"Live" from Hagerstown,MD - Lee Sherman Memorial Stock/Super

Today after a easy ride down Route 81 thru Pennsylvania into Maryland I arrived at the very pretty facility - Mason-Dixon Dragway .What a perfect time for a race - cool crisp air combined with the Fall folliage changing colors .

And did I mention my shadow coming here? Best as I tell my friend - Marc La Brecquec- has not had enough racing this year yet because it was pretty easy to talk him into coming here and its no short tow from New England to here .Hope he enjoys this weekend 'cause Monday he'll pay for it .And after 15 or so inches of snow last weekend you'd think he would just stay home and rest ......nah ! !

I'm told this is the 17th annual Lee Sherman Memorial race .....and for those of us who knew Lee .......well , I just hope he's watching as he'll surely enjoy the show both days .We still miss you buddy .

Tommorow we'll have race one and some great test n tune for Sunday .......stay tuned .

Nice Job Kenny! What a fun day, my Altalab showed the air at -405' at one point. Thanks to Elmer & Kathy Wachter for letting us make all the runs we made yesterday in the "new" AMX. Strong AMC presence here with more coming in today for the Main Events. Where are you Eddie no Kitchen Pass???

Just got home a few minutes ago. What an awesome weekend. We had a total of 73 cars, of racers from eight different states, over the two days. 66 were on the grounds today, 63 ran first round. Both 73 and 63 are best ever totals for me. Larry Jewell won the big money ($2,100) in his tri-power SS/DA '67 Corvette. Runner-up, taking home a cool $1,000, was Larry 'Bunk' Miller, in his SS/FA single-4 '70 Barracuda. I had hoped to have full round-by-round results tomorrow, as well as final points totals. However, after taking the winners circle pics with Larry and Larry, we left our clipboards there with all the stats. Hopefully Elmer can send them to me and I can post them soon.

Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend. Hope you had as much fun as we did!

LOL.....Good one Vic. Im heading out this morning (Mondays and Thursdays) on about a 200-250 mile Harley ride for lunch and Im about the youngest one of the bunch. I almost came up to Mason Dixon but theres to much going one here AND its warm and sunny. Taking my '35 Chev street rod coupe to several car shows and rod runs this month and the "Turkey Trots" at Daytona BUT.....I am still looking for another race car to play with to take up my down time. Cant seem to get into the nap routine like you guys in the frozen North. I sure hope Charley "BOB" was pulling everyones leg about the 1980 or newer cars only in NHRA stock for the sake of guys like you. Take care.

Once again you folks got ditched last night as I took the Winners Circle photos and hit the road so I wouldn't get home in the middle of the night .As you already know Larry Jewell ( in his extra sharp Corvette SS/DA ) took home the big money last night with a well deserved win along with the RU Bunk Miller ( in his equally sano early Challenger SS/FA ) as both drove well all day .......Congrats to both ! ! !

One of these days the boss is going to doc me for posting Mondays...............Or maybe my Christmas bonus will be a little short - or God forbid late also.

Always wanted to visit but can't seem to find the time...maybe NEXT year? Looks like a great time to be had there!

BTW...does anybody know which track is more "downhill"...Mason-Dixon or Maple Grove?

Larry Hill 11-07-2011 10:45 AM

Re: "Live" from Hagerstown,MD - Lee Sherman Memorial Stock/S

Earlville Iowa 1% down hill or 13.2 '. The race in the fall is always a good one.

Hey Mike sorry didn't make it this weekend. Everybody seems to of had a great time have to put that in the race schedule for next year. Question thought what is pure stock?

Mike Carr 11-07-2011 01:36 PM

Re: "Live" from Hagerstown,MD - Lee Sherman Memorial Stock/S

Pure Stock is IHRA-only classes. More restrictive than regular stock. Camshaft must check on lift, duration and overlap. Valve spring pressure must remain OEM. If you use headers, you must run mufflers, and other such rules. Several street-legal cars run Pure Stock at my races, and one (Steve Klacik) won an IHRA Divisional race last year.

skills 11-07-2011 01:46 PM

Re: "Live" from Hagerstown,MD - Lee Sherman Memorial Stock/S

If they blended pure stock into nhra wouldn't that help to get more people in even if just on a divisional level. People who might want to run stock but don't have the 100g.
