Toll road @ Baytown

I understand that if you exit on Hwy 99 of I-10 it is now a toll road with the booth at the race track exit. I don't know how much it is, I just know that they are now charging you for that short distance. I went the old way!!

Do not use the toll road unless you have an EZPass - it's electronic tolling only, no cash, no attendants, no coin hoppers.

Race track signs direct traffic to that exit. Signs say "No cash, No pay by mail". But locals told me it's not on line yet. We saw no flashing lights, etc, when we drove through the gates. May find tickets in the mail when we get home. I wouldn't think signs would direct us to that exit if a pike pass was required.
I could be wrong. Lol

As I posted on another Toll related thread somewhere, how exactly is this legal? Even as devalued as it is becoming, to my knowledge, our dollars still say "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE."

When the electronic tolling comes on line there will someone on duty to collect from those without EZ Pass. To all those with the larger rigs and multiple axle trailers ,it might be to your advantage to look into EZ Pass as there is a discount for using it and can be a time saver at a crowded toll. I use it every day on the job and would not go without it. Just remember the EZ pass transponder for your car is different than one set up for tow rig. :)

Not in Texas. They completed the section of Beltway 8 between Bush International and I-10 on the east side of town and it is a toll-tag-only road. No attendants, no coin hoppers, just cameras and large fees for those who ignore the EZPass-only signs at both ends of that segment. The road segment in question is part of a planned outer beltway and is also toll-tag-only. There are warning signs on I-10 as you leave Houston and I would expect there are also warnings posted as you approach from the Louisiana side.

To be honest with you ,that is the first I have heard of it. Sounds like it is the first step of BIG BROTHER forcing you to get EZ Pass. That would never go over in the the Northeast as the lawyers would lined up to protect the people who chose ( for whatever their reason ) not to apply for EZ Pass. Question--- Was this road built with public ( federal or state ) funds ?

Let's face facts, guys. The new exit has been covered with signs threatening to go "paid" in the near future since it opened two years ago. This didn't catch ANYBODY "by surprise".

I have no problem with a toll road, but I'm from out of town & don't NEED a frickin EZ pass where I live. How in the HELL can they have a toll road with no OPPORTUNITY to pay, yet fine you (heavily?) if you use their road. Where I come from toll roads have attendants or at least the opportunity to pay.
What about the number of people that will be attending the race in April from out of town in rental cars that don't have an EZ pass. The track literally forces you to use this exit & toll way...
This just ain't right.

Unk, notice how heavily traveled that stretch is? LOL
Gonna take some time to pay for the cameras. I don't remember seeing another vehicle there the two years I've used it.

E-470, the toll road that runs east of Metro Denver, has camera tolls for those that don't have an in-car toll transponder. Your license plate gets its picture taken at every toll point or exit that has a charge, and they send you a bill in the mail to pay the toll. That rate is 20% more than it would be with the transponder. The drawback with the transponder is they float cash from your bank account to cover the charges before you actually use them - you deposit $35 into the account, and it sits there until you use it. Use it down to a balance (of your money) of $12 (if I remember right), and they automatically take another $35 from your bank account to float until you need to use it.

Re: Toll road @ Baytown

I talked to several people that used it not knowing that it was now a toll. They will get a bill if they didn't have a toll sticker. I checked the toll and it was $1 for a regular vehicle and $6 for a rig. That's to go about a 1/2 a mile !!! If your coming for the National Event there is an alternate. If your going east, go to the next exit past hwy 99, turn right, go to the light, then another right. From the west, exit before 99, turn south, then a right at the first light. Of course that could all change if they screw with th traffic control.

Re: Toll road @ Baytown

I taled to Seth Angel today at the track about the toll road & his statement to me was that for the national event Texas was going to monitor the traffice flow and any vehicles that didn't have an EZ pass would NOT be billed but that Texas would bill the track. They NEED to be able to use this stretch of road to facilitate traffic flow in and out of the facility.
Those words from the track manager.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike has exits that are EZPass only.
