Where are these cars now?

Happy Holidays to everyone!
I want to start a thread that may help some people "fill in the blanks"!

I'll start by posting a picture of two of our old cars.
I want to know where they are today and what they look like today?
If anyone knows any good info (or has current pics), they can post an answer or picture.

Everyone can either answer or add a picture and story of the car they had and are looking for also.
Give us a little story about the car and its previous owners too.

Here goes.......

These two cars were in our garage in the late 80's.
************************************************** ********
Maroon 67 SS/GA camaro (NHRA record holder)
We built from scrap in early 80's to replace our 68 stick camaro
Sold it to Mike George from Orlando in late 80s
My neighbor (Andy Bohatch from PA), bought it back in early 90s
He sold it to a bracket racer from east coast
He traded it to Bennie Barcroft (from Tenn?)
------- where is it now ------ ???

Re: Where are these cars now?

71 SS/HA (GA, FA, CA) vette
**********************************

Chuckie Wright from Pittsburgh had this built in early 70's by SRD as a SS/D car,
(after seeing the success of Bernie Agaman's SS/DA vette).
Chuckie Sold it to my father in mid to late 80s
I won Englishtown 1991 with this car.
Sold it to Larry Eagle in 1999??
Larry sold it someone in Tenn in early 2000's (maybe "the tax group")
Car went to texas after that..... ?
---------- Help!!!-----------------

Bennie doesn't live very far from me. I used to see him racing that car at Memphis Motorsports Park but haven't seen it lately.

Looks like one of the cars in Don Baskins collection of race cars he has at his shop in Tenn.

I think Glenn Young, who runs the "Tax Group" deal, could tell you. I can't remember if they had/have 1-2 Corvettes of that vintage.

Re: Where are these cars now?

i bought the corvette from glenn young (tax group). chucked rods thru oil pan on first burnout. kenny schindler fixed the motor and put it back together but i never raced it. traded to a guy in arizona for lt 1 stocker. that was back 2002 or 3 i think. like to know where some of my old cars .are at. of course jimmy bridges has my corvette, greg smith still has my ss/k chevy 2, getting it back out this year. coan had my f/ed. dont know about the rest. there was a lot of them. maybe gonna race a little this year maybe.

Okay, Tom, Noel's message pinned it down. That car is sitting in Phil Mandella's shop being prepped for a new career. It took a long time for all the blanks to be filled in but with patience, it all becomes clear.

The corvette will not be a class car. It will be a PSCA type car. It is still red.

Re: Where are these cars now?

Thanks for the info on our old vette!!!!

Here are pictures of all of the paintjobs it had while Chuckie Wright and my father owned it.

Chuckie Wright (fresh from SRD) @ PID...circa mid 70s

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...tePIDtruby.jpg

This is the paintjob that Chuckie put on it before he let it sit for 10 years

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...heehantvb4.jpg

We had it painted this yellow before 91 season, won E-town that year.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...anvette91a.jpg

Harry added a little more color to it in mid 90's

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mvetteindy.jpg

Car ended up all orange after Edgewater roof trip. Won Dutch Classic 3 months after we put on the orange paint. Sold it to Larry Eagle with this paintjob.

It's amazing that you can track down your old cars, Tom! I wonder how many more retired race cars are sitting around waiting to be "re-discovered"?

Have a wonderful Holiday Season!

Let's hear it!

thanks in advance

Tom, if you race the same car for 25 years you won't have to look for it, just at it.

Here's one of mine. It's just sitting in the garage right now, eventually I'll get it back to it's 1973-77 configuration in the black paint. The current paint, backhalf, and etc were done by a previous owner in Maryland.

I guess you could say Kevin Cradduck's orange 69 Camaro has had an interesting journey. It started out with Joe Fasano and Steve Calabro, it went from there to Ken Bugaj, Ken sold it (can't remember who bought it, but that's when it was painted orange, so we're told), then bought it back, then sold it to Anthony Bertozzi. Pete Biondo drove it while Anthony owned it. Then Anthony sold it to Kevin.

Also if I remember Steve and Steve traded the camaro to Ken for 74 vette that ran I/SA. It's been a long time so if Steve reads this he can correct me.

Re: Where are these cars now?

Dear Dennis, I can correct you. Steve Calabro traded his 64 Corvette that was originally the Thompson Speed Shop car of Urcella Zamoella to Ken Bugai for Kens 74 Corvette. Steve's 64 car became Dave Lebrun's 67 A/SA car which he sold to Jim Harris who still has it. The second go around with Ken came years later. That 69 Car that Kevin has sat in one of my garages for about 7 years before they sold it to Ken. FYI, Thanks Joe.

I got the hood was painted the same as the car and the two barrel intake that didn't work when you guys tried it. Lot of fun back then long time ago.

Re: Where are these cars now?

Well, the orange 69 Camaro Kevin has was at one time blue, which car it was and who owned it is something I'll leave to others to decide. I know Steve Calabro was the first person to tell me it was once his, or his and Joe Fasano's. I think one of the Ficaccis, Mike or Dave, or maybe even Steve, also told us about the car's past. Anthony Bertozzi told us that he had bought it from Ken Bugaj. Ken has also contacted us and told us it once belonged to him. Also, both Arnold Greene and Mike Heintz told us some of the history of the car.

In any event, it has two class wins at St Louis, a runner up at the 2011 St. Louis race, and tow class wins at the Bowling Green SportsNational Open.

Re: Where are these cars now?

Thanks for this thread, Tommy

I built this 66 wagon in 1977 from a street car that was given to me by my lettering guy, the late Billy Mocarsky.
Later that year ,with the de-factoring of the 283, and the addition of a third seat, I was able to put the thing into R/Stock ,were it was capable of running under the index just about anywhere. For those guys new here, that was a really good situation back then.
We set the R/Stock record three times in 78, won the Orlando WCS and finished 3rd in the division.
By 1979, I decided to try Super Stock again. I converted the car to a powerglide for it's new owner, Frank (The Wagonmaster) Tantillo.
The second pic it at the 79 Winternationals. (recently forwarded to me by Dave Kommel)
Frank painted the car two tone blue, and finished 2nd in the Connecticut Dragway points that year.(1980)
I think I know where the car is now, but maybe Gary or Barry Parker can fill us in from 81 forward.

In comments of a Bob Rice pic (of the car as Dick Henry built it) on Facebook, Ron Morehead confirmed to me that this is the same car. I'm pretty sure it was the first GT Camaro built, but not sure if it's the first GT car period ....

Did anybody notice the headers coming out at the FRONT bumper ?
He ran this car at Kinston Dragstrip when it was originally built...

You beat me to it Danny, in Tom's pic you can see the headers coming out in front of the front wheel. There was an article in SS&DI on the car when it was originally built, and it talks about the headers....

Al Brister is a member here, and he helped Dick Henry a lot with this car back when it was first built. If he happenes to stumble across this thread he can probably elaborate on the headers and other such stuff. I remember seeing Dick run the car at Kinston and Jacksonville quite a bit in the mid to late 1980s.

If that is the same issue of SS&DI that I have, they featured what were believed to be the first 2 SS GT cars to be used in competition, the Dick Henry Camaro, and Len Schneiders Thunderbird. Schneiders TBird was first built with a 428 Cobra Jet, but was switched to a 351 Cleveland soon after. As far as I know, Len still has the car, but has not raced it much in recent years.
