a Ford flathead.
The story goes, he took the 331 Hemi out of his tow car ( a '40 Ford coupe) and put in the rail, (in place of the flathead) and it was quicker and faster... and, a legend was born! :) |
Re: How about Big Daddy!
I have been told Don has "released" the crew he has had since he got the Challenger and has new people. He reportedly has gotten much more involved himself this year and has plans to be very competitive in class. The car is getting quicker. As posted above he will be 80 years young soon and is legally deaf. They don't call him "Big Daddy" for nothing! Jim:D

Re: How about Big Daddy!
How do you like Big's take on 4 wide for sportsman
from Competition Plus: “I think there’s something that should be really considered is to run these stockers 4-Wide, like the stock classes, the Stock Eliminator that I’m in,” he said. “There’s 59 cars here in that class. We could have some real good racing 4-Wide due to the fact you’ve got a lot of cars. I think it would cause the stock Sportsmen classes to be a lot more exciting to send four of them down at a time versus the two and you’ve got plenty of cars so it would be a big show. With four on the track at the same time, it would be a lot more exciting. ":eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: TALK ABOUT ORGANIZED MAYHEM......please Don no more ideas |

Re: How about Big Daddy!
4 wide stock racing would take out finish line racing, it would be all starting line reaction and who could predict their time the best, you cannot see all the cars so you would have to run all out so the bracket racers in stock ( finish line racers) would not have as much of a advantage, it would go back to true stock racing, best reaction and best tuner

It did, but a Ford flathead preceded the Hemi. |
Re: How about Big Daddy!
I would think if they ran four-wide that they would still run as usual and have have the spots as usual ao that one winner would come out of the pair on the left track and a winner would come out of the right track.
Now for class run offs this would indeed be interesting at the 1,000 ft or close to the finish line. .I vote class run-off go 4-wide when enough cars in same classes are available..would def save time... |
Re: How about Big Daddy!
I'll bet there would be some spectators to see 4-wide super stock. Even if the cars had there dial-in, there would be very little brake lights at the end of the track. "Oh no, we broke out", could be the name of the race. I am going to contact Byrd at Z-Max and see if that could be set up as a week-end race. That may be fun. Stay tuned.

Re: How about Big Daddy!
Like we're not mired in enough of a bull$**** circus atmosphere now this is all we need.
I'm going mid 13s and I'm in lane #4.A AA/SA car is in lane #1.I'll have a real shot at closing him in at the stripe.Don't some of you people engage your brains before you come up with these cockamamie ideas to make improvements to an eliminator that only needs tweaking to make it run smoothly? |
