Whats the fastest SB Chevy SS/GT engine
 

What would be the fastest small block Chevy that a man could build for Super Stock GT ? When I says fastest, I dont mean farthest under the index, I mean OVERALL elapsed time . I know Fogle is wicked fast but I dont know the combo. I was thinking it was a 350 with the Holley carb, but I'm sure someone will correct me. I'm just curious and daydreaming about different combos. Thanks for any help.

The 327 with small Holley carb of Byron Setters built by Gary Hettler is the fastest SBC in the west!

How fast is it ? I was thinking Fogle had run in the 8's or fairly close.

Well considering there is Fbody's with factory shortblocks running N/A in the 9's I would guess LS1. I believe some stockers run in the 9's as well.

70 350 /350 with :eek: Quadrajet, domed pistons, big valves, rated at 375 stick shift only. Seems overrated to me........Thanx Trevor

Unsure Adger, I bought my wife a 2000 Z28 auto, 2.73 LSD bone stock @ Atco ran 13.10. I installed a Yank 4400 converter and it ran 12.30's stock with ET Streets. A couple years later I bought her a 2004 Zo6 6 Speed 405 hp LS6 - The camaro was faster!!! :)

I am talking about engines with carbs, not fuel injection. I'm sorry,I should have mentioned that. I'm real curious about the 350 with the Holley carb

Your question is still too vague.

You're not even telling anyone what body you want to use, in what GT class.

How about a Pontiac Sunfire with a 1970 Chevy Camaro 350/360 rated at 325HP?

I think Alan is right, 1970 LT1 gets my vote of conventional sbc's!!!!!!

The 1970 350/370 (Holley) Corvette stick only is factored at 355 for GT with factory heads. That's 2840 in GT/A not counting the driver @ 170 pounds. Shipping weight for a 66 Chevy II 2dr sedan, depending on the V8 combination, is 2825, for a 67 Chevy II 2dr sedan, it's 2800.

However, for some reason, the 1970 350/360 (Holley) is rated at 325 that's 2600 in GT/A (not counting 170 pounds for the driver and I'm not sure you can get there, or if it is legal), and the 350/350 (QuadraJet) is rated at 370 (that's 2960 in GT/A not counting 170 pound for the driver). All those are for factory heads, add 5HP for aftermarket heads if you need them.

If you're looking at a 1970 Chevy HP 350 with a Holley, I think the 350/370 stick only Corvette is what fits your car. The 1969 version is factored at 400 for GT, you don't want that.

It looks like the engine with the most closely matches what you're describing, and that fits your car, is the 1970 Corvette stick only 350/370. How fast it is, I don't know. I think your best bet is to contact Nitro Joe, and see if he has the information you want, and send him some money.

Probably the PC Richard Cobalt. It's been several impressive 9.0 ets with the 400 small block. I guess PC Richard got tired of impressing, and swtich to the easier Ford combo.

I can get the car to the weight of the 350 - 360HP. That would be 2770lbs. What carb is legal on this engine ? I was told they made some other Holley carbs like the HP series legal but I dont know that for a fact . Who builds some of the fastest engines of this type out there.......Gulius ? Who else ? What heads are the heads of choice ? Thanks for any and all help.

No, the HP Holley carburetors are not legal for traditional Super Stock engines, traditional Super Stock requires a choke tower and the choke plate/shaft assembly. Quick Fuel has a 750/780 that is legal. Consider Jeff Taylor as a possible engine builder.

We would build the engine ourself ( if this ever transpired...........just in the thought process now ). The car is going to Wisecarver to get a round tube ,back half, 4-link, etc and I work at an engine shop. I would get a lot of input from my buddy Jake Barbato at Jenkins Competition, We are building a mild 383 for the car now and my future plans are Super Stock. Of course saying and doing are two different things.......lol

Sean, I know your LT1 is fast as heck (your LT1 in GT/BA out runs my LT1 in GT/AA) but the 327 is the best SBC "combination", the '70 LT1 is a great engine just not the best HP factor.....

I like the 350/360 deal. I dont know what part number carb it takes. I know my Chevy II is a light sucker. In my wild dream........I would have this car as a nice lil GT/A car. Maybe I'm being ignorant, but I appreciate all the responses.

As much as I like the 66-67 Chevy II, I think you'll have a really hard time being competitive with the late model FWD conversion cars.

And those cars sure don't like wind. I'd I was going to run around 9.00 ETs at mid-140s I would probably not choose a Chevy 2. As much as I like them.
