"Chevrolet Announces COPO Availability to Dealers"

Sorry guys, but I had to remove the thread "Chevrolet Announces COPO Availability to Dealers" I also deleted Copocamaro's membership. The thread was getting way off topic and to the point of being threatening.

Ken, no need to apologize for doing what has to be done. Again, thanks for providing the forum for us to speak our minds. Maybe we'll see each other at the races, and possibly even have a couple of those "adult beverages".

Re: "Chevrolet Announces COPO Availability to Dealers"

Here you go Larry, Alan sounds good.

"Chevrolet Performance Parts is introducing the COPO Camaro Program.

The COPO Camaro is Chevrolet’s first purpose built Camaro drag-racing specialty car. It is designed to be competitive with the quickest in NHRA’s Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes. Each is delivered with class-approved racing content. A total production limited to 69 2012 COPO Camaros will be built. Production is scheduled to begin in April 2012.

The 2012 COPO Camaro will have only a serial number. It does not have a Vehicle Identification Number and no Certificate of Title can be obtained. COPO cannot be registered, titled or licensed, and cannot be driven on public roads or highways. COPO is specifically offered for off-highway, competitive NHRA track use only.

During the promotional phase for the COPO Camaro Concept, the public was able to communicate their interest in purchasing a COPO if the program were to be introduced for public sale. From the many individual hand raisers who expressed interest in buying a COPO Camaro, potential purchasers have been identified based on customer feedback and an objective sorting process. They will be offered the opportunity to purchase a 2012 COPO Camaro from the Chevrolet dealer of their choosing.

We will begin notifying these consumers of their opportunity to purchase a COPO Camaro on Thursday, March 8th. If a candidate chooses your dealership to facilitate the purchase of a COPO, you will receive a call from a Chevrolet Performance representative explaining the purchase process and asking you to identify a point of contact within your dealership for the customer to work with. Customers will have ten (10) business days after receipt of their personalized COPO Purchase Certificate to complete the purchase transaction with their selected Chevrolet dealer.

Thanks Ken, but I meant from those trying to sell their cars / their invites.

If they aren't willing to share their letter, to prove they got the invite, then their ads are all bs. and should be totally ignored.

I know myself, If I got the call, and the subsequent letter... I'd be sharing that info with everyone a.s.a.p.

*imo - the 442 is pretty cool!

My dealer was willing to work with me. Honestly, this is money they would never see if I didn't bring them the deal. (White, 427, no stripes)

Re: "Chevrolet Announces COPO Availability to Dealers"

There really should be no mark up. We have to go to factory and pick them up there is no warranty no lemon law I put my order in with the factory and dealers should be happy if they get there name on such a limited product

Has NHRA approved it "officially" in the class guide?

I mean I know it will be just wondering - 450HP? or 350HP?

Exactly,

It seems that fools and their money are easily parted. If the buyers hope to purchase this car with the intention of flipping it to make some cash or hold on to it as an original for a few years based on speculation that's fine.

But to purchase this combo based on the theory that it will be NHRA competitive or dominant is a huge gamble. What is the extent of GM's participation after the sale???? What is the NHRA rated HP??? How well do these cars actually perform???

One could easily fork out the cash for one of these cars and never qualify in the top 16 !!! I would want GM to step up and show me what I am buying. Remember: The best place to buy a race car is at the end of the track at the scales. Where's the beef??

I am sure you won't be treated as poorly as Chrysler Canada treated us Drag Pak buyers! Best of luck to you all!

I dont know why any dealer would want any part of this if there was'nt anything in it for them( shut out from the beginning). If this was done by a random drawing by Chevrolet and like you say you have to go to the factory to pick up then why is the dealer even involved!!! (I think) Ford and chrysler gave the dealers allocation for the product and let them sell as they seen fit. And not all dealers received one.

I would bet most of these never see the race track. For an investment they might be better than the Mustangs if they only make 69 of them.

Re: "Chevrolet Announces COPO Availability to Dealers"

The investment is if GM only builds 69 of them, what happens next year when they decide to build 180 of them? Sort of like the Mustangs.

Only time will tell on investment potential. There is a very good chance that they will build a limited run each year at least until the next Camaro revision.

The COPO on eBay did not receive one bid. As far as money is concerned they will perform about as well as any other drag car.

Wonder what the dealer MARKUP is for helping you in delivery and PREP. Is there factory pickup to bypass the dealer rapage. If not what does the dealer do for you? Would be a fine time to discuss a dealer parts deal sponsership !

Re: "Chevrolet Announces COPO Availability to Dealers"

That gentleman jumped the gun as far as you never offer something that is not already in your possession. Trying to get a jump with the hype. Many unanswered questions as delivery, dealer prep (what a joke),factory support ( computer programs etc.) A lot of questions with no numbers attatched. But , if your loaded and you absolutely have to have it ,by all means JUMP IN !!!!!!!!!! PS. Also, is this a one time run of 69 Copo cars or will there be more next year etc. Will make a big difference on price down the road if you are buying to flip it.

They are all factory pick-up. The dealer does paperwork only, unless they are buying one for inventory (they are on the hook for the money once the order is placed). They have very little mark-up (the Challengers were the same).
