RJ's car crashed

I just heard from Ennis that RJ Sledge's car got bent up a little. Seems somebody else was driving it and locked 'em up 1st round. Nobody hurt.

Nolan Grier was driving it, and Nolan is a very good driver. I didn't see anyone calling Jeff Teuton or Dick Lux a dumbass when they crashed last month, maybe do with a little less judgment

Chad

Why is it always the good drivers that crash after the strip from hard braking?????

Nolan must not be that good of a driver, or he would not have crashed the car.
Anybody that crashes his car at the strip from hard braking is a dumbass, no exceptions.

Untill somebody gets hurt real bad or killed this type of racing will be ok,what a shame.

I prefer to know the entire story before passing judgement. mechanical objects malfunction, there could have been something on the track, etc. I'm not saying that diving on the brakes is right, but let's at least find out the whole story

Yeah, one time I painted my calipers and coated the front rotors with overspray and the following weekend darn near changed lanes at the finish line 4th rd. Was it dumbA@$ driving? No, but maybe a dumbA@$ trying to paint LOL. Hope everything can be fixed and glad the driver is ok.

I was actually at the finish line when Nolan crashed. Ive seen guys hit the breaks WAY harder than that and end up fine, including myself. It looked like one of the back tires blew out. Nolan IS a good driver, and anyone that thinks different doesnt pay very much attention to Stock Eliminator. The problem wasnt how he way racing...it was where. The Texas Motorplex isnt called the Murderplex for no reason. It changes from asphalt to concrete, and the concrete will eat up your tires if you hit the breaks to hard there. There have been a few GOOD drivers that have crashed at that track. Instead of being hard on Nolan, maybe we should be doing something about that track.

"It changes from asphalt to concrete"

Other way around, it changes from concrete to asphalt at the finish line.

Good point, my mistake, I typed that in backwards.

Never mind he hasn't been down the track since 2003. Good lord John, get another hobby besides keyboard racing. If you hit the backspace key hard enough before you post, you might not end up looking like the moron you do today. If your just slightly out of the groove in dallas and tap the brake, it can get ugly real quick.

Not much to say. I screwed up, got a little out of the groove and tried to tighten it up and hit the brakes. I just got on them a little too much. RJs brakes are the best money can buy and I didn't adjust my driving to that. I'm just glad the car isn't hurt too bad, I didn't get into Hutto's car and RJ has been nothing but positive about the situation and I thank him for that. On another note If anyone knows of a 66/67 fairlane or parts for a 66/67 fairlane I would appreciate the help. 832-472-9826 is my cell. I feel terrible about what happened and feel I learned a valuable lesson today and am ready to get this all behind me.

Sorry to hear about JR's car being hurt. But I am glad to hear that no one was injured! JR's work speake for its self and no doubt will make the necessary repairs. Nolan, don't beat your self up over it. JR is a big boy and he can handle it. That red ford will be back in action beating up stock emiminator cars in the future.

Nolan glad you weren't hurt, that track is known for that problem.
I have already begun to look for some Fairlane parts, hopefully we can find something nice to help out.

Re: RJ's car crashed

Glad Nolan is OK.
Yes, that track is very bad at the finish line. I lost a good buddy there. One of the problems is it is very flat concrete that turns to asphalt & it has wear ruts (grooved like trucks do highways) with a crown. They are slight and the crown is very slight, but there and can cause problems if you aren't lined up. I just consider it a track with a small groove.

Glad to hear you are ok Nolan. The car can be repaired.

I sent Kirk a link to a fairlane wagon for sale when I was down there in TX. The car is in northern California though...

I actually gave RJ a ride the end of the track to make sure Nolan was okay so I was one of the 1st people on the scene. The skid marks start AFTER the finish line, so yes ,because the breaks locked up it was rules excessive by the officials, but it was not because Nolan is a "Dumbass driver". The tire was flat so it has yet to be determined if that was the cause or not. Before you start calling people a "Dumbass" know your facts and understand that it could happen to any person that straps into a race car. That's why they make everybody wear safety equipment and not just the Dumbasses.

although the dumbasses should probably leave the safety equipment on when not in the car as well

Re: RJ's car crashed

Nolan, take it in stride. It may take a while to figure out what really happened. It took me several weeks of watching video, reviewing the data recorder and recalling the accident to figure out why I was on my lid at Ennis. I was trashed by some on this forum for the same thing several years ago. Ennis has a long history of eating cars on the top end. I think you have to drive this track a little different than others. I think it is just WRONG to trash someone that crashed their car, whatever the cause. Kinda like kicking a guy when he's down. I saw your car after the crash, rear tire shouldn't be flat with the bead still on the rim. That is likely the cause. The good news is that many more on this forum support you than are trashing you. The trasher's seem to post more though. lol. Take care and hope to see you guy's back at the track soon.
