Aluminum or plastic fuel cell ?

Stocker project going to the chassis shop to have a rollcage and 5 gallon fuel cell installed. Should I use an aluminum or plastic cell? Any input appreciated.

From all that I have read on here from racers, most have indicated aluminum. Like you, I just dropped off mine at the chassis shop and gave the builder an aluminum cell.

I've had alot of problems with the plastic cells leaking around the outlet fittings.

You have to watch out for this on aluminum cells also, some do not have the bungs welded in.
Check before you buy, but still buy aluminum.

That's funny Chris...I had a tech guy tell me the same thing one time! We just ended up grounding it so he felt better inside. lol!

i guess bolting it directly to the chassis isn't a good ground, lol

Heartland Park, and KCIR made a big deal about the cell not being grounded. I asked why, and it was because there is a gasket between the fill opening and the tank? The fill opening and the tank are bolted together, but whatever. I now have a ground wire so that they feel better!

I completely understand if it is a plastic cell but not an aluminum one.

I also got "busted" for not having my aluminum cell grounded..... I don't like to cave to nonsense but, I also like to spend my time racing... I put a wire on it.... 8>)

Thanks for info, going with an aluminum cell w/ ground wire.

Is there an advantage on aluminum cell vs. the plastic? Just curious
