Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

How many of you would be interested in a 6-8 combo race series for the 2012 race season?

Races would take place in the Northwest around the NHRA/IHRA schedule; membership would be required for full payout and series would have an end of year payout structure.

Races would be doubleheaders so once you are at track, you have two chances i.e. Saturday & Sunday.

Series would have it's own tech official familiar with both NHRA and IHRA rules.

NHRA and IHRA classes accepted including crate motors

$100 yearly membership fee
$40 associate member fee

$100 entry per race or $200 for the doubleheader weekend.

No heads up races for similar classed cars. Dial in only so as to keep an even playing field and entice ALL racers to attend races.

I have some funding in place but would be open to ideas, suggestions and offers from the group.

Your feedback is appreciated and timing is key to assembling a series of this nature for the 2012 season.

Sounds great! What area are you considering? Hopefully you'd get more racers showing up than some of the similar attempts in the past. Like the poor national open series...

I would be interested depending on what tracks you would run them at. Sounds like a great plan.

Mark and Dave,

We will go wherever the tracks want our show and I stress "show." Obviously, I have some homework to do with pre-race promotion and track negotiations but I know the group can assist in that effort.

I would like to see Mission, Seattle, Spokane, Billings, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and possibly SIR in Sakatchewan. Woodburn would be great also but I don't want to alienate any track operator who would be interested in the show.

I realize we will not be successful in running at all of these tracks but it's a pool to start from. Forgot Firebird in Boise.

You guys and gals will be the stars in this effort and your feedback will build this series.

Div 5 racers, I meant no disrespect but if you have a racetrack in mind, please let me know.

Just realized most of the tracks we discussed are all Div 6 racetracks.

well put my hat in the ring ,me loves running the wheels off the chevelle. The double header format is awesome as those that participated in the proam series have found out.

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Mike, now I wish even more that I lived in Div.6, but I still live in Div. 7 country. :(

However, if you talked with Ron Craft at Rocky Mountain Raceway, I'm sure he'd be interested in your idea, because he's definitely trying to get a greater Stock/Super Stock pressence at his track in Salt Lake City, Utah? How about that...furthermore, I wish you Arizona could possibly be included in your states of interest, since we have three drag strips here, that could be interested in your offerings...I'm not sure about Firebird International Raceway, but Speedworld Motorplex, and Southwestern International Raceway probably would be?

Hey Dion, Gary and Phil,

Thanks guys for your positive response to this new initiative. The timing is right and we are truly excited to get this off the ground.

Dion, if you are looking to drive the wheels off the car, this venue will do it! Looking forward to your participation in 2012.

Gary, thanks for the positive words but "we have to walk, before we can run." The tracks you have named would be great to race at but we have to get this venture "up and running." I look forward to your support and enthusiasm as we grow this effort. If you are looking for a roadtrip in 2012, you are always welcome!

Phil, thanks for your support and be sure to spread the word to everyone in the NW.

Thanks,

Mike Ferstl

Hi Allan,

Thanks for your vote of confidence!

Hopefully a doubleheader in Edmonton and one in Medicine Hat will give you a "local" opportunity to row that new setup.

Look forward to seeing the 55 in action.

How soon would you like to be collecting membership fee's Mike? Also dont forget that Saskatoon raceway does a stock/super stock combo at their season final race that Dave Schaffel promotes, I dont know if that could be tied into the series at all or not there are some div 5 guys out there.

ChevyII 09-10-2011 09:19 PM

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Dion,

If you could take some flyers to the race in Saskatchewan with some of the info that would be great, that's if you are going to attend the race.

As far as membership fees for 2012, I would offer a break on membership if members signed up before December 1, 2011. The fee would be $90 prior to Dec. 1, 2011 and $100 beginning Dec. 2, 2011.

In addition, if members were able to drive "partnership" $$$ towards the association, I would be open to providing some type of reciprocal incentive. For example, if someone's business wants to be the title right holder to the race, say Lucas Oil is the title right holder to the first Edmonton double-header weekend, the asscociation would provide "X" amount of tickets for Lucas Oil's customers for that weekend.

Give it some thought as I am sure Power Chief Auto Body could use some way to reward their customers.

Cheers!

Possibly, because I'm embracing competition for my meager racing dollar, since I think it's outrageous that here in Div. 7 they charge $165 for a national open, when in Div. 5 it costs $80-100 bucks! What you offer is fair for the dollar, but when no points or contingency money is up for grabs at a national open, Div. 7 is really being unfair to its racers, for the benefit of the pros who get money from corporations (in most cases)! Perhaps I'll make another move in D6's direction, and I'll definitely be in if I do. Otherwise, I'll hope that NHRA will realize that the economy is hurting their racer participation (only 5 Super Stock entries, and 11 stock entries including me, thus far for the upcoming Arizona Nationals), and we sportsman racers could use a break in our cost, when we're the one's (primarily) paying the bills for NHRA...they should make the pros bear the increased insurance cost, instead of passing it on to us, when we're not the ones who caused the claims they have to deal with in most cases anyway!

That is why I'll do my best to embrace any options (like this one), for my racing dollar because we're being taken advantage of out here (as is D1, but they can probably afford it since they don't have to travel much for their whole div. layout), and it isn't fair!

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Gary,

I hear you as well as all of the other racers as I too am a racer....

One of the reasons why we are offering this deal to racers is to offer good value for the $$$ you are paying out!

It's unfortunate racers are having to pay the fees they are for the little return. Add the travel cost, hotels and any other incidentals and you have a negative sum return.

We are trying to provide a good alternative and create some fun!

Again, thanks for your feedback!!!

Mike you started this while I was headed to Medford just seen it at lunch time. There was tallk about this at Medford with some fellow racers here out of the greater Seattle area, look foward to this have always supported the local assocation in the area S/ST and S/G in the past now have a stocker would be thrilled with more assocation races. How about the new track down by shelton for a race it has no sactioning body that I know of yet alot of people I would think show to check out the new track. If you are going to Woodburn this weekend bring some info for the racers.
Thanks for doing this.

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Larry and James,

Thanks for your words and support of a program of this nature

We are excited to put together a series for the Stock and Super Stock racers in the region. Definitely some value for the track operators, racers and the fans in the northwest.

Realistically we are looking at 4-5 venues and 4-5 doubleheader races in 2012 to kick this program off all working around the NHRA and IHRA 2012 race schedule.

NOW, I need racers, track operators and series supporters to get serious about this deal if I am to commit myself and my team to run this deal in 2012.

How many of you would be willing to SUPPORT the program today, sign up and pay the $100 membership fee AND/OR provide support to the program with partnership $$$?

In addition, I need your support in recruiting the following;

SERIES Headline Sponsor

If your business would like to be a headline sponsor for a 8-10 race series, send me a proposal with details and what you would value such a series to be worth.

Individual RACE or Doubleheader weekend sponsor

Same type of proposal with details outlining what you feel such a race would be worth at your home track.

In return, I will provide the following;

1) Tech official(s)

2) Series schedule, venues and rules structure

3) End of year series payout to TOP 5 racers

4) Race series coordination of points

5) Series Newsletter

Now, who wants to step up for 2012?

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Will you have a payout per race or just at the end of season? The $100.00 per race is not real cheap for a bracket race in my opinion. What I'm saying is if you make all 5 doubles you'll have $1000.00 in entry fees plus all the extras.

ChevyII 09-13-2011 07:49 PM

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Hi Harry 6674,

Thanks for your reply and interest in our new series!

Each race will have it's own payout and the more racers we have participate in the program, the further back we will pay. I would like to pay back as far as the quarters but that is dependent on racer support and turnout.

In addition, the membership fee gives you a chance at the end of year payouts. If you read my earlier posts, if you join before Dec. 1, 2011 I will provide an early bird discount at $90. Once Dec. 2, 2011 rolls around the fee goes to $100 even.

I find it hard for you to believe a $100 entry fee is steep when you pay over $300 per divisional to sit around for 3-4 days, make 2-3 licks and race once when you can pay $200 per doubleheader over 2 days and race twice!

If you think that is steep, maybe this program is not the right fit for you. I think what we are offering is more than fair, promotes racer participation and gives you another alternative.

In addition, with further sponsorship, I would like to reward best package first round winner and best package first round loser!

Mike Ferstl

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Good morning,

Thanks to all who have replied and offered feedback to this new initiative.

In addition to all we have offered, one of the features we would like to try is to feature one class in Stock and Super Stock with a class elimination.

We will coordinate the class but you the racer will create the hype.

If a group of racers can organize a minimum of 4-5 similar class cars to attend one particular race, we will run them off for a class champion. Tech will weigh and make sure all cars are legal.

For example, G/SA and say GT/CA run off for class at Mission doubleheader

Please give me your CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on such a race within a race.

Re: Attention Division 5 & 6 Stock/Super Stock Racers

Mike,, I understand about walking before you can run, and I don't know which tracks will get involved, but Chris is right about the new track being built in the Shelton area. The last correspondence I had with them, recently, had them asking for any groups or organizations that were looking for 2012 dates. Fortunately, Rod,from The Ridge Motorsports Park, told us that they will be able to run drag races and road races at the same time, as there are 2 separate tracks being completed.
I don't know if they're being flooded with date requests, but it may be worth a look- see, in case you can get a date/dates for next season. You could also contact Bremerton Raceway, as they host various associations throughout the year and host a National Open race too, so they are familiar with stockers and superstockers, many living within the area. My 2 cents. Good luck with your dream.

Mike, the idea sounds great and the horsepower behind your effort seems to be just what the doctor ordered to start a series. Since I do not recall ever bumping into you on the race circuit, I thought I would provide a link to a website with your bio so others can get to know a little bit more about you:

http://canadiandragracer.ca/index.ph...Ferstl/2011/7/

Unfortunately, my schedule this next season will be very limited due to a family situation. However, if one of the combo races finds its way to Spokane, I will definitely support the organization. The association fee and race entry fee do not seem unreasonable. The IHRA fee for the double headers this past season were $135/day. The IHRA National events are still a smoking deal at $150!!!

Good Luck!
