Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

Be careful a lot of scams here in PA , e-mails getting hacked and asking to wire money.
I'd get a phone# and call him direct

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

Tell him to contact the American embassy.

Ron Ortiz 02-08-2012 09:28 AM

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

Does the e-mail have misspellings. Try contacting him directly. It sounds like e-mail virus. Happened to me, people were calling me up to see if I was OK after supposedly being robbed, even people I haven't spoken to in years called me. Sounds like a scam.

Subject: Awful Trip!!!...Dave Bishop

Hi,

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,i came down here to Madrid Spain. for a short vacation to visit a resort and got mugged at gun point last night at the park of the hotel where i lodged. All cash, credit cards and cell were stolen off me.I've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all,my flight leaves today and I'm having problems settling the hotel bills.

The hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the hotel bills which is 1,720 Euro or anything you can afford now am freaked out. Please reply back and let me know if you will be able to loan me the cash so that i can give you the necessary details you will need to get the cash to me via western union money transfer, i promise to pay you back as soon as i get home.

Dave

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

I don't know the gentleman, however I have traveled abroad quite a bit and if this were to happen to me I would certainly NOT send out an E-mail asking for help. I would contact someone directly, you can go to any police station or the American embassy and make a free phone call to anywhere. After having a identity theft issue once I'm very leary of things like this. Joe

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

I do know Dave Bishop and reading this e-mail I really don't that this e-mail is from him. Dave is a professional writer who has traveled all over the USA. Dave Bishop, the racing writer, has enough corporate contacts not to need to be contacting someone like this. If you read the e-mail and how things are worded you would also question it. Be careful.

I got a similar message via facebook.A friend contacted me and said basically the same thing.Be careful.

Just called Tim and he says Dave is around home.
Called his home phone # and his cell ,but haven't heard back yet + looking at the e-mail address it's spelled eastcoastdrgnews..
E-mail the guy back and he said he needs $2000.00

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

Double check before you send any money and DON'T answer the email. The syntax and grammar of the letter is not a typical American style.

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

Guys,
That is as common as the Nigerian scam.
NOBODY sends an email out like that. Not legitimate anyways. And no country in the world will not let you get a hold of somebody back home if in fact you lost "everything". And those countries that would deny you access to help from home, wouldn't even allow this ONE communication.

We received an email like that a year or so ago, supposedly from George Widuch. We called George and of course it was a scam, but someone had hacked his computer and got all of his email contacts. He had to get a new email address and get the virus off his computer. Be careful what you reply to.

Scammers always want western union because once you hit the send button it is all over but the crying. They will do nothing to help you if you are ripped off.

Got a good email yesterday.Ive got a old Nova for sale on craigslist, and got a email from a women that said she wanted the car, and would be over right after work to get it .But wanted me to get her a quote on the insurance. She said she was at work and could not use the internet ,and supplied a link to the insurance company.I did not click on it,but im sure if i had it would have asked me a bunch of personel information.I tried to email her back and tell her i was not going to be scammed, but it came back undeliverable!!!

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

I had a car on Craigslist for sale. Someone e-mailed me that he lived in England and would take the car. He said he would send me a cashiers check for 4K over what I was asking. I should wire him 3K back and he would let me keep the extra 1K for my trouble. I e-mailed him back that when his transport driver showed up with cash in hand, the deal would be completed. I never heard from him again.

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

Ed, did you have anything to do with them being pregnant? Maybe it's not a ransom after all! They just want child support, so don't be a deadbeat Dad Ed and pay your child support for those poor Pomeranian puppies! Claude p.s. U.S. Embassies around the world will help get you home, so don't fall for this scam!!!!!!!!

Got into a similer deal many years ago, they wanted to send more money than i wanted for a very nice 72 ram-air cutlass i had ,told them i was,nt interested in all the red tape ect. they sent the money anyway . I got a cashiers check from wells-fargo bank, called and explained the deal, they would,nt tell me if the check was good or not , later a lady i spoke with called me back on her time and told me to beware,,,,, That was back win all this was popping up everywere,
still got the check , Wonder how many millions have been sent over those scams ???????

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

I really doubt that is from Dave Bishop. That is a classic scam when someone's email gets hacked. I've sent Dave a message through Facebook to make sure it is not true. However, I am 99.9 percent certain it is a scam.

I sure hope you weren't naive enough to believe this !! This has been an online scam for years. They just change the country of need, sometimes England or Germany and now Spain. Most likely it originated in Nigeria...

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

I called Dave at his home, office and cell , but could not reach him. But I new he would not spell words this way and he has lots more friends with MONEY other than me If he needed real help.
Also noticed how in the 2nd -4 e-mail words of eastcoastdrgnews were spelled. + I called Tim to see if he knew where Dave was.

Got the same e-mail a while back from a woman I used to work with. Well, it was her e-mail address anyway. I never sent her any money and she's still around.

Re: Anyone help Dave Bishop?

I had a 2008 and later years Challenger new hood, for sale on craigs list for $600.

Got an email from a guy who said he would take it. But he was out of town and would need to make arrangements for shipping.

I got another email (from a different email address) from him saying that he was sending payment and would give me final instructions after I received that payment.

A check arrived from an East Coast University, (he never said that he was in any way associated with any University, and he had said in his first email that he was on the West Coast), for the amount of $2900. This was just a little more than the $600 I was asking... Gee, could this be real?

I was supposed to deposit it, except for the $600 and another $400, for my "trouble", and to then send the rest of the moneyto his "shipper."

Can you see all of the red flags? I never tried to deposit the check. It was clearly a scam, and is all now in the hands of the FBI.

I hope they actually track down and arrest people like this, and while they are at it, they can take all of the illegal aliens back to where they came from too.

I think the odds of either one, is pretty slim. But, what the heck, I can always hope.
