This Friday night under the lights the top Cobra Jet qualifier will go heads-up with current Super Stock Hemi record holder Charlie Westcott Jr. Best two out of three runs will determine the overall champion! Come down to Milan Dragway, Milan, MI, Friday night to see it in person or check throughout the weekend on the Ford Racing Facebook page and Class Racer for updates!

old vs. new, ya right..........maybe in vehicle (outside) appearance only..................I'd venture a guess that Wescott's got newer stuff in his old tired Hemi than the Mustang's got. My money's on Westcott unless someone "puts" a little something in his back pocket before the show starts.

My first thought exactly on the "Back Pocket" issue since it's a Ford race, but then again I thought, "its Charlie". I don't think he would give up a win for a few $$$. He is a hard competitor.

OK I'll be the one to ask. Are the CJ's and Hemi supposed to be in "legal" (or near legal) NHRA SS trim? Since the "rules" for the event specify "running modified NHRA Stock and Super Stock rules" I wonder how "modified" the front runners will be. I guess we'll know the answer pretty soon but what is the Blaine Ramey "exhibition" entry capable of? At any rate you have to give the promoters kudos for the interest this event has generated and to the racers for participating. Can't wait for the video.

I'm rooting for the Warfish. Don't fool yourself though thinking old vs new. That Hemi has alot of Pro Stock technology in it.

If any of the SS Cobra Jets have been modified as much as the rule book allows, I doubt it would even be a race between them with the blowers and the Warfish. As it is, I hope/bet Charlie will kick ***!

Carl is a Hemi Hunter. That car is stupid fast. Not taking anything away from Charlie , he has my respect and his car is bad *** as well . This is a great show for the fans

Well if Charlie goes 8.28!!!! Just saved me a lot of diesel to Indy. I was to leave in the AM but don't have that. I see where two of his customers went 80's today. Can play in that box.

Let me see if I read this correctly.You said he went 8.28 and two of his customers went 8.80s?
What did he sell them some old 392s from the back room?
I've heard rumors that he sprays StarKist oil at 1000'.Maybe that's it.

Seriously I don't think we're going to see the big numbers we've seen in SS/AH the past few years.The participation is way down and I think even the Hemi guys are feeling it in their pocket.
Now the Ford guys are a different story.I think it will take a bit of time to put a dent in the real players pockets.
Just an observation from a poor old guy with one of the slowest cars in classracing.

It was posted last night on the "Live From the NMCA Milan Cobra Jet Shootout" topic. That pass was a CWjr 8.46 @159½. Tasca's T&T mph was 168+ (gotta love the huffer on the top end)

Tascas car broke a pulley or something, so they came and asked me to run Hopkins. They should have that video on sometime also. He went 35 letting out of it, and I went 43.
It was a good test session for me, and a new crowd. Thanks to Jesse Kershaw for inviting us to attend.

And the 2 customers that Sledfish is referring to, Henson and Wendell are running engines that are 50 behind the current versions. Maybe you could run with that, hard to say.

Chuck has a new one, as does Houser and Baughman.

It is pretty obvious to me that the fords are making 1200+ hp. Hopkins has a legal SS car, is about 200+ heavier than me, and a tenth or more quicker. One of those cars can make anyone look like Bob Glidden.

This is what it seems like very few realize. Charlie runs the wheels off that thing. He is making good power, but if that was all it was, a dyno sheet would determine the winner.

Not to mention the fact that every race the Wescotts go to, they get double the data.

Nice pass under those conditions, Looks like the Wescotts are ready for Indy. Good Luck.

I'll still have to root for the underdog and hope for a Perkins/Grumpy/Visner shootout winner though!

Jennings told me that perk isnt going as of yesterday. Bummer for them. I guess they had some issues they couldnt fix. Larrys a good racer.

Thank you to Charlie Westcott Jr. for coming out and helping us put on a show.

We had intended 2 out of 3 but after Carl broke we waited to see if he'd be able to get it back together. Once he was out, Charlie was gracious enough to agree to run Randy Hopkins. Randy was ready to pack up for the night but agreed to pull the car out and make a run. We ran out of time for a third run Friday night.

Turned out to be a great race! Most photographers had gone home by the time they ran because with Carl breaking they thought it was over. I shot that video from the stands but I think it came out pretty well. Check it out if you haven't already.

Best of luck to Charlie and Randy at Indy!
