New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
This does not sound good for the racers. Read the article.

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
NHRA. It's all about the money.
The good news is, they don't have to pay the banner fee, not all of them put banners up. Since they're doing that, they should make the cost of a spot on the "manufacturer's midway" optional as well. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
They obviously haven't learned that revenue is tied to # of happy customers, not raising fees. Ask Netflix, B of A, etc etc. If they simply managed costs in the right areas it would cover the gaps but the suits don't understand the basics of business, sounds like the Obama syndrome, fly around like fat cats and expect others to pay for it.
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
I personally believe that this is a misguided attempt for NHRA to generate more money that is destined to back fire. I could be wrong. I would seem to make more sense to bring new sponsors on board rather that increasing fees for current supporters.
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
How long until they start to charge us for any banners we display in our pit areas, trailer signage, signage on race cars, or even...the contigency decals.
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Bill, I am surprised they even allow any banners in the sportsman pits at national events at all. I would not be at all surprised to see them crack down on all displays in the pits, everywhere.
They're getting more greedy every single day. Greed kills everything it infests, sooner or later. I think we may be looking at sooner, rather than later. Racers, support your local tracks, and your local combo races, it may be where a lot of your racing is done in the future, maybe all of it. It may even be where your next racing series comes from. Think about it. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
All they are doing is driving sponsors away which hurts use all in the long run.
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
The greed just keeps getting worse and worse. The people on the NHRA board do not care about the sport, the racers or the manufacturers. All they care about is lining their pockets.
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
got news... they already "discourage" advertising / sales in the sportsman pits... ask MJ
anyway the sooner this ship sinks the better for us...then maybe SOMEONE (hint pat / alex etc.) would put together some decent races (with technical inspections, protests etc.) and we could race and support ourselves with the money not a bunch of leeches in glendora. captain |

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Thats easy for the venders.......Unite and stop all forms of advertizing, with NHRA in dragster or sponsoring.... we as racers know where to go if there is something is needed, (for the most part)
Racers and Venders need to look at what those other two demostration orgs. are doing. Making point known ! |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Remember when they banned sportsman racers from selling their car/team shirts off the back of the trailer. It was quite a while ago.Even the pros have to sign a contract to sell their merchandise.
These idiots could teach the Mafia some tricks of the trade. They're shameless. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Well, well, well, apparently NHRA gives no quarter to whom they're willing use to refill their coffers. Everyone knows the answer, the way to make NHRA sit up and pay attention however no ones willing to take steps toward it.

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Well lets see.....stands are half full....number of.racer entrys half what they where just a few years ago....entry fees raised across the board....new fees for chassi inspections new helmets hans devices sfi certs on trans cases and on and on.....now lets squeeze the sponsor which are half what they were a few years ago...some just hanging on in this economy.......These enhancments are on pace to kill the goose that has layed the golden egg for the glendora gang......Grow the business don't chase the racer(customer) and sponsors away...A NEW BUSINESS MODEL IS IN NEED HERE NOT ANOTHER FEE ON THE RACER OR SPONSOR (YOUR CUSTOMER?)....THE FANS HAVE ALL READY SPOKEN.....LOOK AT YOUR STANDS OR YOUR ESPN RATINGS

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
I think they are grasping for straws now. If they are going to institute this new "idea" they maybe should have given notice that effective for the 2012 season "this is what the situation is gonna be".---give any interested manucacturers/suppliers/mail order companies etc. the opportunity to opt out if they so choose---- otherwise you are going to be charged X dollars to put up a banner in the future---I really wonder what would happen if Jegs/Summit/Moroso whoever if they put up a banner or banners WITHOUT paying the $6500---What is the NHRA gonna do about it???? Jegs or Summit could decide they do not want to be the title rights sponsor for the Sports or Bracket series now what is NHRA gonna do ??? Who ya gonna get to put up that kinda money??? Most large companies have already finalized their advertising budgets for 2012 so there really is not a lot of room to threaten a sponsor cuz ya just can't get a replacement in a moments notice.
As far as a removal expense that just does not exist . If you notice when the races are over the racers and others are out cutting them down as fast as they can. Yes some of the smaller banner advertisers retrieve their banners but most just walk away from them not worth trieng to save them they are either damaged or not worth the effort to do it. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Yeah, the "removal costs" are hilarious. When fights break out among fans cutting the banners down on their way out.
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Do I understand this right? A. Sponser X pays to sponser NHRA events. and then B. Has to pay a second time to put a banner up so everybody knows they sponsered it. Then C. has to pay a third time to pay to take down the banners that were stolen by the vultures on the way out the gate sunday night. I see why some of you guys get so frustrated. Maybe its a good thing my stocker project was destroyed by the tonado last may.

“Some of our sponsors who have a significant investment in the sport sometimes feel that a company can come in on a lesser degree of investment with a contingency program and have those bannering rights and for those sponsors, it’s a big tilt on the value equation,” Darcy explained.
Meaning what? Jegs and Summit are or arent getting special treatment? If I spent the money they did with NHRA, this could be considered a slap in the face! Talk about pissing off your best customers, damn. Wade O |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Gary Darcy, NHRA senior VP of marketing says:
“There was no strong push back on it,” said Darcy, of the group’s reaction to the bannering reassignment. “This should not come as a big surprise and had been discussed. We openly sought input within the committee.” “Some of our sponsors who have a significant investment in the sport sometimes feel that a company can come in on a lesser degree of investment with a contingency program and have those bannering rights and for those sponsors, it’s a big tilt on the value equation,” Darcy explained. LOL, He said "some" of our sponsors and "sometimes feel" in the same sentence...LOL.. In my conclusion: Some of the sponsors don't like the other small guys...So, they are willing to pay the money to put up banners to bluff the small guys out... Did NHRA ever do a feature on Ray Skillman and the 1 million dollars he put down for kids to play sports in Indiana... NHRA has some balls thats for sure.. http://www.ibj.com/ray-skillman-give.../article/28384 |

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Well the Diet Pepsi came out of the nose! PAAC, Performance Aftermarket Advisory Committee!.....another phantom advisory board? Didn't Big Brother use the same acronym (PAAC) when they dumped on S SS some new program last spring?
Nobody on this board was aware of it or who was on it. Now Jeg's is caught off guard? If they aren't on the PAAC, who is? Similar to phantom surveys we keep hearing about no one has participated in. Wow! These guys must stay up at night studying NetFlix business model. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
The writing is on the wall for NHRA. First of all they keep raising the insurance to enter a national event, now $95 per event. Second, they have half the fans and half the entries from prior years. Third, they keep adding other classes to make up the difference of low car counts, this all started when they cut out one sportsman class per event. Forth, the economy is in the tank because of the socialist nut cases in the white house so no one can afford to race or go watch. Look at division 2 with the 10, 11 & 12 sec classes. We got pro belt sanders and pro ET and pro jr dragster ... what is next? Now they are talking about cutting alcohol classes at divisionals ... so NHRA gouges us, now gouging the sponsors, the pros are lucky to get any sponsorship. Maybe next year a AA/SA car will be able to qualify for TF because there will only be 10 or 12 show up ..

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
NHRA seems to be a lot like the federal government.
They think they have a revenue problem. What they really have is a spending (SALARY) problem. Instead of creating more customers, they intend to charge more fees to fewer customers. Their business/marketing plan is not a good one. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
wonder if we were to pay the banner fee we could put up our own banners. Any suggestions what they might be or say?
|
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Does any one know any one on the Performance Aftermarket Advisory Committee!..... They seem to be the blame of all that is bad at NHRA. Its' not our fault the Performance Aftermarket Advisory Committee!..... said it was a great idea.
I just heard the Performance Aftermarket Advisory Committee!..... thinks the NHRA board should be a voluteer position. Lets see if NHRA goes with that plan. |

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
Alan, though their strategy does seem to be flawed, there's no denying it does work at least to some degree. If the place I worked treated our customers like this we would certainly be in trouble our customers would simply go elsewhere. That being said we Do have choices though many wouldn't even entertain the idea of possibly racing say with IHRA, or your local Stock S/S series. Heck I'm considering all options. I've enjoyed racing both I&N both have their positives and negatives. Heck may even throw together some junk in the corner and simply bracket race. Never raced to try to make any money at it it's simply recreational for me, however at some point I have to decide just how much I'm willing to spend on a hobby. Joe

While our struggles this year are a small factor, we decided over the winter that we'd support the combo races, even if it meant we might skip "the tour". We went to Bowling Green for the points race, and Kevin went to Reynolds. He went to the open at Bowling Green as well, but that's really our home track, and besides, NitroPlate and Bowling Green had a $5K to win combo race there that Saturday night. We spent most of the year at combo races. We'll do that again next year. I'm hoping we can improve significantly on the 26 car field we had at Jackson Sunday, and the 66 car field we had at Bowling Green two weeks ago. We hope to have some bigger money combos at both tracks in 2012. We are almost certain to have the $5K to win combo Saturday night at the Bowling Green open, and possibly as many as 4-5 others between the two tracks. At Jackson, I saw David Glidewell walk the staging lanes and personally thank every class racer he was able to get to, and that was most every one in attendance. Not many tracks will guarantee a $1K purse for a $50 entry fee when 15 cars show up. David Glidewell did it all year, and he and NitroPlate did it Sunday when they paid $2K to win for a 26 car field at a $50 entry fee. Racers, come race with us in Jackson TN and Bowling Green KY for the combo races in 2012. I guarantee you'll be treated like a treasured customer, and you'll be paid the full purse for your finishing position. Bowling Green even has a points fund, and they do pay the points winner as promised. Fans, you need to come see these races. You will see a show, and it will be worth your time and money if you are a class racing fan. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
WOW, this really stinks! Less banners = less wallpaper for my new garage! I usually have to craft a master plan to get them. The good ones are gone as soon as they go up! Removal fee give me a break. lol E

LOL Whatever will the banner collectors do now ?? I go to the NMRA event in Bowling Green, KY every year, and on Sat. night as soon as it starts getting dark it's fun trying to guess which person walking by will attenpt to cut the wire ties and make off with one. They all have a certain walk and look to them. Honest. It's almost comical when you can predict who is going to grab one ! LOL |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors

It takes 20 entry fees to pay just the $1K to win, never mind the rest of the purse, and David Glidewell has done it every single time. The track has been improved every single time, more paving, more gravel, you name it. Jackson, by the way, was run with IHRA classes and indexes Sunday. |
Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
the glendora gang are in desperation mode big time right now evidently, there really will be a time soon when these guys finish busting out nhra and there will be nothing left, i really did not think it would come so soon but it appears it will, these guys are in a panic, if they are coming up with this stuff, really a fing shame

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors
As much as it may pain me, i must say that the NHRA powers that be have crapped in their mess kit! They have financially assaulted the racer for the last 8 years and now have managed to reduce the racer participation to 1/3 of what it once was. Realizing they have squeezed racers to the breaking point they now turn to their sponsors. The sponsors for the most part have sat back and watched what has been done to the racer with little comment, even added to the insult by not paying the contingency monies promised to the racer. There are sponsors who have always been on the up and up such as Jegs, Nitroplate, Summit, MoPar, Ford and one of the smartest former sponsors, Turbo Action who saw the hand writing on the wall many years ago and dropped NHRA like a stone! NHRA has now possibly created the perfect storm, racers are not happy, and now a lot of sponsors are not happy! This, I have no doubt, will only be the tip of the iceberg. What the big wheels of these NHRA sponsor companies should be asking themselves is WHY? Why does NHRA feel the need to assault them now? Does the NHRA Board see that the gravy train they have been riding on for years is coming to an end and they need to pad the mattress before this whole thing blows up in their faces and they have to find a real job somewhere? One thing that all involved in our sport seems to agree on is that the unmitigated greed that defines Glendora can not continue! If I were the CEO of one of these big sponsor companies I would be looking hard and long as to the reasoning the NHRA greed machine has turned on them.
I have been a member of the NHRA for over 40 years and I see the NHRA circling the drain due to mismanagement. Shame on you Tom Compton. You have screwed the racer, you have screwed your employees, you have screwed the fans and now you are screwing the sponsors of my beloved sport! My sport! Not your sport! You don't race! Jim Support your local S/SS Associations!! . . |
