Heard they are coming back to NHRA w just a divisional for the time being then a National in the near future. NHRA wants to get a race in the Virgina, DC Area again.

Heard today VMP will be a NHRA division 1 track and have the first race of the year in the spring.
They may also get a national open or a sportsnats type event with Pro mods and Pro stocks.

I guess putting VMP in Division 1 makes some sense, although Virginia was part of "Buster's Rebel's" for the longest time!

Now it's 1 track in Virginia and 1 in Delaware.:)

being at VMP for the world finals brought back eerie memories of 2006 IHRA World Finals at Norwalk.
When the red carpet is rolled out and the car count is up, you could almost smell change in the air around vmp.

I was told by Jim Collins the NHRA Div.2 Tech Director that Virginia Motorsports Park would be an NHRA Div. One track in 2012 and will have a Div. One points race.

Wow, and to think IHRA just had their World Finals just 2wknds ago, and then this pops up in less than a week afterwards....kind of sounds like a slap in the face to IHRA from VMP to me....

No slap IHRA was moving to Memphis anyway.

Has anyone heard when a 2012 schedule will be posted by IHRA? The silence is deafening!

Re: vmp next year?

Hopefully IHRA doesn't drag their feet like last year with the schedule. I know the NHRA Divisional schedules usually come out in mid-november but, last years IHRA National Event Schedule didn't really come out till like December and the Divisional Schedule in January / Feb.

I think they have to wait till VMP get's done their 2011 schedule for NHRA to announce anything or whenever the "official" contract is done. If everyone remembers from last year VMP was going to come over to NHRA then but, IHRA still had them under contract and wouldn't let them out of it. Time to start the WAIT & SEE process

If IHRA was smart, they would wait until NHRA's schedules are out, then make theirs, to prevent conflicting dates! I know it's not always possible, but don't schedule a race the same weekend as an NHRA race in the same division, which has happened each of the last two years!

Good point but the only problem is alot of the racers will say they already planned out their schedules and can't afford or have the time to attend both races.

Bryan is right, I mean the Dutch & VMP World finals have been on the same weekend for the past 3 years. Add onto Atco & Numidia have huge bracket races on the same weekend every year, makes it kind of hard to be in multiple places at once and have good car counts. Hopefully IHRA was pleased with the turn-out at VMP and will do the Sportsman Race next year at MIR.

I'm not saying you guys are wrong about that just not sure it would really make that big of a difference and there are other things they must consider also such as track schedules, bracket finals, etc. I don't believe they schedule against some of these events on purpose atleast I hope not. In the end I don't believe they would gain many more cars if any.

There's more to it. This move has been brewing for more than a year.

Didn't I hear that the Dutch is going to be a week earlier next year because of a special date...? 50 th .... That may help, the conflict in 2012 .... But I agree with Bryan , there can be better planning ......

BKSG1198 10-27-2011 08:36 PM

Re: vmp next year?

The Dutch was moved up a week this year from the past few years. The Keystones are Oct 4th to 7th next year so they can't move it up any more.

Re: vmp next year?

Not for nothing but, moving the Sportsman Spec to Memphis is a smart move. Even if it's the same weekend as the Dutch not to sure how many people are going to make the trip to Tennessee from up in the Northeast Region. Having it closer to a central location really helps out the guys with traveling from out in the Utah, Arizona areas that may hit for a "win and your In" deal and be like I'm not driving to Virginia. No doubt Royce and the boys at MIR are going to have one in the middle of the year for the guys up in the Northeast...date TBA.
