"Live From" Z Max Four Wide
7 Attachment(s)
It’s a beautiful day here at the Four Wide. Its a little chilly but the sun is strong. I just finished up with tech and I took a few random shots while waiting. Tech was a little slow but it went smooth.
The local weather tells us there is no rain in the forecast. Tomorrow should be very fast, temps for our early morning qualifying will be in the 50's, with a high of 70. Saturday and Sunday look great, getting warmer every day. Being a 3 days race I am not sure how or what type in car videos I will have, but I will do my best. I'm going to tinker with the race car and take some more pictures, I will be back Later. Butch, Bill Howell is doing the decals and will be here this weekend, stop by and pickup some. |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Ken - Great to see you're on the job for a change - make sure you take lots of pictures and dig up all the dirt ...........we'll be out here waiting .
PS - You can relax next week as I'll be in Richmond . PSS - It'd be real good if you could win the race too while you're there .............. |

Here is tomorrow's schedule, Super Stock Class will be run on Saturday. I have never seen Class on Saturday except for Indy, this has to be a first.
Butch, I am on the pro side. All classes except comp and top sportsman are parked on the pro side. I am passed the finish line next to the fence. look for the PC Richard trailer I am parked in front of them. Don't' count on a win from me Jack, just trying to enjoy the race. |

That Monza i wonder if that was the late Jerry Nethers S/G Car?? |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
If I'm correct it's the old Jimmy Fordyce's Monza he used to run in S/G. The current driver runs it in Super Comp

I got to ride around the pits and get some shots of the cars before they were put away. I saw Nitro Joe's new golf cart, he told me to make sure I get a photo and post it, it very nice and very bright.
It is starting to cool off fast, it will be a very fast first session for tomorrow given this tracks history. This is my first race of the year, it was nice to see everyone and bs about the new year and what we did over the winter, I guess that what keeps me coming back. I saw a few new cars that I have not seen before, but mostly the regulars were here. I finally got to see the Hawk and Cook Brothers CJ, man that thing is a show car. Makes my car look old and worn out. I will give the weather numbers in the morning before I go up, see you all tomorrow. |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Rob, you are correct that is (was) my brothers monza.

Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Well i guess everyone has seen the first round of qualifying, yep wow. I was in the staging lanes when I heard Alan give Don's numbers, he likes going fast and man does he.
It was very fast for the first run. Temp 51 bar 29.57 humid 585 DA 270 ft no wind This is Robbie Hudlow's run. I could not get a good camera placement, I guess its better than nothing. |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Wow...just less than eleven years since Bobby DeArmond's 9.99 at Mission, now we're more than a second quicker and 24 mph faster.

Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Don - Congratulations from everybody at Ford Racing. We figured a Cobra Jet would be the first Stocker in the 8's - it was just a matter of who and when.
|
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Way to go Don!!! I always liked how you ran your car, it is only fitting that you would be the first official run in the 8's.

Although the weather is great here, its been a slow day. Stock and Super Stock will not run until later today most likely tonight. No revised schedule had been posted as of yet. Between oil downs and breakage and a super gas car hitting the wall, everything is been pushed back.
I did spot this mustang golf cart, said to be competing in the new zzz/sa class to be announced later this year. |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
You do know that the reason stock got pushed back until last was because nhra was upset with them this morning when they took way too long getting to the lanes that it put them behind right away. So as punishment they moved them until last.

Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
They threatened to close the lanes on the stockers at the points meet there last year when a lot of cars were really slow to the lanes. However, it was kinda spitting rain at the time.

Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Did anybody get the speed on Hill's 8.26?
|
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
166 I believe. Fastest run by a traditional (non-Modified type) S/S.

We final got to run, stock was the last class to run. I think we finished up about 9:30. I was about four slower, but some did pick. Hudlow picked up a bunch, and took over the number one spot, getting the bye for first round.
The weather is supposed to be the same for tomorrow mornings first round as it was today. We are out first at 8 am followed but super gas and then first round class for super stock. |

Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Hey Ken,
Will post some pictures from the first sessions yesterday later today. Didn't get to stay for the night runs. NHRA has to be concerned about the track and safety, but this was one of the worst scheduled event I have attended. They just don't realize that Sportsman racers pay the way for them. From now on, will probably see most of my racing at divisionals and sportsman spectacular. Don't need all the drama of the other guys. Didn't get to see Bill Howell, but would like to get some decals. If you get some, I'll message you my address. Thanks. Butch |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Good morning everyone, just got back from first round. I don't like to report the bad things that happen at the track but my round was not the way anyone would like to win. I was racing Randy Wilkes. The run was going okay for both of us until the finish line. I could not get to the the finish line first so I let him go. I saw is nose drop, but I did nothing think anything was wrong. My win light came on, so it was obvious he broke out. I looked down at my gauges and when I looked up Randy was heading for the wall is his lane. There was lots of smoke, I don't know if it was brakes or engine. The car did a 360 and I think he tagged the wall. I wanted to get as much distance as possible from him, so I did not know for sure what happened. I kept looking back and the car was sideways, he tried to straighten it out but then it went completely around. He is okay, It could have been worse and I am happy no one was hurt.
Be back later with more info.... |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Ladder game ?Because you dont rush up .. Anyone notice all the break outs?..Some times it helps to see whats going on .You cant believe what the computers says ...Common sense still works ,I think

Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Listens guys, I know this happens at that races, but that was not an issue at this race contrary to what was reported. There was no punishment for not showing up in a timely manner. The reason we were moved was simple, lots of oil downs and a few cars that hit the wall.
Please give it a rest, thank you. |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Hey Ken, Did Peter Biondo make 1 rd of class?? And if so how did he do? Thanks.
|
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Butch, sounds good pm me.
Pete did run class, but I think he was not going for a win. I don't know if he won, it should be up on DRC shortly. |
Re: "Live From" Z Max Four Wide
Thanks Ken!!
