Just curious whos' going to Mission for the "BC Nationals" as they call it, this weekend. I'm hoping, of course, that the weather will cooperate.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

After planning on Mission for "many" months with everything ready to go, I decided to pull the plug last night as the weather there looks terrible for the weekend. Hard to justify pulling twelve hours plus one way through the mountains just to sit around.

For all the people who do go I hope you get some racing in.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

I had to take this week as holidays at work to get the Thurs, Fri, & Sat off, so I`ll be there for the test session Thursday morning. The weather forecast seems to change so often, last night the local News showed rain on Friday, dry Sat & Sun, but the Weather Network admititly doesn`t look great, but I`ll go anyhow. Luckily I live less than an hour from Mission, but I certainly understand how someone 12 or more hours would be hesitant. See you there, Danny?

Well if you don't go because it may rain, then you find out there runnin, your pissed! so you make the trip and take the odds. if it does happen rain you huddle with all your freinds under some ones awning, have multiple cocktails! or the beverage of your choice and tell stories to kill the time. this time of year in the great N.W. is just how it is. See ya up there.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

That is a good point regarding sitting with friends in the rain when racing is not possible. The northwest racers definitely make the best of it when that is the case.

For me Spokane is a go rain or not. It has been eighteen years since I last raced a divisional and I just can't wait any longer.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

I agree with Jim,,, if you're going to get rained out, get it at the track, not your home. Last weekend, my wife called to ask how bad the rain was, since it was pouring at the house, and I told her we were in the staging lanes ready to run at Bremerton, only 30 minutes away.
However, if I had a real long tow, I'd think long and hard about it. I'm only 3 hours away from Mission, so you know I'll be going,,, no dog in the fight, but love to watch you guys (and gals) do your thing.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

On tonights local news hour, the weather forecast for Sat calls for a possibilty of light intermitent showers, and Sundays supposed to be nice. Time will tell.Like Jim said, I`d rather be bench racing in the rain than at work anyhow!

Weather here changes by the hour and it depends what station you are looking at. Here's what the track uses.

The track webcam shows they are running. Cleaning up from a crash or broken car it looks like.
I'm headed out there in the morning, without an umbrella.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

It was a pretty decent day at Mission today, I rolled in around 10.30am, no rain at all since about 6.00 am this morning, although the Test & Tune didn`t get started until 1.30-2.00PM.I saw a few cars make 6 or 7 passes today. At least 3 new Stockers in the pits, Mike Bookers Drag Pack Challenger, Grant Eldridges D/SA 68 Camaro, and although it isn`t finishd yet, Tom Nolans new 64 Thunderbolt was there, fresh out of the chassis shop. Lots of room in the pits for more cars, the test & tune was cut short around 6.30PM, when a Comp door car (AA/AT 56-57 Corvette) hit both guard rails hard, broke both front struts/wheels off, and moved at least 2 of the 3800 lb concrete blocks noticably.Sat & Sunday are looking pretty weatherwise, and if Friday is as "crappy" as the forecast called for today, we should be fine,

Good Luck to everyone this weekend! It's always a crap shoot early in the season at Mission-even though it's a month later than usual this year.

Hopefully someone will be taking pictures and posting them, as that will be as close as I can get to seeing the cars.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

Well,, after a late start, about 12:45pm today, most everyone got 1 hit in, and just when the second session of Stock was in the lanes, between 4:30 and 5:00, all hail broke loose, followed by the big downpour that sent everybody back to their trailers.
It was nice catching up with some of you,, I had to head back home as I've got other commitments this weekend,, good luck guys. Rory,,sorry to hear you can't come down next weekend to Bremerton.
Dion,, good to see you again.. Bob G.,, I love watching that stick car. "West coast",, it was nice meeting you also.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

Saw racin' today so i'm happy. The numbers on the qualifying sheets don't tell much of the story though. The guys near the bottom of the pack, like Jr. Cour and Sorensen made great runs at least part way down the track. In Cours case the tires spin but he kept with it and lifted early. Looked like it would have run 9.7 even with the spin. Isherwoods slow ET was a giant wheelie heading towards the wall. In Comp Jirka Kaplan was on a major pass but the blower belt departed about 330 ft mark and was laying on the track by 500ft.

Not many cars and the spectators .could have all carpooled in one van.

Hopefully more tomorrow.

Re: Who is going to Mission??

I was there today twice, first time i got to the gate and it was raining pretty good so i turned around and went to the swap meet, came back later and it appeared plenty dry but they were scraping the track and expected to be a couple more hours (at 1pm) so back to the swap meet. Then home. I see on DRC they ran Comp and Alky and SS... wow, Isherwood has that big ol' Belvedere flying, 9.23 ?? Amazing if so.

I see Mike Nottingham is shown as a 9.65 in SS/EA, he went 9.70 yesterday but the run was disallowed because the tech card had SS/ but not EA on it. I have no idea if there is another chance to back up that as a record this evening.

Also no idea what is happening in Stock since they show Rd2 yet from the sounds of things only a few went down yesterday before the rain and it doesn't appear they've run the others today.

Nice and sunny here 45 miles west of the track.

That's gonna hurt the old index a bit. We'll see if he brings it out on race day or not.

To quote Dean Murdoch from a few years ago, "He has always run his car to go fast, to hell with the index. He does not care. It is about making a statement."

Isherwood had a pretty good scare first qualifying run this afternoon. There was a lot of track cleaning and drying but apparently not enough. After his usual large wheelie and coming down near the center line he got the car gong straight only to end up sideways about 1/2 track due to water under the surface. They scraped and dried some more and he got another hit. SS/DA 66 Hemi Belvedere did in fact run a 9.23. May have video in a few days of both runs.

Mike Nottingham in his SS/EA 67 Fairlane was just completing tear down tech and will try to better his 9.65 tomorrow morning for the SS/EA record.
