Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
Moose,
Being from Westchester County, New York,,,,,,, we had more than our fair share of Motion Performance cars running around here... Many racers (street and strip) would head out to Baldwin, Long Island (about 90 minutes away) to see what was on the dealership lot. One of the first Motion Performance cars to show up in our area in the summer of 1967,, a red 67' Chevelle with a 427 engine and Ram-Air hood. Basically an A/MP car, that was driven on the street,,,,,,, An 11.60 car, driven off the lot,,,,:) Super Stock and FX Magazine (September 1967) Motion Performance, advertising the 67' 427 Chevelle, with Ram-Air http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Super-Stock-A...UuoEw~~_12.JPG |

Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
I was wondering if all of those Baldwin Chevrolet cars advertised on their dealership window behind the 67 427 Chevelle SS photo were all converted at Motion Performance or did Baldwin do some of their own work.
And I bet those little Vega's with small block & big block engine swaps were quite the street & strip cars back then...I recall seeing a few of those on the streets back in the mid 70's but most were home built units. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...01/vega427.jpg http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...&Number=444027 . |

Mack Markowitz was an Oldsmobile dealer in Hempstead NY. The dealership sponsored an NHRA 442 stocker at the time. I kind of remember the effort was an unsuccessful Markowitz Olds attempt to participate in the well received Baldwin/Motion venture with Oldsmobiles. |

Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
I remember when those Vega's came out with the small block,,
Motion had some of the first ones out with the 302, so the cars could be classed in D/G. pc |
Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
I thought you might like to know what Joel Rosen has been doing since the Motion Performance days.
I think building models was always a hobby that he turned into a very large business. Motion Models You should also check out the latest Baldwin Motion Lives site at the following web site. Baldwin Motion Lives I have fond memories from those days when you could purchase a car at Baldwin Chevrolet and take it down the street to Motion Performance and leave with a car that would run in the 11 second range!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think we will ever see anything like that again but boy were those the day's to be growing up in. Jim "Jimbo" Hill |
Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
Hey Jimbo,
welcome to the site...just curious did you buy one of those Baldwin Motion cars back then...if so then you must have a few old stories to tell us about. http://www.officialbaldwinmotion.com...ressbotmag.jpg http://www.officialbaldwinmotion.com...istorypic7.jpg |
Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
Back in those day's money was tight so I was not in a position to walk into Baldwin Chevrolet and purchase a new car.
I did purchase a used 1965 Chevelle with a 350 engine and a 4 speed that already had a 456 gear. I was very lucky to become friends with Dick Moroso back in the early day's before he ever started Moroso Performance. In those days the name of his business was Performance Automotive and there was Dick and another guy named Mike who worked for him. Those were the days before he went to work for Jere Stahl at Stahl Headers. Dick tuned my car and installed the cam and headers. I remember the first time he talked to me about going to Cecil County on a Friday night. I was about 17 years old and did not know where Cecil County was located. I had never been outside the state of Connecticut at that time. I have so many great memories from those days. Jim "Jimbo" Hill |

I never got a good vibe from that car.......... It sat in my yard for quite a while and aside from being the ugliest corvette I've ever seen I really didnt have the desire to restore it, then deal with all the crazies to try and sell it LOL ..... Being the market took a dump, I feel confident I made the right decision. It had no documentation and I still question it's tie with motion. It was originally a 427/435 car and had a nash 5 spd w/ 4.56's Bob |
Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
I got my Hemmings Muscle Machine magazine there is and article on 2012 motion camaro. There made by Redline Motorsports there in Schenectady NY. Cool looking car.

Re: Baldwin Motion Performance
I live right near Mack Markowitz, work down the block from Motion, and drive by The old Baldwin Chevrolet(CVS now) daily. Markowitz is in rough shape. I worked at the chrysler dealer around the block up to a year and a half ago.. Owner of the Chrysler dealer are the son of the Westbury Rambler dealer who had that AMX super stocker w SK speed.
ps, sadly we no longer have a track on LI. That Baldwin Motion pic is from WestHampton/ Suffolk County Dragway....... |
