Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
2 Attachment(s)
Good afternoon and welcome - What should have been a easy under two hour ride turned out to be 4 1/2 thanks to not one but two accidents on PA's Blue Route this morning .Other than that the ride had much scenery along the waterways coming here even while it was raining .Right now its sunny and humid with the temp in the low eighties and a slight breeze .
Test n tune is to start around 3 as they are preparing the track at this moment . So what else is new - first thing to greet me a few minutes ago as I was working hard to get things up and running was that I spied the boss -- doing what he does best - standing around BS'ing .When will he learn ........ |

Re: Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Jack, you could have come in on Friday. I knew when you rolled in it was going to rain, there goes my testing for the day. Like Jack said, the rain came down along with hail. It has let up a bit, but I am sure we are done for today.
The weather for this weekend looks to be slow, even for Cecil County, which can be fast even when its hot. The grains of water today were 105 to 110. The air when I tested was about 3400 feet, temp 92, bar 29.58, with a 3 to 4 mph head wind. The weather is supposed to be the same for the rest of the weekend. |

I would call the track on the gate time, 3 years ago I arrived at night at this event , and they had closed the gate 1-2 hours early. I was not happy.

Good morning - today starts the zillionth edition of the race here at Cecil County Dragway and we're not off to a great start .Fog - in every direction - its starting to burn off but it will be a few hours till that happens .
Anyway after being here just one day I'm already bored as I have zero TV reception ( no Digital service and my Satalite is still "on the fritz" ) plus the Internet is so slow .......its gonna be a long weekend . You want good news - not much to tell ( go ahead - shoot the messenger ) except that yesterday while doing some normal service before the test n tune my friend and expert chassis guy Tommy Goldman found some broken welds in my rear suspension that would have given me a very wild ride had I gone down the track so we took it apart and started looking for someone with a welder - then the lightbulb lit - find Johnny D ( John DiBartolomeo - Editor of Drag Racing Action magazine - S/Comp racer - and a super welder) with his new Lincoln welder setup and after Tommy and I took it apart Johnny had it welded up in no time flat .So much for dodging a bullet ........Did you ever notice how I can't seem to get thru a race weekend without some drama ? You want weather ? How about 70 degrees with a whopping 81% humidity along with a 29.56 barometer comes out to around 2000' DA but that will all change as things burn out .Later ........... |
Re: Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Jack, I love your coverage you pass on anywhere you go, but don't bitch, I'm at work on a computer. Now this is boring! You know the old phrase, "a bad day at the races is far better then a good day at work". Just think how lucky you are to have the time and means to do what you like to do. Good luck at the races.

Someone please call Ed Fernandez - Why you ask ? Just tell him the Sun is out - the beer is getting cold - Billy is here and most important his "spot" is being cleaned and cleared as I type .
Other than that its never a good thing in August when the temperature and the humidity are the same number . We're getting weepers on the track but one lane is already good so maybe in another hour or so we'll get going ............. PS -"Uncle Buck" is in the house ........... |
Re: Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Hope the rain headed our way misses you guys. Hows the car count looking in all the other classes?

Well we final got out first run at 2:30. The in car cam is brought yo you by Bill Belden in his I/S Nova. The camera movement was do to poor mounting. I hope to have a better mount for Indy.
Here are a few more photos. I will have some Super Stock picture later along with a SS in car cam. |

I will be at Indy in A/SA. I am trying to see what the car likes in A. I have not run in A weight for over 3 years. I know I can not win class, but I know it will qualify. I'm not going to make the same mistake I did last year.
The in car cam is brought to you by Pete Biondo. I wanted a different look. I also bet Pete dinner if he could hit the tree .015 or better with his eyes closed. Well he went .009 and dinner was on me. Now we all know how to cut a light, I didn't think it was that easy. Here are some pictures of SS in the lanes for there first qualifying shot. |

Well the storm put a fast end to the day's racing and all but a half dozen S/G cars got a time run .When the rains hit most had no choice but to load up in a big hurry and watch it pour - it stopped in a little under an hour and then it was time - at least for some of us to attend another of Uncle Buck's feasts - Bar-B-Q ribs - racks and racks of them along with all the fixens ........Ron was at his best tonight as the pics will show . Well done my friend - well done indeed ! !
Tomorrow - thats a mystery as to whats going to happen -------- many questions------- Will we get a time shot ? Will we finish the race in one day again ? Will it rain ? Will we have weepers again ? Will we finish Sunday? Will Ed Fernandez make an appearance ? Will Penny Benders' son Zach turn sixteen tomorrow? Will Truman D. Fields win "Best Appearing Car" at this event ? Will Ms. Sawka ever stop ragin' on me ? I could go on and on but you get it I'm sure ..........the answer to all of these questions and more in the AM ............ |
Re: Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Lets Go Guys - get those butts out of bed and rise and shine! time to dry off the track and get those cars down the 1/4 mile!!!!! (or are we all just moving a tad slow this morning due to too much fun last nite? ) :) and to Jack..... never

Re: Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
WOW-that "Hard Times" Firebird looks fantastic!! every time my brother and I went to a div 3 points race in the 70s with our B/S chevelle, and Truman showed up, we just felt like loading up and going home, whatever class he was in. That car turned out great and it is completely appropriate it has returned to the correct and intended useage!

There could be another storm later so ........
