Stahl Headers

Thought I would pass this along.
I emailed Stahl Headers last week to ask about an order and they told me that as of June 1 they will no longer take orders for pre-assembled headers.
They will still be selling pre-bent kits, flanges, and collectors.
So if anybody has been thinking about buying a set of Stahl Headers they need to get it done by the 1st of June.
I sure hated to hear this because IMO they build a darn good product and have good service too.

Jere makes what may be the finest 4 into 1 header money can buy, the fit, ease of installation, and ease of maintenance are second to none. Jere is a true founding father, one of the most intelligent and helpful people I've ever had the pleasure of calling my friend.

I still have a set I bought in 1985 sitting in the trunk of my SS car that has been a garage queen since 1987. No rust inside or out whatsoever. Painted with VHT 25 years ago, they could be assembled and used right now. That is quality. Jim

Used a lot of his headers since my first '56 Chevy Jr Stocker in 1967. Met him in person when Jere and Bill Stiles used a friend's shop during the World Finals here in Tulsa. 1968? Had the white Hemi Savoy. Last talked to him late last summer. Really bright guy. Very interesting to talk with.

Use to hang out at his Lenard Gas Staion in Romulus, Mi in 1961 just down the street from Bar Hop's drive in. Station was on the corner of West Huron River Dr & Northline road. We race on Northline south of Metro Airport, Doug Nash was also a regular there. Stahl built Jenkins & Stricklers first 4 tube equal lenght headers there for thier 63 Z 11 and road tested on Northline be for heading to Detroit Dragway, Stahl later moverd to York Pa where he tied up with Dick Moroso for a while

Re: Stahl Headers

I purchased a set of Stahl headers in 1965(I think, I may be off a year of so). The car would run one tenth below the national record. Later I replaced them with a set of Hooker adjustable headers after making every adjustment I could, the Hookers ran the same et that the Stahl headers ran straight out of the box. Stahl knows how to build a quality set of headers.

Jim, Stahl headers where the only headers we ever used in both the Nova's (big block SS & Small Block Modified) and both big block Corvettes, really nice headers and Jere was good friends with my parents. Sorry to see a good company like this closing up.

Judy Stahl told me that they have been loosing money on the assembled header end of their business for a long time and that they just need to downsize their operation.
Like you, I sure hate to see them go, I've been using their products for decades and have always been happy with them.

I used to buy from Stahl & Associates, after Jere and Dick Moroso split. Should have bought a set for this car while I still could. Jere told me he was working with Bobby Warren on headers for Bobby's SS/JA car last time we spoke. Should not have screwed around so long about ordering a set. Guess I had better get it done.

I'm seriously considering ordering another set for my car just to keep even though the ones I have now are only 2 years old. I'll bet I won't have any trouble reselling them in the future!

Im limited on what I can build as I only have so many jigs and header cars here at the shop. In my opinion they had always built a very very nice production / custom style header. Its sad that now the only production companys left are gonna be Hooker, Hedman, Dynatech, ect as there more large production companies. I wish I could get a few of Stahls old jigs, those are what id hate to see not being used. His Header designs have always been nice and fit very well.

See website:
A unique opportunity exists to purchase the assembly jigs, bending instructions, assembly instructions for certain header assembly jigs with a sample header. Please contact Jere or Judy Stahl for more information.

Re: Stahl Headers

I can remember when the Dave Strickler / Grumpy Jenkins 63 Z-11 Chevy ran over 120 mph at York US 30 with the newly installed Stahl headers on the car, this car and many others just flew when his headers were put on an already good car. Great product plus Jere is an exceptional race car guy. His match races in 1966 between his street hemi Plymouth and Grump's 327 Nova where classics, I got to announce one of them at 75-80.

Re: Stahl Headers

Are they closing or will they only be doing custom headers where you would carry your car there and he would build them?

Re: Stahl Headers

Judy told me:

" We will continue to offer our pre-bent kits, bends, flanges, collectors etc., but as of June 1 we will stop taking orders for fully and partially assembled headers. That part of our business has not been profitable for many years. The economy has hit us hard and we have to do this to keep afloat. We will be cutting our payroll in half as well. So if you know anybody that wants a Stahl header tell them that time is running out."

Boy, I need some headers, just not sure I can cough up the $1300 for a set.

Sorry to hear Stahl is downsizing.
