Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Hello, drag race fans.
Tomorrow is qualifying day. Stock gets 3 runs, Super Stock gets 2 runs and then class. Eliminations begin Saturday morning. I'm not really sure where I'm going to take video from. All the seats in the stands where I was taking video from last weekend are reserved. There is a stand by the end of the track, but it's pretty close to the finish line and you can't read the far side scoreboard unless you zoom in on it. Here's an example from last week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6Q0xk_eZbA Also, taking video from that far down the track is tough because there will be some big disparities in ET. That's why I like to film time runs close to the starting line and eliminations closer to the finish line. I might just take this weekend off from taking video. We'll see. -Toby |

Toby,
What time do the gates open? |
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Toby,

That's OK, Bob. I would have to stand up to take the video and I wouldn't want to obstruct other people's view. Thanks a lot for the offer though. I forgot Bernie will be doing in car cam videos. He told me he is working on mounting it in places other than his helmet and I will probably be doing staging lane videos also. -Toby |
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Toby: Super Stock class is on Friday. When I did video in the 80's and 90's I would buy a a reserve ticket upgrade and go to the top of the grandstands in a corner where I was not in the way, It worked out pretty well. Still picture are ok also.

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Videos are awesome, but been so jammed with work don't have time to watch hardly any of them. I enjoy the still pics... I can glance through them in a hurry, appreciate cars, people, and the effort, and get back to work.

I put in my earbuds and crank up the volume, it feels like I'm almost there.

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Toby; all you do is appreciated but how about some short interviews with staging lane videos?
|
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
They are running them through pretty quick and there is hardly any time to do anything let alone take video. They just called Stock for their third run and we will be done before noon.
Here's Bernie Cunningham's in car cam from Q1: |
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
That is a GREAT camera angle!! Don't put one on the front of a CJ or DP.....You would see nothing but the ground from 1000' on from getting on the brakes so hard! LOL...No it really is good camera work. Can't wait to see the others..

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Toby,
Thanks for the great job you do posting "Live from..." videos. The hood-cam video you posted earlier today will start a new trend, I betcha. Again, your race coverage is much appreciated. |

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
NHRA official was in a bad spot right in the middle of shutdown?
|
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
What's the track like? A lot of SS'ers "slowed" according to DRC.
|
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
<~Never seen a offfical in the middle of the track before! that a west coast thingy?
|
Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
The NHRA track guy is in the middle of the shut down area because the scale and fuel check are on the left side of the track. Many racers pit on the right side of the track and have to cross the track where he is standing. He is there to stop the cars from crossing the track to get to their pits when cars on the track are comming into the shut down area. Most race cars are going fairly slow when they get to him.

I tried to get the scoreboards the best I could. It's better than nothing.
I will be posting round 2 of class and in car cams from Frank Grossi and Tony Mandella. |

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
Where are the stick S/S cars? 36 cars, no stickshift cars? Maybe they don't want to run the Comp-style Class Elminations?

Re: Live from the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals
