"Live" from our Southwestern Swing

So guys, are you ready to ride along with us? We are starting out in the morning headed to Noble, OK first. Then on to Phoenix national event. Then a little sight-seeing. Then on to Vegas, baby! We plan on running the National event, then staying on for the Divisional. Right now we don't plan on going to Pomona, because after 5 weeks, we will probably be ready to head back to Kentucky.

So stay tuned for pictures of cactus, canyons and cars!

Well, we have been on the road for 2 and a half hours and have gone 61 miles. We are taking the scenic route on US 60 instead of I40 most of the way. And of course, that runs us close to Sikeston, MO where the famous Lambert's Restaurant--Home of the Throwed Rolls. So we had to stop and have lunch. I have pics I will post later. Back on the road again!

Well we drove 370 miles today. All the way to Joplin, MO. It is about 230 more to Noble, so we should be there by noon or so. The flyer says they don't start parking til 3. Do they usually wait til then? Here are a couple of shots from today:

Cotten!!! A whole field of it!

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...our2011060.jpg
And this was our first casualty of the trip! The tread came off the trailer tire and blew out. We didn't know it when it happened. A nice guy passed us and kept pointing. He pulled over when we did and came back and said he thought our trailer was on fire! Thank goodness it was only the tire! So by the time Larry changed the tire and then we stopped in Springfield, MO and bought 2 more (just in case), we lost a couple of hours today.

Hopefully tomorrow will go better and I will get some shots at the racetrack for you.

Oh, we passed a little convenience store that it looks like Bo Kenney might own. It was called the "Kum and Go"!

Well we are back on the road this morning. A beautiful blue sky, a little windy, trees are starting to turn color. I missed the "Welcome to OK" sign while I was looking up something on the computer. Oh well, there will be other states! We are on the Will Rogers Turnpike, but we didn't see the humor in the $16.50 toll! Well more later.

We're here, we're here, we're here!!! We got passed by Mike Walters just a flying somewhere this morning! Looks like anybody who is in the running for points is here this weekend. We rode around a little and saw a bunch of Div. 5 guys here. Hagberg, Siebert, Johnson and we were told Scott Burton would be here later. Then Irvin Johns is parked right next to us. Oh if you want to come visit, we are outside the gate along the road so after it rains, we can hopefully drive out (or at least be easy to pull out with the tow hooks on the front). This morning the weather forecast was not looking too good. Maybe even up to 5 inches of rain in spotty areas. Hopefully this won't be one of the spots. I took a few pics that I will post a little later. Got to get everything set up now.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing

It has been a nice, relaxing afternoon here in Noble. It has been very windy and warm, 85 or so. It doesn't seem to be very many people here. Lots of out of division cars, like us. Others seen this afternoon--the DeFranks, Mick and Jackie Alley (and we thought we drove a long way). 600 miles for us, the Alleys-1500 miles. I don't know just how far it was for the DeFranks. Also here are Bill Rink and Fred Henson.

I guess the weather is keeping some away. Now it is looking ok until Sat. night, then rain and rain on Sunday. But we will just wait and see!

Oh, if I have any of the names wrong, please correct me! Well more tomorrow!

According to www.mapquest.com the DeFranks traveled about
1370 miles to get to Noble, OK.

Larry and Patsy, I'm glad you're coming out west, and I look forward to finally meeting the two great people who made last year more tolerable for me by being able to follow your travel ventures then, while I wasn't racing much. Have fun in Noble, and stay safe in your travels...btw we have Cracker Barrel and Black Bear Diner restaurants here too!
