Cobra Jet Comment
Just finished reading an article on the cobra Jet, the Ford person being interviewed was talking about the writing under the hood and said: "The special Mustang notation on the underside of the glass hood means nothing.....except that Ford snuck the Jets past NHRA'S factoring system" seems like an understatement, by the way I might mention this article is in the April 1968 hot rod magazine. Some things just never change

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
I was in the first pair down the track in the first qualifying session at Ennis (Ken Howell and I usually are) and I got back to the motorhome in time to hear Unk announce "He's on the brakes at 1000'! Well he is also #1 qualifier." (New CJ) That was just before Jeff Colvert bumped him to #2. Both CJs. One new, one old. Big difference is Jeff runs his hard like a real racer.

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
I am a spectator and love s/ss racing and comp too. Can't really enjoy throttle stop racing just no fun its all the same. Look we all know the new cars are underfactored but it is nice to see them and the factories interested. Its NHRA's job to do what is best for the new cars and the older cars to make class racing better and giving fans like me more of what we want.

I have a pretty good idea how fast the majority of them can run and right now they ain't even close to being flat out.... Good thing i don't own one (would if i could afford one) cause the world would really know just how fast mine could run and that is a promise..... **Let's have an amnesty day and everyone run fast as you can and you will not be punished , unless your mph does not match up to your et.... |
Re: Cobra Jet Comment
I like Danny's idea, a run that doesn't count against your hp combo, say like a national record run. Runs could be done apart from qualifying like in the morning when the air is good and would not count for qualifying.

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
If these so called bogus HP happened in 1968 why is there so much crying about it happing with the new cars today? It’s just S/SS history repeating itself.
To Danny and others. S/SS is like chess, it’s all about making the right moves at the right time. If you spent your hard earned money on a car that could run 1.40 under YOU should decide when to make it go fast and when to make it go slow. Not someone behind a computer. And just for the record they already have WFO day for S/SS. You can go to No Problem Raceway and run the sports national CIC race. Just on a side note for all you clowns. Give the CJ/DP thing up. They are here to stay bogus hp’s and all. NEW FORUM RULE effective 4/25/11. You can only make a post about CJ or DP (good or bad) if you race/own a NHRA or IHRA S/SS car. Your car MUST also run a minimum of .50 under the NHRA index or .80 under the IHRA index. If you do not meet these requirements the MAD Hawaiian will delete your posts ASAP. (Terry this means you can’t post anymore about CJ or DP’s) |

1- I am not a clown (used to act like one in school) 2- You are right on one thing they are bogus hp 3- I can still post until NHRA decides to drop the indexes 3 more tenths( for DP's and CJ's) 4- I post just like you do (with my opinion) 5- I still like the new cars anyway 6 - Now i have said something good and bad ... Sorry you are so offensive on this subject... Have a blessed day... |

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
Your right Terry there are 15 to 20 of you guys crying about the newer cars all the time(12 of which don't even have S/SS cars). But from the other 1476 S/SS racers in the US give it a rest for a week.

X TECH MAN - No first amenment rights for you !

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
Maybe it should be like the old days when the factory cars ruled the roost, and if you had a factory ride you were told how fast to run it and who would win.

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
Charlie, a man after my own heart. Of course the Challengers are pretty. The CJ sorta looks like a catfish without whiskers, at least that is what I told Hopkins. I told him some 'curb feelers' bolted to the side of the grille opening would finish the car off. Course he ran 5 rounds shutting off at 1000' ft so what do I know. But wait till next year when we get a blower.

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
Thanks Bo
Jeff you are right the CJ's do kind of look like a catfish with out whiskers. I just wish mopar would have left the 2010 hood on the new 2011 DP's. |
Re: Cobra Jet Comment

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
Bo, lots of rumors. I assume if they had a heads up class, you and I would be at the front of the line. It really would be great, and I like the format we had, qualifying on Fri and Sat, and run Sat night to the final, and I really liked the fast loser and no byes. It would be absolutely the least expensive show NHRA ever had with all new cars. Sounds like 68 all over. Imagine that.

Re: Cobra Jet Comment
Jeff and Bo I really liked the class we had as well......it was awsome!
