Fixing (pluging) slicks?
I have a couple of slicks that have plugs in them that are now leaking (a little) .
I want to know if I can replug them? Put a patch on the inside? Or put a tube in them? |
Re: Fixing (pluging) slicks?
To be safe I would buy new ones no matter how quick or slow your car is. The cheap way out would be to patch or install a tube. Plugging again could just be asking for trouble possibly losing a race or even going flat in the staging lanes or starting line. That would be a bummer.

Re: Fixing (pluging) slicks?
A good number of years ago a couple of brothers here ran a super gas car actually if my memory serves me correctly it was called Pro Gas at that time on Bandags. One of the brothers worked at a Bandag shop and would take his slicks and vulcanize the rubber bandage used to glue the tread on highway tractor tires onto his slicks. They had very good success with this process back in the day. I very reluctantly admit that I even ran a pair of these tires on my bracket car at the time. Wow! The stuff we tried and got away with.

Re: Fixing (pluging) slicks?
I`d be hesitant to use normal plugs in a thin slick, but I have used "Patch/plugs"in slicks before with good results. These are a combined patch with a plug in the center. Of course, tubes are another option, and in such a small size, likely would not add much weight. A 20" tall tire on a 14" rim would have a pretty short sidewall, so I imagine you wouldn`t run the slick pressures very low , right?

Called the w-house, about a year to late, they did a search they show stock at rocket ind. in Austrailia. there sales@rocketind.com You would think with all the tuners you could find a good used pair. John gsa612

Re: Fixing (pluging) slicks?
I've decided to cut the plugs as close to the inside of the tire as I can. Put patches over them. Then put a tube in them.. That should get me through the weekend. As safely as possible. I don't run real low pressures (12 to 14 pounds)
If anyone has any other ideas. Let me know. Thanks Artie BTW still hoping my brand new 20 x 8 x 13 tires are supposed to be here on Wednesday. So I might have them as well. I have a pair of steel 13 x 7" wheels to put them on. |

Re: Fixing (pluging) slicks?
I was just out digging around in my garage. I have a set of the 20x8x14 that I got from the
late Jimmy Berg some time ago. There is still quite a bit of wear hole left. Anyone interested? |
