Live from Maple Grove - NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
 

Today the Lucas Oil Series has finally come to Division One and the racers have turned out for sure as there are plenty parked and ready for the test n tune this afternoon .

Weather ?? So nice here today that I may never want to go home - what a difference a few days have made concerning the forecast - the high this afternoon is to be in the low nineties and partly sunny .For the next two days there is a possibility of a thunder storm in the afternoons but not enough to wash out the event .

I took a few pictures and will post them later after I find my lost card reader .............

Sounds like the weather is so nice & you are so excited that you forgot where you were??!!

I'll be driving north through PA on Sunday on my way to the farm for 9 weeks of summer R&R. (which means countless hours mowing in the tractor and cutting 20 cords of firewood)

Wish I was going to the track instead!!!

Hi gang and welcome to Summer - at least here at Maple Grove Park .Today was hot and ugly , the way we're used to in the Northeast .To say it was slow at this afternoons test session would be an understatment for sure .The track was just OK but the weather was at over 4000 ' so what else would you expect .

As for me I had to unhook my trailer and head to my shop for "parts" as I had my Springtime stuff on the car and Summer is now upon us .

At this moment I'm sitting on route 222 where I've been for more than an hour without moving one inch ...........later .I'll get back to the track tonight ......soon I hope .

Good morning - Even though I don't have a car count yet it looks like the racers have chosen to spend the Memorial Day weekend here at Maple Grove Raceway as when they opened the gates this AM the trailers rolled in .

Its a picture perfect end of Spring day with the Sun out and the temp already in the low seventies .The grass here is still a little damp from last nights mini shower but will burn off fast I'm sure .

If you're on the fence about coming my advise is to load-up and head over ..............

What a difference a day makes -- the hot and humid conditions of yesterday are gone today and most picked up anywhere from .15 to .25 over yesterday .The track had real teeth this morning with spectators getting a real wheelstand show from the Stock and SuperStock guys and gals .

Q-2 should be coming up again for us shortly ......be back then .FYI -the Internet connection here is terrible so bear with me .

Q-2 was anywhere from .05 to .12 slower for everyone - traction wasn't an issue but most lost a few in their sixties . Weather was the main factor in going slower - air for the Stockers when they ran was in the 3400 range .

Because this morning was so sporty more than usual had breakage ......even the .90 guys had their woes .......pictured below is Tommy Goldman holding class on how to rebuild PowerGlides in the pits .......and we were going to eat on that table later .

Wendy and Ron are in the house this weekend ...........ain't love grand ? ?

One last thing before dinner - how about 97 Stockers here and some to arrive tomorrow AM ...

Here's the deal - no trip to Maple Grove Park on Memorial Day weekend would be complete without a sidetrip to the Shady Maple Smosgasbord .After eating some fine grub Debbie drug me ( kicking and fighting the whole way ) downstairs to the huge gift shop - so I took a few pics so you can suffer along with me .........and they have a pick-up area (see below pic ) -well , maybe not the kind you thought ..................Also , can you tell which of the below pictures is not really a picture ?

I'll go with picture number two, Alex.

I remember quite a few years ago we followed Dave Ribeiro to the Shady Maple as he took the back way there. I doubt I could get there going that way without a GPS. I think that was the last time I was there. Good eats.

SuperStock made their pass and were pretty much like Stock with the excption of some headwind at times .The re '70 Hemi Cuda pictured below got "Best Appearing Car" - sorry but I didn't get his name .......Jeanne Linke spent some of her morning lining up her dad and uncle......Max Nalor formerly of Numedia was in house today .

Last night after some classes ran first round it was time for some food , adult beverages and mostly talking about how we won or how many ways we lost .This Memorial Day weekend is a perfect time to visit with friends .

Debbie and I visited the MASGA headquarters and we greeted by none other than "Uncle Buck" himself and both us were glad he could make it here as he's been on the injured reserve list for some time .And he felt even better when his partner (George Donhauser won first round ) - welcome back Ron ............

And then there were the fireworks - thanks to Maple Grove - racers and fans were treated to a spectacular fireworks display that topped off a super evenng of racing .

Got to visit with an old friend yesterday - well not exactly a friend - guess you can't call a car a friend - Todd Hoven showed up with Truman Fields '68 Firebird that I haven't seen in many years - he's making strides in D/S ..........
