Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
Good morning - There is good news and bad this morning as the test n tune planned for today may be a bit soggy .I haven't left yet but will soon as it looks like I shouldn't hurry because of the rain falling at this moment .I'm fifty miles from the track but the storm is coming up the East Coast and is to last part of today and tomorrow in the AM .
This afternoon there should be periods of Sun before another front moves in according to the Philadelphia weather channel. OK , I'll throw in some good news - the weekend looks like a winner as we're to have plenty of sunshine and temps near seventy . I'll update again once I arrive at Maple Grove ........and please - no egg throwing or mooning as I'm only the messenger ! ! ! ! |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
Well I've arrived - parked and going to tech .I can't believe it but the place is crowded - at least where I'm at .And get this its not raining - believe it or not and hasn't for the past two hours .And they are drying the track as I type - maybe the day isn't lost after all .
Later I'll post some pics and info if available .......... |

Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
About 3 pm they gave up for the day, it just ain't happening, drizzle etc. They had us ready and then more drizzle.
We are cooking lasanga in the motorhome and fixing my broke trans from indy in the trailer. A little of everything goin' on in the pits. |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
Good morning - Rigs are rolling in at a rapid pace this morning - a really good sign - I just don't know where they are going with them .Maybe the grass pits are better than I thought .
Overcast and a bit breezy this AM best describes things - but no rain and hasn't since around 2 this morning. The ground is wet and I'm not hearing the Jet on the track - they must know more than me about what is coming---another front is to come thru early this afternoon and after that we have clear sailing thru the weekend - we'll see . Back in a bit with the latest .......... |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
9:30 and the jets are rolling on the track.
They usuall wont waste the fuel unless they are fairly confident of running some cars. |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
The rain has returned, there is a bunch of scattered rain cells that are going thru, I am crossing my fingers for this afternoon. The paved sections of the pits are full, they are putting rigs on any dry spot, there is still room, have not seen anyone stuck
I knew when we left tues night that we could be seeing alot of rain, but we arestill enjoying ourselves, Lotsa laughs and good food at the LaBrecque motorhome last evening. |

10:40 update - We were minutes away from starting when the skies opened up - even if it stopped it would be hours to dry the track again and with more coming this afternoon any racing today is not looking possible .............

Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
Tonight the rain moved out - its dry here for a change .The biggest difference now is the temperature took a plunge - brrrrr - chilly tonight for sure - lows in the high forties.
But along with these changes are some good ones --- like the barometer has jumped .50 in the last few hours and is expected to continue climbing right into tomorrow .The Hemi and American Muscle guys ( not to mention everyone else ) will like these changes for sure . In the morning much of the humidity thats hanging around should be gone and the go-fast weather will kick-in .Yippeeeeeeeee .............. Dinner tonight was at the LaBrecque / Diamond RV compound - Shepards Pie , Breaded Sea Scallops ,Cajun Shrimp, Sliced Ham ,Beef Stew , deep fried vegetables and more .All this plus several kinds of cakes and pies served with fresh brewed coffee and adult beverages .Thanks Marc and Joanne ..........I should take a very long walk before bed .........Nah ! ! ! Start engines at 8:30 sharp with Stock out first ........... |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
Nah why walk after that dinner you'l just need to take a few pounds out of the weight box and you'll be right back on weight. LOL See you tomorrow.

Good morning -- Finally ! ! ! The Sun is coming up and we will get started today .And even though we're two days late everyone is chompin' at the bit to get on the Maple Grove quarter mile .
Temps this morning are on the chilly side as they are in the fifties at this time but will climb well into the sixties later .The barometer is still climbing and is now at almost 29.70 with the humidity very high @ 67% but will burn off this morning . They are saying we are to have windy conditions with gusts up to 40 mph later this morning . Gates are now open and rigs are moving in as tech is to be open from 8 to 9 this morning only . Just saw a guy walk by in shorts - I don't think so today ............ Haven't heard the Jet running yet this AM but it's still early . Back in a bit - going for a walk to see what's going on ........and maybe lose an ounce ot two of last nights' feast .......later . |

A few early morning shots ........It's start engines time .............
One other odd thing - some have the barometer @29.20 while others have it at 29.65 - not sure which is right .........can't be that big of a difference . |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
One is observed (station pressure) other is correct to sea level?

Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
It's a beautiful day here at the Grove.
Usually we call a day like this, after two rainy days at the track ,Monday! The jets are running Tech is open and there are cars everywhere. Maby I can get them to run the drier over my pit spot ,which is usually a very solid spot, but has turned into a river bed after yesterdays storms! 8:50AM and they just called Stock to the lanes/ __________________ Tom Goldman 1500 SG , 1506 STK |

Stock made their first pass and its anything but fast - 81 made the call .Americn Muscle had 6 come out early - three Mustangs and 3 Challengers with Don Fizell and Steve Ficacci both going 9.39's .Barton led the Mopar guys with a fine 9.53 - they'll be back again .
The DA is @ 1600 plus but with a headwind and no barometer any go fast ideas are in the dumper ............ |

Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
The Barometer is much lower than average for this track at this time of year, the traction has been ok, not great, but i believe it is just that we need more track temp, they have done a great job grooming it. The hemi shootout ran 1st rd and there were a few redlights(Daniels for one) and some shut off runs, no real good side by side runs. both sr and jr are still in, sr had the bye. The cross wind is strong enough that they are running top and comp 1/8th mile. They also ran the muscle car shootout, 6 cars and there were some 9.30's
generally it is 50/50 sun and clouds, nice fall windy day |
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
Can someone post a qualifying sheet for Stock/Superstock? Thanks!
|
Re: Live from the 40th annual "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"
TV always uses corrected to Sea Level not Station Pressure whitch is actual for you are at if your Baro was set correct. When you call NOOA you should always ask for actual station pressure not corrected to sea level!
