Bradenton goes IHRA
Humm, maybe there's more to the story for Orlando having the first D2 race. On the + side hopefully IHRA will have a D2 race there in the spring.

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Maybe this is why the IHRA has been slow to publish the 2012 schedule! This should make next year's winter races more interesting. I'm always glad to have another reason to visit Florida!:)

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Sounds like it might be a good place to have a 4th Sportsman Spectacular race! :)
Florida has a lot of class,.90 and Top cars. I've been surprised and disappointed that the Nitro Jam and divisional at Palm Beach didn't attract more. But hopefully the bigger payouts of a Sportsman Spectacular would. Racers just need to support whatever they end up having or it won't be feasible to have them |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
You guys just won't listen to me will you! I have been talking about this for 6 months! It was confirmed at out SSSSA race 2 months ago. This is good for all sportsman racers. Now maybe some of the NHRA racers will try the IHRA way of racing. I look forward to Bradenton's first Pro-Am. Variety is the spice of life! Jim

I agree.... Always have a great time there.... Will be good to have another IHRA facility in the state... |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
IHRA just posted their D2 schedule....looks like Bradenton will indeed fall on a very good weekend.
Immokalee Regional Raceway * 1/8 Mile February 3-5 Bradenton Motorsports Park 1/8 Mile March 23-25 Carolina Dragway 1/8 Mile May 18-20 Darlington Dragway 1/8 Mile August 31 – Sept 2 |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Lets just hope that the racers support this race at bradenton better than the one at Palm Beach or it will be a one time event. Thay had pretty good attendance at the NHRA points races over the past several years. Bradenton was an IHRA track before but did not always run the points events there.
Lets all come out to the race there and show them that they will attract the racers. This is a good facility and always good traction. |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
My opinion, it will not end up having a great car count. All of the northern racers that Bradenton has attracted the last few years will have gone back north. They come down to get their racing season underway. But coming down and staying thru 3 NHRA division races and the Gators, don't see that happening. They may come for Imm. but that would be it. Economy being what it is, no one can afford this much racing in such a short time. I guess we will see.

I wandered how long it would be before it started raining lol

You mean to tell me that none of these tracks are 1/4 mile facilities? |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Welcome back, Bradenton. I'd like to go to their race, if there's not a Div. 9 race scheduled on top of it. Although in the past, I have skipped a Div. 9 race to go to a Div. 2 double-header 5 hrs further away. If they were on different weekends, I would've gone to both.

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Alex,
Insurance and track prep is cheaper. Plus here in the south most people like 1/8th mile racing. Chip |

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Carolina and Darlington have also run 1/4 mile, but are now usually run 1/8. Besides costs and time, shutdown length might also be a factor for some classes.
Right now, I just want to race and am happy just to have those tracks! |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
IF IHRA wants to attract NHRA racers, racing 1/8 mile points races in not going to help their cause in most cases.

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
1/8th mile vs. 1/4 mile just another excuse for the NHRA racers not to come run a IHRA race. What difference does it make. I understand you like 1/4 mile racing better. I like 1/4 mile racing too. If the races are on the same date, I can understand why you would choose one over the other. What I can't understand is why you would not go if it did'nt conflict with the other?

Oh I love it! Shall we start the "N" versus "I" thread again this winter.

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
I would run 100 ft as long as I was racing.Everyone has there preference, there is nothing wrong with that.It seems there has been a lot of NIHRA racers that have tried IHRA and found it to be a good experience. What is it?, Alot of nhra programs were started in ihra, when nhra comes out with a new (supposedly new idea ) it seems to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but if it is researched most of the time ihra already had it. I myself am happy both sanctioning bodies exist to give racers more options, There has been 1/4 mile races held and I still have not seen (some) of the nay sayers in attendance.

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Chuck I cant argue the budget debate!
I know I was at Montgomery a couple years ago. They made it a 1/4 mile race and nobody came. |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Here's the numbers for IHRA to shoot for...
NHRA Bradenton points meet Feb 2011 had a total of 375 entries. Stock had 43 while S/S had 33. |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
OK you guys, here is the deal.
1st week in February is IHRA divisional in Immokalee, a double race. 2nd week is NHRA divisional at Orlando. 3rd week is NHRA divisional at Gainesville 4th week is a bye week. This is the week that racers from up north are heading down for the Gators 1st week of March NHRA divisional in South Georgia, on the way down to the Gators. 2nd week is the Gatornationals. 3rd week is a bye week. This is when northern racers head back or go to Belle Rose 4th week is the IHRA divisional double at Bradenton. It appears on paper that the car count will not have a lot of northern racers in Bradenton. But there are a lot of class racers in the state of Florida, they should be at Bradenton. If they do not show it is their loss. We will wait and see how many show, I'll see you all there. Ron Ortiz U/SA better have a fat wallet |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
As Chip said, I was at Montgomery the other year. 1/4-mile, and the closest thing going on was Topeka, of which there was like 1-2 "locals" there. Very poor turnout. Palm Beach, 1/4-mile, same. Ashcroft, 1/4-mile same. Div. 4 races, 1/4-mile, same. Lots of blowing smoke, no support.
Div. 9 schedule just came out. Piedmont and Bradenton are on the same weekend, so there goes that. :( Rockingham is the same weekend that Palm Beach's website shows a tentative date for their Nitro Jam. Farmington is on the same weekend that the Martin, MI Nitro Jam has traditionally been. Somebody buy my house already. Centrally located, $75K, property taxes $340/year. Seriously. I need to get moved back up north. :( |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
They wait for NHRA to put schedule out so not to schedule on top of those races. THen they go and schedule on top of their own races makes no sense at all.
Who wands to start an over/under on Bradenton. I will throw a number at you 125 cars. Chip |

Ron, Yall cookin at the races next year??? Hope so. |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
I've run several Div 4 IHRA races. All 1/4 mile. Don't care for NHRA 1/8th mile races either. Done it, just don't care for it. Slower MPH is safer if you like to slam on the brakes, and fewer feet per second makes driving the finish line easier.
Still like stopping in the middle of sex. LOL |

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
As Michael indicated below...but here is the D9 schedule just released...
2012 IHRA Division 9 Summit Pro-Am Tour Schedule Piedmont Dragway 1/8 Mile March 23-25 Coastal Plains 1/8 Mile April 6-7 Rockingham Dragway 1/8 Mile April 27-29 Mooresville Dragway 1/8 Mile June 1-2 Dunn-Benson Dragstrip 1/8 Mile June 22-24 Farmington Dragway * 1/8 Mile August 10-12 |
Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
It's obvious that as sportsman racer's, not everyone can race at EVERY event. So depending on what "turns you on", (because a little sex is better than NO sex - right Ed?) you pick which weekends you're going to be racing. A lot of us won't be racing every week next year, but I'll bet all of us will race every chance we can. I remember when "Buster's Rebel's" Division 2 included races in Virginia and Florida! I'm just very thankful I still have a place to race!!
See you all at Immokalee in February! (919 miles one-way) Lew |

Re: Bradenton goes IHRA
Jim,
I need more than a100',can't put enough gear in back to use all four gears in 100'. When I was a kid I had a go kart geared that low though, yeah that's right my go kart had a stick in it! I hope to at least double my race shedule from last year(one weekend), within 2 weeks of starting the season.Remodel project has drywall hung won't be long now. Hope to head south in the spring and get early start. Mike Taylor 3601 |
