New Camaro Stocker

I had a good look at the "New Chevrolet Camaro Stocker" that was unveiled @ SEMA........Darn thing has consumed a lot of thought since! Just wondering if any are being built? Has Chevrolet told anyone how much $$$$?

Don't hold your breath. Right after the Easter Bunny comes. With Volt fires and all that press, they have alot more pressing issues!

If I had been holding my breath I would have been out of here a long time ago! (I purchased a body-in-white almost three years ago)

Who knows? They didn't stop anything else that I know of because of the volt. (ZL1, etc.)

According to Automotive News, 'a car Chevrolet hopes to homologate for drag racing'. I might need a little help on that word. I heard 50 cars, I heard late next year, I heard about 100k, but then what do I know.

Is that a 1960 Pontiac rear end?

Rusty2211 11-29-2011 05:36 PM

Re: New Camaro Stocker

Hmm...does that thing have a Ford 9" rear end? If it's got an aluminum carrier, will that make that legal in a 69 Camaro for Stock?

Still won't be able to use it, Bob.
What comes in factory ringers, stays in factory ringers...

In your dreams, Pontiac broke more than the bolt in 1960's Chevy style! It is a 1957 FORD style unit.

Should be available with a 5-speed manual, as well. Nothing set in stone yet, but I see a possible naturally-aspirated 427, as well. No word on the intake, so who knows what the final release will have.

Re: New Camaro Stocker

GM cant build them in house like FORD did with the Mustangs . If they are built they have to be built by a second party , cost expected to be 175k . If they could built in house cost is 130k . Thats what the hold up is were are they going to be built .

Submit your name on the web site and they will call you if the think you are serious .

175k is a big number , then you will spend other 30k working on it

I hope they put the 427 in the guide at about 350hp for GT classes. it will be bad *****

They were talking $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 at the PRI. There was a lot of traffic around that car. Several familiar faces.....

Contract hasn't been awarded yet.

I was told the target price is about $100K for the supercharged 327.

Testing on the track is planned for Monday

It's still a case of if they build them, but I would say the chance is much better that it will happen. The Chevrolet guys are pretty pumped about it. They got a ton of hits on their web page and a lot of guys showed-up ready to write checks. From what I saw, I doubt that they would have any problem selling 50 cars.

Re: New Camaro Stocker

You are right about IF and WHEN, Does not mater that the CHEVY guys are pumped up! What really maters is how do the BEAN COUNTERS feel and how much they would have to spend to do this project, it's all about ROI at the end of the day.

You guys kill me. You act like this hasn't been done before,

(1) 150 Mustangs and 50+ Viper powered Challengers have proven that the cars can be sold for a known amount of $$.
(2) Chevrolet enthusiasts outnumber Ford and Dodge by a factor of 2.

The business model is a no brainer.

All Chevrolet has to do is figure out how to build the cars for 75-80K (cost) and a 20% margin is there.
The problem is that Chevrolet has multiple groups vying for control of this thing, I'd say internal politics are a bigger issue.

See you at the races,
Wayne Kerr

Chevy will build the things. Trust me. I have personally made enough bowtie people mad enough with all my cars and antics. A thank you would be in order for the people who like the idea of a new Chevy in competition. A gift certificate from Wal Mart would help. A *^#@ you will probably be in order from those who hate the new cars regardless of brand, and a special 'comment' from the Chevy people who hate the new cars, and I guess the gift certificate is out of the questiion. This should be interesting. Maybe I can move my popcorn order to this thread, as the other seems to have stumbled.

Ed, the good part is the things are mostly gone from A,B etc. A few oddballs like mine, but not many. And with all them Chevy nuts, that thing won't be there long.

Shouldn't even start in lower classes.

They aren't planning to do that. They are aiming at A and AA. I'm sure that not everyone will like the factors, but as Jeff said, I am sure that ego's will sort that out!

hmmm, 16 sec video, seems to "leave" at 8 sec, lifts at finish line (or sooner?), at 16=8?

In watching it, it struck me like, so what?....to me just like a nitrous bracket car going fast...what does it prove? If this is the new paradigm, I'm glad I'm about done.
