Live from Pomona
I am no Toby Lang - and I hope and pray he takes this over, but I can at least get it started.
It was a gorgeous morning, barely a whisper of a cross wind. Sun on the track warmed it to just the right sticky. It was gorgeous. Watched stock from the starting line and superstock from the stands. I took lots of pictures and am just now going through them and will post them as I can. Alcohol funny car oiled the track a few times and we have been down off and on all afternoon. Running TAD now, then the pros and then our second round. This is the important round since we run E1 tomorrow afternoon as well. At least one stocker didn't get on the sheet as he broke in the staging lanes and I don't know if he is terminal. I am sorry, I didn't get his name. Lots and lots of lifting today too. Will be interesting to see how the sheet finally shakes out. Pictures later....for now I want to soak up this SUN!!! |
Re: Live from Pomona
It was Tony James - had a starter issue he will make Q2
|
Re: Live from Pomona
Good luck to all competitors there. Wish we were there! It shows Toby driving a Camaro. Is that right or is he driving the Chevelle?
|
Re: Live from Pomona
Comp is in the lanes, they are about to call us up for Q2.
Good to hear Tony will make it this round. I will try and see what Toby is driving this round. |
Re: Live from Pomona
Toby was driving his normal Chevell this morning on the first practice pass.
|
Re: Live from Pomona
Is Doug Lambeck really driving a V/S `69 Camaro? If so,cool.
|
Re: Live from Pomona
If that is what Doug is driving, it had a wheelie bar on it! LOL
Barometer is dropping. We went from a 29.09 to a 28.99 this afternoon. 2365 DA. Sitting in the stands watching Superstock right now. Head to cross wind now. It's not as strong as it was for our round. Our friend Earl (one of the Cobra Jet's owners) got us a GoPro camera for Christmas. I mounted it on the dash for the last run and it took a great video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvfRXksitjA |

Re: Live from Pomona
What class is Alex McClanahan in? It is showing her in A/S with a 10.60 index. Either the class is wrong or the index is wrong????
|
Re: Live from Pomona
I think they are both wrong. Last year the car was AA/SA.
|
Re: Live from Pomona
They have Alex right now. She's in CC/SA.
And she gets Fletcher first round. How long has it been since he's been beaten by a girl? LOL |
Re: Live from Pomona
Beautiful weather this morning - it was 60 F track temp when we went down. Barometer not as good as yesterday morning, but the track really came around today. A lot of people picked up this morning in Stock - most by a hun or two. Not quite so many picked up in Superstock.
Abe Lowen broke his rear end right off the starting line today. I hate to see that for anyone....being towed by a four wheeler down the quarter mile stinks to high heaven! Ladder is up for us and we have a lot of C/SA cars on our side. Potenial third round heads up for us. And there could be a very interesting 2nd round heads up if both Calvert and Shaul get by..... |
Re: Live from Pomona
Beth, if Calvert and Shaul both get through it won't be as close as you think. Calvert's is a under rated 428 (397 HP)Holbrook motored car. Thats 8 HP less than the 396-375 Aluminum head motor and makes at least 20 more hp than the best 396 motor in the country.
Dont you remember this? 154 Anthony Fetch 1499 Jim Boudreau E3 ****WINNER**** 0.093 10.181 113.73 0.045 10.412 121.10 B/SA Dial: 11.25 (+/-): -1.069 B/SA Dial: 11.25 (+/-): -0.838 Prior rounds: E2 (P Downing ) 0.044 10.311 0.131 (L Smith ) 0.002 10.607 0.167 E1 (K Stubbs ) 0.082 10.252 -0.998 (M Truman ) 0.020 10.418 0.018 Qualified: #11 10.164 -1.086 #59 10.365 -0.885 Heads-up! Re: Live from Pomona
The wheelstand was almost too impressive. We actually lost a hun in the 60 foot time because of it, but more than made up for it on the other end.
They are finishing up with the pros soon. We will be running our first round..... Air right now is worse than yesterday's afternoon run. Barometer is 28.95, 77.7 degrees, 26% humidity and 2532 feet DA. Wind is picking up and turning into a headwind again. Dialing will be fun! |

Re: Live from Pomona
Thanks, Jason!
I am going through my photos and trying to get them loaded together. Superstock from half track, stock from the starting line....I don't take photos during elims (superstitious about that) |
Re: Live from Pomona
How is Mark Lyle doing on the starting line?
|
Re: Live from Pomona
Starting line was run very well, very efficient. Never a traction problem at all for us. And no drama. It was very very nice. Kudos to Mr. Lyle and the NHRA for putting him in that position.
Two oil downs during Superstock. Todd Morris started smoking right at the finish line and oiled down the last 1/2 of the track. Keri Angeles Peri also had her engine go right after the starting line. She got right off the track but it still made a good mess. Frank Grossi got REAL lucky that round.... Super Comp was supposed to run after SS, but due to the curfew they did not run tonight. Still starting out with Stock R2 tomorrow at 8:15 am. |
Re: Live from Pomona
Will not be Calvert VS Shaul in 2nd Round.
|
Re: Live from Pomona
It's off and on spitting/drizzling this morning. Very gray and dreary. Not sure if we will get to start on time or not....

Re: Live from Pomona
Still raining a bit harder now. We are on hold for who knows how long due to the rain. Sky is very very cloudy and gray, this drizzle could last a while. Bummer. I don't even hear the jet driier working.
We're going to get donuts for everyone to kill some time..... |
Re: Live from Pomona
Bits of blue are trying to break through the clouds, and the sun is trying to force it's way through. The drizzle has quit, so there is hope. Haven't heard what the new plan is though.
At this rate, they will probably pull the plug on sportsmen this morning as the original schedule said pro stock out at 11 am, and they will be lucky to be ready to run by 11 am if it stays dry. Its very cool out, humid. Will be hard to get the track dry. But....they may want to run the stockers to finish drying the track and to put some heat in it for the pros. |
Re: Live from Pomona
The word I heard is they are shooting for an 11 AM start and then it will be back to back pro sessions.

We just turned on the radio and heard Alan say Comp at 10:30 then the pros...... So my guess is the sportsmen won't run until after the 2nd pro session. Super Comp hasn't even had one round yet. Donnie is going to see what the new schedule is on the trailer if it is up yet and I will post what he finds out.
The sky is still really gray, but the clouds are trying to break a bit. The blue sky shown in the picture is not representative of the overall cloud cover. It is very gray here. You can't even see the mountains behind the track. |
Re: Live from Pomona
Jet drier is running and now they are going straight into the pro session as the DRC schedule shows. Still going to try to get all three rounds in for us today.
