Engine Shippers
I recall discussions in the past about good ways to ship an engine across the US. The ones who offer a crate I can drop an engine in and it will be picked up at my location........any help?.....These would be short blocks only.
Thanks in advance. |
Re: Engine Shippers
It will much cheaper terminal to terminal if that matters. I have used ForwardAir with satisfaction many times in the past for engines, short blocks and blocks.

Re: Engine Shippers
I've used this site for shipping.
http://freightcenter.com/ You have to set up an account but then you can chose the best freight line to use based on price and where it's located. I've always done a terminal to terminal to save the money like Mr. Southerland said, but going to a business address has no extra delivery fee charged. Ken Kopecky 1454 E/SA |
Re: Engine Shippers
Terminal to Terminal is the best way, and see if they have a Loading, unloading ramp, sure helps if your picking up in a pickup truck!

Re: Engine Shippers
I always used Delta Air Freight but you'd have to check their rates. I'm sure they've gone up.

Re: Engine Shippers
We have used Freightquote.com @ 1-800-323-5441and Unishippers @ 719-502-1366. Both have handled our engine shipments with the best rates and good service. No complaints from either one. Just FYI- The need for a liftgate drives the price up quite a bit. You will have to put the engine in a box or on a stand and then attach it to a skid prior to them picking it up. I am not aware of anyone who offers the specific service that you are requesting. I'm not saying that type of service isn't available. I'm just saying I haven't heard of it being offered.

Re: Engine Shippers
Thanks all.......I believe there is a company that has a "container" (heavy duty plastic or?)where you drop an engine in it.........and ship. I sure could be wrong on this........just trying to avoid building a crate and all that jazz. I'll call RWR out here and see if they can add to the discussion.......thanks again all.

Re: Engine Shippers
Stock / Super Stock racer Greg Gay can help you too, he owns BDR transport and can ship across the country.

Re: Engine Shippers
FYI, freightquote and unishippers are 3rd party logistics companies. They do not own their own equipment. They put the freight on independant owner trucks. Not saying that's bad, but you lose a little control that way. I like fedex ground.

Re: Engine Shippers
Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys. We can really only handle two types of moves:
1) Shipments originating in New England going to most places in the country and 2) Shipments originating in California going back to New England (and maybe a drop off directly in route). As for most traditional LTL carriers, my only advice is crate them well. Break-bulk terminals are named that for a reason. Those guys load every inch of a trailer, and they can be brutal. A couple years back, we moved a hemi for the Howes. They had a big plastic box that bolted together and was designed to move an engine. It was fantastic. You could ship your engine with most anyone, if it was protected like that. For the shipments that do move in our lanes: B-D-R Transport, 800-421-0126. |

Lynn Forwarding.....www.lynntraffic.com
(661) 589-5749 mkirby@lynntraffic.com The key to any shipment is the packaging. Any assembled block must be securely bolted and/or strapped to a pallet of sufficient weight to handle the weight of the engine(300-500lbs). I have handle everything from junk core motors to blown alcohol pro-mod stuff and regardless of the value it must be packed to prevent movement. It's also a good idea to stretch wrap the entire package to prevent penetration by dust, water, grease, etc. It will be picked up and moved by forklift drivers at several terminals between origin/destination so make sure to keep that in mind. Any engine or trans of less than 500lbs should be able to move for less than about $250 just about anywhere in the country. Please don't call unless you are willing to take responsibility for adequate packing. |
