4th Gen F Body rear hatch?

Does anybody have the actual weight difference between the weights of 4th gen Trans Am & Firebird rear hatch? I need to move more weight to the front of mine now.

Re: 4th Gen F Body rear hatch?

I can weigh one of my firebird ones and check it if you want to take your TA hatch off and weight it to find the difference. I dont have any trans am ones. You just need to tell me how you want it weighed. IE completly stripped down with only glass, exactly as it comes from the factory with plastic and wireing harness ect.

Re: 4th Gen F Body rear hatch?

Thanks Rob! I was hoping I could find out without pulling mine. I'm lazy. I have flat run out of ways to keep it down without adding weight. I hate to take the weight box out in case I need to move some back for a greasy track. I got way more than I expected from back-halving my car. No longer have to sweat slick tracks. I can put a lot of bite back in.
Sure a new deal for me. Eastexas Race Cars really knows their stuff. I highly recommend them to anybody needing chassis work. Just wish I had my head on straight at Houston, I probably wouldn't have broken anything. Hope it's another 30 years before my next one. I would be 98, won't be an issue then. LOL

I used to own a '94 T/A 25th Anniversary model. I heard from several sources that big wing will kill a MPH or more.
Just another thing to consider...

Jeff, I heard about a half. Now, since Eastexas Race Cars back-halved it, the darn thing needs weight up front. I left it on before because with small tires I felt like it needed it back there. Now I need to calm it down. First big tire car I've ever been in. I had no idea!

Re: 4th Gen F Body rear hatch?

Ed, have you thought about a lexan rear window? That would shed 28lbs right there and allow you to add some ballast back wherever you wanted.

VFN makes a light fiberglass rear hatch for $246 that weighs 8lbs. It's here:

http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/932001camaro.htm

Jerry Bickel makes a lexan rear window for $350:

Jeff, I don't know how. If your on Facebook look me up. Stephanie Cruzen told me how to do that. LOL

I don't think we can have Lexan windows.

Fine for a bracket car. We can't do that.

Not likely to be going through tech in Div 4 with one.

And you are correct, speaking for my self. In 49 years of NHRA racing, I have never been bounced for anything. Passed all tear downs, with Red Anderson, Wesley Robberson, and Chuck Nelson teaching with flying colors. Some would say I don't try hard enough. LOL

Thanks Jeff. Yep, she be wounded. Needs a whole rotating assy, one sleeve, and an oil pan. Looks like the heads survived. Should have had sense enough to add some oil until I could get it calmed down.

last I checked, the NHRA don't track or post those accomplishments and they don't award Wallys for it either.

It's all about the W!;)

He's not off on the carbon fiber comment. It's what the majority of firebird/camaro guys run (hatch, hood, doors, etc.) It's passed D4 tech and tech everywhere every time.

Most of those cars are plastic from the factory, but we can't run light weight parts like that. At least, if it's not legal I won't do it. I have to live with myself.

Yeah, but if I did that I would want to slit the throat below the face I see in the mirror while trying to shave every morning.

Am learning about some people's principles, however.

If you cheat and win you have not really won. You cheated. If you cheat and lose, your REALLY a loser.

The car came out nice Ed. From the picture in your avatar it looks like it was leaving really high before the chassis work, why would you have oiling issues now? Did it flip over backwards!!! Lol, just kidding.

I totally agree that it's shameful that alot of these guys don't care about the integrity of the rules. It's not so hard for NHRA to go tap there knuckle against guys doors and bounce the ones that are not right. Heck, half of the ones you can tell without even touching. But it's NHRA's rules and if they allow it then they do. It's just drag racing, don't go thinking about cutting your neck.

That avatar was my old foot brake 383" LT1, ran more oil in that one because it did that a lot. 3.06 low gear in the factory 4L60E made it like a tractor, went up a lot. Have not had that in a few years, should have my head out of my rear and added some oil until I got it calmed down. Rickie Decker told me who to talk to to cure it.
Just got everything apart. Rotating assy is total junk. Got lucky with the heads.
Thanks, Ed

I don't stoop to crap like that, so don't have the urge to cut mine.

Deb had a good idea. Move your seat closer to the steering wheel. That should keep that rocket on the ground!

Hahahaa............I showed her my post last night and she really took up for you! Said I needed to remember all the lite weight parts I had to have for the dart. Car looks really good. Are you going to make it to Belle Rose? She said I could go if you or Jeanie were going to be there to keep an eye on me.

Won't have it fixed by then. Wanted to, just can't get my parts by then, much less have time to put it back together if they did arrive. Give her a hug for me!

Take care, Ed
