Lost a great friend and racer.
 

I was hoping someone else would post this today so I would not have to. With a heavy heart I must tell you, Kenny Koonce Jr died last night from an apparent heart attack. Please keep his family in your prayers.

I heard it this afternoon but did'nt know if it was true. He did a lot of work for me.Kenny was one of a kind and will be missed. RIP

I received a call from Kenny's mom earlier this evening confirming the news. Kenny and I were friends for over 25 years sharing good and bad times. We were in each others weddings, drove each others race cars and drinked each others beer. We were not on good terms the last couple of years and that will eat at me forever. I pray that he knew our friendship meant alot to me and that he will be missed.

To Mr. and Mrs. Koonce, Yvonne, Sherrie, Blair and Koby you are in my thoughts and prayers. To Kenny, paint the heavens and label it with Kenny's Kustoms so I'll know where to find you.

Just left Kenny's mom and dad's.
Very sad indeed.
When big Kenny moved here from D.C many years ago ,i met a good friend , and my son practically grew up with little Kenny as we took big Kenny's stocker to a large amount of NHRA races together .
Both little ones would go with us on these trips and naturally loved the sport of drag racing
and made drag racing a part of their lives.......

Lots of good memories .........

knew little kenny since he was a baby.

I got to know Kenny Jr. through Tony Stephenson-Kenny always had a good word for us. I'd like to offer my condolences to Kenny's family and all of his friends.

Kenny and I had a lot of good times together. Of all the things I can say about him, the most important is he was always a good friend. Brother you will be missed and I will never forget.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kenny Jr. at last years Combo at Kinston. So terribly sad that he left us so young. I am at a loss for words.

I met Kenny and his Dad in Rockingham in 1991. He was, as I remember always smiling and had a friendly greeting for me when we would run into each other. RIP Kenny.

Having been friends with Kenny since he was a very young man I am sadded to learn he has died. I had spoken to him recently and yesterday was talking with someone who was going to call him before I.

Kenny worked on every car I have raced including the custom paint and settting up the suspnsion . Kenny and I are most proud of the paint he has put on my current ride.

We talked often about life, family and spirituallity. Kenny had great love inside of him, he was my friend and will always have a special place in my heart.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Kenny, his mom and dad, Sherry and his children who he adored.

I think Sterling said it best " Paint the heavens and label it with Kenny's Kustom so we will know where to find you".

Rest in peace my friend and keep an eye for me.

This is very sad news indeed. For as good as he was a painter and racer, he was a much bigger human being with a huge heart.

I met Kenny, by accident, on my way home from the Peidmont divisional after it had been postponed from bad weather. My truck, trailering my car on the back, had just broke down on the I-40 in the rain and he drove past me, got off at the next exit only to drive back past me heading the opposite way just to come back around and help me out! While I was trying to figure out how to get this mess home, this man, whom I had known for 5 minutes now, offered to tralier my car to my house and didn't charge me a dime! Needless, to say, I brought him a case of his favorite beer to his shop and a new friendship was born. I only knew him for a short 3 years, but I'll be blessed if I ever meet a loving soul like Kenny's again. I am devastated by this news and my sincere condolences to his family.

RIP.....So sad to hear this. I knew him when he was a very young child living near D.C. He was a great person and I knew his mom and dad from a long time ago. He will be missed.
