V-10 Drag Pak Challenger help

Can we have a V-10 Drag Pak Challenger thread? I bought one of these and the owners manual is one paragraph long. I think I need more info than that. Tire pressure? Radial slicks or wrinkle wall? Shock settings? Fuel? I'm sure we have lots of questions. I've ran mine 3 times but I don't know if I am doing things right. Here's what I have done. Hoosier D05's screwed to wheel, 11 psi, C-12, launch at 1800, shift at 6900. So far I've got 6.15, 1.38, 114+ mph. It spins alot but I figured that was 800 HP and a 9" tire. Are radials better? I thought radials want to dead hook and I didn't think it would do that with 800 HP so I put on the wrinkle walls. I hope we can help each other.

Perhaps I should have mentioned I'm a bracket racer since it seems some class racers are not fond of these.

I shouldn't have been rude about it. But the idea that anybody can go buy a car with such obviously limited experience in class racing or class racing set-up experience and trounce competitors that have given their life in blood, sweat & tears over might make you see the issue. It's nothing personal, just mis-direction on the part of the sanctioning body.

I'm not a class racer. I race local bracket races. I love cars. I love factory drag cars. I find these new factory drag cars fascinating as I did my 1965 Super Stock Dodge and my 1968 Race Hemi Dart. I'm just glad to see the factorys providing us with these new cars to enjoy. When I was young a Pro Stocker could run high nines. Now you can go down to the local Dodge or Ford dealer and haul off a new car off that will run faster than that off the showroom floor. Who would have thought we would ever get here? All these people talking about the good old days haven't been down to the local dealer. The good old days are today. Going to the bracket races tonight. Probably lose first round, but I will have fun.

These would be the good old $100,000 car days then right ?

Yes, much easier for me to get a $97,000 home equity loan now at age 55 than to come up with $5,000 cash in 1968 for a Dart when I was age 12.

Rick,

In spite of the anger and jealousy that may be displayed, there are some good knowledgeable folks here that will give you some help with your new car.

While I have never even seen one of these cars I don’t think radials would be the way to go in bracket racing. Can you get any larger tire on it?

You have a really cool car I hope you enjoy it.

Good Luck,
Bill Lamb

Thanks. It's really tight under there. I don't think I can get more tire under it.

Radials like a lot of air......and on a fairly heavy car with a lot of power you're probably way to low on air....

10" wide rims and around 18-20 lbs is what I used on a 10 second LT-1 Firebird.....60's as quick as 1.34.

I went to a ten inch rim and radials. Dropped my sixty foot down about .03 and I run about 22 pounds in a 72 Gran Sport.

Yep, in Stock you cant run 10 inchers, but if you are bracketing, with the right offset on the wheels, you "should" be able to get them under your Challey. And then you can work on tire pressure that is best for you.

But no matter what you do, don't expect expect really stellar 60 foot times. These V12 cars simply don't launch like their little brothers, the 5.7, and 6.1. Our 5.7 regularly runs 128 60s. Most 6.4s are still sorting out their 60 foot too.

It is all about managing the torque. And that is a real balancing act. But with a two speed tranny, which never made any sense to me, you either give it up in the 60, or later.

What did you do with the rear wheel package that came on the car ?
The radials like 18 to 21 psi. Have you scaled the car with you in it ?

Send me a PM
