Front springs

I have a 72 Nova stock front end, backhalf style car with a big block. I don't class race just bracket and super street. I need to put new springs in the front. The car with driver is 3105 lbs. The front is 1705 lbs. with driver. What are some of you using in your stock and super stockers. I realize my weight may be lighter than some of yours. How are you coming up with the correct spring rate and where to get them. Thanks

you ain't been on the bumper yet;) and I used Moog springs on my stock suspension Chevelle...

That said, who makes the spring isn't important, what is important is that you use the tallest spring that will fit with a wire diameter heavy enough to the support the nose weight within 10%, that when compressed at ride height results in a air gap of no more than 1" between the factory snubber on the lower control arm and it's point of contact on the frame

Man Ed, that front end is all over the place, good advice though!

Mark, your latest reply in yet another thread I have offered advice to the op's specific question, further demonstrates that you're clueless and your sole objective here is to attempt to discredit any advice I offer, while you ignore the op's question.

The original poster is a co-worker and long time friend. I keep telling him to just buy some Moroso's and try them....I have used them many times and they almost always need cutting and they work just fine.....or get the springs Santhuff sells....Landrums I believe they are.

His car is a 502 now and was a small block and he's trying to get back racing after being out for 7-8years. The nose is down on the stops right now....NFG.

How'd Ricky's engine sound RockStar......Since I got no phone call I assume it was fine....

Re: Front springs

I don't know about "rockstar" but I have had women tell me I rocked their world:D

Rich, sounds good, oil pressure good.

On the Moroso Trick springs, the complaint I heard from many going back over 20 years is the quality of the spring is no longer what it was and depending on who you talk to, there are some that have stated the springs were dead in less than a full season of racing.

Who's the friend?

Tony Monico......
He has a very nice 72 Nova.....ran a little S/ST and some bracket racing in the past. Used to run Mid 10's with a 350.

He built a 502 himself......He's trying to get out and make license runs soon.

Glad to hear Ricky is up and running fine and hopefully it stays that way for a season.....

Re: Front springs

Santhuff springs are machined flat on both ends of their springs and you have to remove 1 coil on 1 end so the fit in spring pocket in lower control arm of Camaros, chevelles, novas etc. You can fit the flat end in it if you like, I would not as it does not fit into the pocket in the lower arm then.
I cut mine. fit fine. Santhuff says no problem cutting them as first coil is a dead coil as they put it.

Re: Front springs

I asked bob gonier, a member here what coil spring is he running on his small tire, super street Nova who's build was featured by Evan Smith in National Dragster last year and he told me told me he runs Santhuff's 180 lb. spring. He did say however that the springs are at coil bind and the lower control arms on the bump stops.

X2 on the "Trick Springs"

(hint) go back and read post #5 and "use what's suggested"
some of the "best kept secrets" are right in front of you!

Re: Front springs

Santhuff 180's here with 1900 lbs of nose weight.

I think the 200's would be ideal for the combo.

Ive got nothing to add to your good advice, that car is just too much, wild and woolley:D

Re: Front springs

Nice.....but tettering on the edge of disaster......one little move left or right and your toast.....

Calm that thing down ......and put a wheelie bar on it.......guardwalls and sheet metal don't mix well........and oil pans don't usually look good if you bail out of one of those big wheelies.....

Actually, on my 73' firebird the lower a arm has a recess which will accept the santhuff spring as is. You have to place the flat piece of the spring near the two holes that look with water drains towards the engine side of the a arm. Something to look at before you start cutting.
