Isn't the heart of IHRA in the carolina's area. It looks like they have no Nitro Jams in there most well supported areas.

And why only 8 races scheduled March thru August? And no races in the Southeast? Did the 3 Sportsman Spectacular's replace Nitro Jam's?

I was really looking forward to racing in at least 1 Nitro Jam, now I'm not so sure!

The wise people at IHRA have once again made sure that they keep car count down at the Pittsburgh race since it is on the same weekend as the NHRA Supernationals in Englishtown. However on a good note. It is the weekend before the Combo in the Hills 2/.90 Nationals and you will be able to drop your trailer or rig at Numidia on your way home.

I've been fussing for months about this. 80% of IHRA racers live within a few hours of Greensboro but the closest NJ race is 600+ miles away.

I was told the reason is no tracks in our area were willing to take the financial risk to put on one of these races.

I can tell you why. Fans here want PRO STOCK-Pro MOD. Fans here want racing and don't give a crap about grace digger racing a rocket powered smart car.

They will put a NJ race in canada because 40,000 people show up.
What I thought was interesting is PBIR not on the schedule for a NJ or a pro-am. HHHMMM

Chip ill never understand why IHRA got away from Pro Stock and Pro Mod. I remember one year in San Antonio at a National they had alot of Pro Mods. I went and looked it up. March 2006 they had 33 Pro Mods at that race. Plus they had Pro Stock and Top Fuel. Now last year I actually liked the Fuel Altereds and Nostalgia Funny Cars(crazy bastards) but they need to bring back Pro Stock and Pro Mod. That said anyone who went to the Nitro Jam in SA last year will tell you it was packed and I mean packed. The place was full and the cars were still lined up on the access road waiting to get in. Ed

I had wondered the same thing, Chip! I guess that PBIR doesn't need help getting folks to come to their races in South Florida. The same scenario happened many years ago when the "Super Chevy Show" was replaced by a local promotion. They still had to turn people away and didn't have to split with Gustin and Co.! I had hoped they would have the same schedule as last year, Immokalee and then Palm Beach (but that's the same weekend as the new Orlando Speedworld NHRA Division 2 race!) Can't be in two places at the same time!:(

And I also realized that the Pittsburgh Nitro Jam is the same weekend as the Moorseville Div 9 Pro-Am! Double-Darn!!

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam schedule

Lew with all this over scheduling it's almost like they don't want us there. I think Martin is on top of Farmington also. I love going to Pittsburgh. I've been there several times. With 6 races in our division this year we can miss a couple but that Pittsburgh date is a killer for me thats the last week or so of school for my daughter.

ED,
ADRL is one reason. The other is a few years back only one P/S showed up at Edmonton. Well I guess IHRA showed them.LOL They keep finding places to pack the stands but eventually they will run out of places that never seen a burnout. There is no TF this year either Did you know that. They have turned this into another form of MonsterJam. 3 hour show buy t-shirts and food Go Home.

The good thing to come out of this is the Double Division Races, Sportsman Spectacular, and TOC and we don't have to deal with 8 hrs of leaky ***** subpar fuel cars like in the old days.
I would go to a NJ race just for the TOC qualifier and the extra contingency but I'm not driving a 1000 miles to do it and Pittsburgh at 600 miles is on top of a in division event 100 miles away.

Pittsburgh NJ is also the same weekend as Englishtown (nhra) National Event also. Smart planning!

Field entertainment and the current management is the main reason there is no Pro Stock or Pro Mod anymore.

I do not understand why IHRA keeps moving west when the car count for the sportsman classes is not like it is on the east coast. On top of that why has the Nitro Jam gone to running a top eliminator and modified race at a so called "National Event"? I thought that National Events showcased IHRA's sportsman classes along with some of the professional racers.

What I also don't get Ron, is why Southwestern International Raceway didn't schedule their NJ race a weekend earlier (Mar. 16-17, or 17-18)? That's a good time of year to run a race, and it would've allowed those class racers in my state (and perhaps neighboring states as well), to run Pro-Am's at that race as they'd prepare for the NHRA divisional & national events the following weekends? It could've been a win/win for the track, and IHRA's efforts to woo the western racers their way too! Furthermore, nothing is going on that 3rd wknd of March, so it would've been perfect....even if the San Antonio race was moved up to March 23-24, there's no NHRA races scheduled that weekend in that region of the country, and it would've been the weekend following the Jegs Cajun Sports Nationals, so racers in La., and Tx., could've ran that race, then made the tow to San Antionio, for another race to fill the space between the Jegs race and the 'Vegas races (the following weekends), where they'd meet with the NHRA D7 & D5 traveling racers who might've ran the S.I.R. race as they'd prepare for 'Vegas....I don't get it....

The way I read it the March 23-24 * Southwestern International Raceway Tucson, Ariz. does not have any class cars only an ET sportsman race.
that is what that little * behind the date is for. I guess they didn't want to take a chance on any class cars in AZ with the Las vegas divisional that weekend.

Perhaps true, but I'd like to believe that they haven't forgotten how many of us sportsman racers converged upon their track when they held NHRA divisionals there...they're problem then was getting fans in the stands, not a strong racer presence. Now it's the other way around, they're getting the fans, but they're making some decisions that're alienating a significant racer base by not trying to make their schedule inclusive to our cars into their otherwise great show! I saw that * behind the date, but they're showing how little that track cares for us sportsman racers by making that decision....it's sad too, because I love that track and wish to race stock there again. If only they would be for us what Rocky Mountain Raceway is becoming for us...a site where us class racers are not only welcomed, but sought after....

Charles,
Several of us in Div 9 have talked about this phenomenon recently on this board. Here is a link to that conversation which may provide some answers to you-
