"Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

Well we are almost there. We stopped for diesel, to dump the motorhome, and we are now at the Skillman's Ford dealership filling up with water for the week. We are in Greenwood now, so we should be there shortly. I will let you know what # we are when we get there. I received a text from Paula Cotten and they are #128 and got there around 7 pm. Does anyone remember how many got parked on Monday last year? I know not everyone who arrived on Sunday got in on Monday.

More later.

Oh, thanks to Bill, Ray and Drew for helping us with water tonight.

We're here! We're here! Arrived at 1:40 am and we are #207. We are in a field that is to the left when you come in the Main Gate. The other field looked full in the dark and this one almost is full. More tomorrow. Oh, they said to be sure and put up your stack if you are going to run your generator. The temperature seems nice, but we are putting the stack up anyway.

We're on the road should be there at 11 or so. Looking forward to a fun week!

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

Bill Skillman will have a new engine for his stocker from Ford this afternoon. Only minor work that has to be done on the new engine, change cams [ I bet degreeing four cams all at once is a challenge ], blower, fuel system, ignition, water pump, install, and then to the chassis dyno. "Piece of Cake"

I hope he puts wheelie bars on the car so Stacey won't have to kill him.

They parked 200 rigs last year on Monday, and I was # 201, which got me an early morning wake up call Tuesday. I think we got there around 10:00 P.M. that Sunday night after leaving Bowling Green.

testing is going good at BG, making 1 more run, just went 9.69-135 in GT/FA, the "Over the Hill Ohio Gang" will be heading to indy soon.

They started moving in rigs sometime after 9. They are taking 6 at a time. I doubt if we get in today. I just saw Al Provoast and Al Corda. Corda said nobody had taken him up on the B/SA Gamblers race yet!

Well I am going to fix breakfast now. More later.

Still in Cincy.. Adding weight, bigger tranny cooler, and sorting out the tune for quicker spool and seeing if I can get that .8 under more like 1 sec plus under :(

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

67chevygary--I will try to get your pictures!

Lines are still moving. The weather here is wonderful. The high today is 82. It is a little windy which makes it nice just hanging out. I even had room sitting out here to get my slides out and mop out some of the Stanton and Bowling Green dust!

I think I may walk over to the other field and see where they are now. Someone said they are moving pretty well.

Oh Larry had an idea for some extra entertainment here at the Pony (hp) Show. Why not add a dog show, too? All sorts of varieties and classes! And we could give away Wal-mart baggies for prizes!

The other "Live Reporter" just pulled in. Number 231 in the third field. Not sure I will get in today, but I can catch up on work while wait to get parked.

To my surprise there is 4G service in the Indy area. It will make work and reporting allot more enjoyable. For some who may not know what I am talking about, most computers use a 3G network when on the road. It can be okay, but sometimes it can be very slow. Having 4G is just about as good as cable or DSL.

I saw Larry Hill at the gate, not sure if he is greeting all the racers when they came in, or just trying to speed up the parking process.

And if you need any or need help with any Sprint 3 or 4g devices let me know. Im used to it. I have more cylinder head customers then sprint customers when im at that gig, and at the track im always getting sprint questions hahaa.

Just walked across to see how the parking was going and they are on about #108. We just may make it inside today!

I just saw Randall Klien and Ron Taylor both just withdrew. (and I posted a pic of Rene Garza from INDY 09 on the "Indy 2011" thread). I will also help with the others.

Mark, we wish you were here, too. Thanks, Tom on the pictures. Maybe between us both we can keep up!

I just saw where Jason and Jennifer McCormack had both re-entered in "Memory of Judy". I am so glad. I'm sure that is just what Judy would have wanted them to do. I am looking forward to seeing ya'll when you get here.

Well, they have started moving in rigs on our side of the road, so hopefully we will get in this afternoon.

Should be plenty of room in the pits, down 300 entries from a few years ago.
173 less then quota, only full quota is Pro Stock.

Well, Wallace just came by and said they are going to clear this lot out tonight, then stop parking. So #210 will be the last one in.

Well, we are in and parked and set up for the week. We are down by Gate 8 all the way up against the fence next to the track. So come on down to see us. Larry is working on my golf cart now. It was making a big racket in Bowling Green so he has it apart trying to make some parts that are missing. Anybody got spare parts for golf carts??

Butch,

The car should be ready for Charlotte. The car came out really nice. Hawk and the Cook Brothers did an outstanding job on this build.

I found a few teaser photos, I hope to have some more photos when the car is complete.

Is it something we can send you? What kind of cart is it? FedEx has a hub in Indianapolis.

Let me know if I can help!

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

We arrived in line at about 6:15 tonight and we are #255 and yes they did park 210 today.

Took the 8:30 am corvette assembly plant tour this morning after staying at BG last night. very interesting, there were grandsport,Z06 and ZR1 vettes on the line being built right along with the regular base vettes.the only thing common is the color, they start with one days orders for a certain color and do all of that color regardless of options and then go to the next color If you are in Bowling Green , take the tour and then go to the museum just down the road.

Have not been to Indy since 04, and there is one change that I did not know about, THE TIME ZONE, they used to use central time and apparently 4-5 years ago they switched to eastern time zone.

Took a ride into the pits and looks like plenty of room left. Had a visit with Tom, TJ and Mike Boucher.

Glad to see that as Larry noted, that Jason and Jennifer re-entered,it is fitting and seeing the racing community will be good for all.

The weather on this trip has been fantastic, but not so good for my wife Patty back home in Massachusetts. 1 tree down in the yard is no big problem, but the power has been out now for more than a day and the town called to say that it maybe 3 more days. I feel a little awkward knowing that if I was there, we would have the motorhome for power and all the other things we take for granted.Just hoping they get those wires connected for her soon.

Larry Hill 08-29-2011 10:52 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

Thanks, Lew, but Larry thinks he has it patched up enough to last til we get home. We have been having a great time tonight getting caught up with the Lynch's, the Buckners, Doug Duell, John McLeod, Drew Whalen, Jerry Davis. Everbody's been telling stories!

Lots of people over in lot 3 and back to filling up lot 1. We get to tech tomorrow, so I will get some pics then.

And guess who I saw today??? Mr. Toby Lang, himself! So maybe you guys can talk him into doing some videos here. I have already had a request for the A/S and A/SA Challenges!

Well it is about bedtime, so more tomorrow!

Please say "hi" to Toby for me, and let him know I am sending me more of my "good Karma"! It worked last race, I thought he could use it!

Thanks for your updates! Racing at Indy is merely a pipe dream for me. I am super jealous of you all!

Good luck this week!

Indy is has always been in the Eastern Time Zone, but didn't observe Daylight Savings Time. They just recently (about three years ago) started switching to daylight savings time in the Spring, so now they are always an hour ahead of CST year 'round instead of just the Fall/Winter months.

Thanks for the explaination, that sounds more likely. All I knew was that every time that I've been here in the last 30 years we had a 1 hour difference and now we don't.

Thanks
