Lloyd Mackay
Not to make this day any worse with the loss of great racers, but we have lost another great racer and one of my best friends today. God Speed Lloyd.

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Paul, I didn't know very well Lloyd, but we sure enjoyed talking to him at the West coast events we ran. We spent a long time talking to him in the staging lanes at Vegas last month before Pomona. He was a great and interesting guy. Sounded like things were going well for him in Vegas. We knew he was sick, that's why he moved west and south, but this is very unexpected. We are so sorry for your loss and we will sure miss racing with him.

Indeed sorry to hear of Lloyd's passing. Had the chance to talk with him a bunch when he was racing here in the northeast. As Beth said, very interesting fellow!

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Really sad day. Lloyd was a great guy and accomplished businessman.

Re: Lloyd Mackay
I am really shocked to read this. I did not know Lloyd was sick. He was from my area and raced at my local track for many years.
I bought a Stocker from him in 1996....a '69 Nova He bought a Stocker from me in 2007....my LT-1 Firebird He had various businesses..... He had some nice cars and a lot of Class win Wally's at his garage in NJ..... His V6 Buick Stocker won most of them.... I saw his name on recent race results from just last week out at Las Vegas... He was a fairly young man so this is a real shock to me... My condolences to Lloyd's friends and family..... |

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Very sad indeed and I just spoke with him last month.
|
Re: Lloyd Mackay
as is everyone, shocked to hear. Last spoke to him 2 weeks ago.
Made a few calls minutes ago to some of Lloyd's close friends to fill in the blanks. The info I got is 3rd hand but his cause of death is most likely heart related. RIP Lloyd |
Re: Lloyd Mackay
I am so saddened by this. Jim and Lloyd grew up together and went to their very first drag race together. He let me use his stocker for Bob Mullaney to drive when Jim's stocker wasn't ready. Lloyd left the Shoe decals on the doors to honor Jim's memory. He will be greatly missed. My condolences go out to Monica and Donald.

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Terrible news. Lloyd was way too young. He went out of his way to help an awful lot of people over the years that I knew him and never expected anything in return. He was a fine man and a fine human being.

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Lloyd was the most genuine and honest person I've known. He has gone out of his way to help me countless times over the years. I still can't believe it. We just spoke on the phone last week. His generosity, knowledge, and unwillingness to ever stress about anything will be greatly missed. Lloyd had that ability to talk to anyone for just a few minutes and make them feel like they knew him forever, so I can imagine how many feel the way I do right now. I'm glad for all the time he made to hang whenever he was in NJ after moving to Vegas. Our condolences go out to Monica and Donald as well as all his friends.

Re: Lloyd Mackay
This is from Bernie Cunningham. He doesn't have internet access on the road.
Racers and friends alike, we have lost a good man in Lloyd MacKay. He was a great person and a fantastic friend that would do anything for anybody, and I do mean all of that. Very rarely does one pass that possesses Lloyd's kindness, integrity, and awareness of life, in additon to his love of people, cars, business, and racing. He's going to be sorely missed by me and all of the people that he has touched through both business, racing and pleasure. His biggest friends came from the racing community. Many don't know that Lloyd has raced most of his life because he was a friend of the late Jim "Happy" Harrington. He was very well known around the division one area because he often drag raced two to three times a week. In the last few years, it's been my pleasure to have him race my spare car, both in Stock, and most lately in Super Stock. His desire to win a NHRA national event was feverish, and I so dearly wished he had accomplished that in my car before his untimely departure from our presence. His life since moving to Las Vegas with his wife Monica and son Donald was going very well. He had a very big plans for setting up his stamp business better than ever, investing in the local real estate market, and housing his extensive car collection. Everything was looking very bright. I can't begin to tell you how much he was loving life. I plan to commemorate him this weekend by parking his car at the back of the staging lanes as a sign of the 'missing man.' Furthermore, I'm working with NHRA for a tribute lap down the track before first round with all of the Stock and Super Stock racers and his wife and son present. Toby made us a tribute flyer that I will have printed and hand out to racers to put inside their cars for this weekend. For those that knew this wonderful man, please help us celebrate his life. |

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Lloyd was a class act. He was kind, always with a nice thing to say and a positive attitude. I always admired his racing combinations and willingness to try something different.
Bernie, that would be great if you could make that happen. Evan and Diane |

Re: Lloyd Mackay
Like everyone has said, Lloyd was simply a great guy. There aren't many people you meet that don't have some negative qualities, but I can't think of one when I think of Lloyd. He was the most likeable person I think I've ever met.
Over the last few years, I got to be very good friends with Lloyd. Not just a race track friend, but a real friend. Donna and I flew out here on Monday morning and spent all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with him. Like Bernie said, one of Lloyd's new interests was real estate, and he was helping us find a property here. As I got to know him better, it became clear what a sharp and savvy business person he was, and the real estate deal was no exception. The old "you can't judge a book by it's cover" was made for him. But by the same token, he was the most genuine, what you see is what you get sort. No pretense whatsoever. We were at one of Lloyd's favorite restaurants, Outback, Wednesday night. I bought dinner as a token of appreciation for all his help, but my man Lloyd had his coupon for a free Blooming Onion. Anyone that really knows him will appreciate that, in addition to his standard drink order of "Coke, no ice". When we left him around 9pm, he was fine. I spent a little time with Monica and Donald yesterday. Obviously, they're devastated and need time to get a plan together, but Lloyd has a lot of great friends that will help to shoulder the burden. This man had worked hard his whole life and had himself postured to enjoy the next 20+ years. Totally 'effin sucks doesn't even get us started. Great job with the photos Jimmy. |
Re: Lloyd Mackay
R.I.P. Lloyd. He was a great guy and will be missed. I always looked forward to our visits. Thoughts and prayers for the Family.
