Word from the tower @ Maple Grove today

Heard today that the Maple Grove LODRS race scheduled for this weekend MAY be postponed. Weather forecast doesn't look good and a decision will be made by Tuesday. Stay tuned

Re: Word from the tower @ Maple Grove today

Probably not a bad move. With all the rain that we have had lately I am sure that the pits are probably pretty wet and I am sure that the water table is pretty high and we all know what that means at the tracks even on a sunny day. In this day of $4 gas it would be nice if decisions like this there made more often.

Re: Word from the tower @ Maple Grove today

I think it has to do more with water issues with the track surface again. Totally agree ....gas is outrageous...I for one am much more critical on throwing my money away these days for a divisional or national event than in the past...just not worth it.....sometimes you just have to say NO !!!

I am glad someone has the foresight to even consider such a decision. It would be a shame to tow 6 hours and watch it rain and sit while water percolates up through the track, not to mention the soggy pits.

Re: Word from the tower @ Maple Grove today

I run MG on a weekly basis and obviously was there yesterday. It had rained all week previously and we had NO water issues on the track. I know a lot of time & $$$ were spent in the off season to prevent problems like we had last year. Kudos to Lex and his crew. The field was firm but soggy - it won't take much more. And I know the cost of gas and the hardship it causes the sportman racer is on Lex's mind. But it's a D-1 race so it's a joint decision - time will tell.

In my day job, I deal w/ Asphalt and Dirt Oval Tracks and Sanctioning bodies across the country. The practice of proactive schedule adjustments based on weather and track conditions has been in place for years. It's rooted in common sense business practices that respect their Customers - the Racers and Fans (aka. revenue stream). They realized a while ago that there was nothing to gain by pretending that the weather and track problems didn't exist, and that everyone concerned would be better in the long run by making the go/no-go decision ahead of time. Maple Grove has always been one of the more progressive thinking tracks - it's no surprise to see it continue to put the customer first.

Of course, if they do cancel on Tuesday and it turns out to be a beautiful weekend, there won't be any complaints that they canceled needlessly and should have waited, right? :)

Exactly who said this ?? I was there today and no one would say that any decision would be made Tuesday ............And for those who were wondering the pits weren't soggy and the track had enought teeth to hold the Pontiac Pro show ...........and Jim - you're right - nobody would complain ......................

Come-On-Up & run an ASRA race!
If you join the group you can win as much if not more at an ASRA race that you can at a divisional, and the best part is you don't give up any work time to play!

Just "click-to-link" the ASRA logo further down the page and check-out the new web site, race dates and "Great Sponsors" on-board for 2011!

BTW we like Locksmiths & Yankee fans!

Looks like a Pontiac show at Topeka this weekend! Only see one "Blue Oval" on the qualifing sheet in Pro Stock. Those GXP's, by the way are Pontiacs, not bad for a company that doesn't exsit!

The Pontiac Pro show I was referring to were a few early Tempests with big inch "REAL" Pontiac engines that ran in the Eights and were a booked in show ......BTW -they were there today because it was "Pontiacs at the Grove" this weekend .

If the track isnt a concern, just the pits, why not consider racing say Super Street, Super Gas, Super Comp, Stock and Super Stock only so everyone could park on hard ground. The make up date could feature Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Comp and Alcohol and what ever else isnt complete. Get something in the books. How can you predict weather wont be a factor on the make up date?

Good idea Byron. Wouldn't that be a great race? Works for me.

Nothing has been decided.

Jack, I'm not going to name names but it was a full time Maple Grove employee who I've known for over thirty years. Ultamately is Bob's decision but I'm just glad to hear that at least there is discussion rather than just bringing everyone in to sit around. I live 40 minutes from the track, I'll be there but I'd rather be there to race not just exercise my trailer.

1)Look at the weather forcast for the next 10 days for Mohnton Pa.
2)I wish I had access to a H/D wrecker.Let's see,extract a motorhome/Renegade and
stacker from the "field",at $100 a pop?Wow,instant racing budget for 2011,and maybe enough left over for an engine puff up for 2012.

Cancel on Tuesday??.. HEY ED!!!.. did they say they would cancel on Tuesday??.. I for one would think NOT.. they might cancel after they get everyone in the gate and the entries paid.. but not on Tuesday..

Much more economical to hand out rain checks and collect interest, than cancel on Tuesday.. but that's just me.. Hazelnut with milk and sugar please, hold the soapbox...

It's a 3 day holliday weekend - Plus - D-1 needs to get this race in to settle Jeg's All Star Team points. There is no chance this race would be postponed before it was attempted & won't be called off unless it rained throughout the entire weekend and there was no other choice. The show will go on - even if it is interrupted periodically by showers etc.. and run on an "abbreviated" schedule. That's been the status quo for quite a while... why would anyone think it would be any different?
Show up ready to race & don't count on things going as scheduled. I love Maple Grove.. the track is always good. If I gotta get towed out of my pit-spot when its all over then so be it.... it won't have been the 1st time (or second or third)... See you-all there Sat morning.
