Reusable oil filter

Looking for feedback on the Professional Products billet reusable oil filter. Anyone using it and if so what are the pros and cons? No matter how hard I try it seems like I can't avoid spilling some oil on the headers when removing the filter. This looks like a better way...

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

After looking at their site, it sounds like a hastle to clean the filter after every race.

Not big fan of professional products quality, if you want reusable filter spend a little more and get a System One filter.

Professional Products is pretty much a company that makes Chinese knock offs of the products of other companies, with rather suspect quality. Not something I'd want on a race car, especially not in the oiling system of an engine.

I use the System One filter. It is simple to remove and clean. real nice to check on the internals in the engine. no more cutting stock type filters. I lost 2 engines due to elcheapo AC filters. The internals in the filter colapsed and cut off the oil. No more regular filters for me. I highly recommend the System One filter.

Re: Reusable oil filter

For anyone who has never had filter collapse(spelling) the most usual sympton is oil pressure drops to about half of what engine normally holds then if you bring rpm up it goes to zero.
If using throw away use racing or hp type

Moroso makes a screen that lays in top of filter (chevrolet) there's another company that makes some for other applications can't think of brand name, but these screens work really well for keeping eye on engine without cutting filter apart.

They will show particles of stuff you will never see by cutting filter apart and inspecting,if you've ever used O'berg style filter they are like that, but just lay in top of spin on filter.

Wix has a good reputation, and the 51258 that I use has a 19 micron filtration rating, 345 psi burst strength. What degree of filtration do the cleanable filters have?

I've been using these, almost exclusively since the early 70's.I've never had a an oiling issue. But then I've never owned one of those big money, high compression, high horsepower racing doohickey motors.
Also almost always used Pennzoil oil since before then.

I prefer the Moroso screen. I have a System one sitting on the shelf collecting dust. If your collapsing filters your running too much pressure, too thick an oil, and disabled the filter bypass. I also prefer the Fram filters with the gripping surface we remove them after each day to look at the screen. With our headers you can remove the filter , move it sideways, and use a mirror [or a second set of eyes ] to look at the screen without twisting the filter out and spilling the oil all over the headers. I reuse filters about 6 times. ----Thanx Trevor

System one is the only way to go. I've been using them for 14 years and never an issue easy to clean and monitor. I usually go 20 to 25 runs an oil change. Expensive up front but it more than pays for it self in the long run. Probably could use the Moroso screen with it also if you look at the filter daily!
