Question For You

Is Jerry Epperson's Plymouth SS/BA car Steve Bagwell's old car? It looks so familiar to me. Jim

Re: Question For You

Don't think it's Bagwell's old car. Jerry use to run brackets with the car at Knoxville Dragway when I raced there starting in the early eighties. He also raced IHRA Super Stock with it during that time. Didn't Bagwell have his car until much later than that?

I believe Bagwell's car went to DeFrank & Cohen - where it was painted the same as their 'famous' Barracuda - and then to Ken Montgomery. I think Ken still has it.

Re: Question For You

Philbilly I remembered racing with him in the early eighties at Knoxville and don't doubt he's had it even longer. Jerry deserves credit for maintaining/updating it at a very high level. Impressive what he has done compared to some of the highly funded Hemi car owners over the years.

Seems like his brother played a big role in the car but afraid I don't remember his name.

Re: Question For You

Thanks guys, it's just that Jerry's car LOOKS so much like Steve's car and I have some very fond memories of the old girl from back in the day. Steve and I were very good friends back then. In fact Terry and I still live within miles of each other, as we did when we were boys still living at home. But I digress. Thanks for the info. Jim

Oh and congrats to you again Phil, Jim is still on cloud nine!!;)

I actually have the honer to drive Jerrys cars. The sweetest rides I have ever drove. He has 2 of them now, twins. One he has owned for 39 years, the other for 18 years. Jerrys brother Danny that helps him out just happens to be my dad. Lol

DEFranks early car was a 64 Dodge, I took some pics of it at the 84 Gators.

Ralph Crosswhite the hard working and talented brother of Tank built that car

Yes, DeFrank had the '64 Dodge 330 that Rick Johnson now has, but I'm 99% sure that he also had Bagwell's '64 Plymouth for a short while. If this isn't the case, the '64 Plymouth that Ken Montgomery has or had is painted just like the '68 Barracuda and the '64 Dodge that DeFrank had.
And yes, I know that Ken has had his '65 Plymouth since new. The '64 is an automatic and not a stick like the '65.

Re: Question For You

Ralph buit both of Jerrys cars, he is a very very talented chassis builder. Ralph and Tank put together some amazing race cars.

Re: Question For You

Sorry I didn't remember your Dad's name, know he was instrumental in the cars, maybe drove a bracket Daytona they built as well? In any case I knew Ralph did nice work based on Tank's rides but had no idea he helped build your cars. My best to Jerry and your Dad...here is a link to one of my albums, sure they will remember the Dusters and the 63 Plymouth (an ex-Tim Wilkerson ride no less).

This conversation begs the question....The A990 car in the display section at Indy this year, sure looked like the old Bagwell car to me.
