"Live" from St. Louis National Open
 

Well we are "back on the road again"! We are about 30 miles from St. Louis. We drove thru some pretty heavy rain, but it is clear now and a little windy. They are supposed to be running test and tune at 6 tonight, then qualifying tomorrow. I will post more after we get parked. If you are coming up I-57, there is construction where you pick up I-64, but it wasn't too bad.

Well it is still raining. It is supposed to quit by tomorrow though. If you haven't been to St. Louis yet this year, it is totally different getting into the track. You come in at the end toward the tower, then drive all the way around the back side of the track and then come in like we used to. Good luck! Of course, we came in the old way, then had to turn around and go back, but they had someone handing out a piece of paper that told you how to go. We are scheduled to start running at 10 in the morning. More tomorrow. Hopefully it will be nice out and I can get some pictures.

Well it is almost 11:00 and still raining. It looks like it won't stop until afternoon and then rain again tomorrow evening. Looks like the best we could hope for is 1 time trial, then 1st round. There has been no announcements of any kind. If anybody gets their cars out, I will try to get some pictures.

What impressed me about Gateway is that they refunded our entry as we will not be able to return next weekend. They still had employees to pay for their time. Good luck to everyone next weekend.

A little heads up for racers coming in from the east on I64. If you have one of the GPS units that will direct you around traffic take note. When you get to the Mt Vernon IL area they are rebuilding/adding lanes and there is a little traffic congestion. Tom Tom and others will try and have you exit the first exit on the east side of town, then cut through town and and re-enter I64 at the west side of town to avoid the back up. Do not do it. Traffic has been a mess all week in town (worse than out on 64)and they have decided to shut down the ramp re entering I64 fri through Mon to try and stop it. If you happen to need to get fuel there you can run down Route 15 to the west a few miles after you get fuel. When you see a Shell station out in the middle of nowhere turn right and it will lead you back to I64. I figured I would post this since I was in town this morning and met a couple of racers who got off and could not figure out how to get back on with the ramp closed.

Well here we are "Live" again! Same place, just a week later! We just went by the traffic that Rob was talking about and just got slowed down a little on the interstate. It is raining on us now, but looks like it will be cleared out by the time we get to St. Louis. The rest of the weekend looks great, just a little cool, but sunny. Ya'll come on up! Oh, BTW, today is George Widuch's birthday! Be sure to tell him "Happy Birthday"! We are having cake sometime this evening. Come on by for a piece!

The rain has gone and boy has it turned cold. It is 49 degrees and wind out of the north. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 60 and sunny. A few cars have gone down for test and tune, but we are inside staying warm! We are all teched in and ready to run tomorrow at 10. Sounds like a nice day to sleep in! I will try and get some pics tomorrow. So far we have seen Bennett, Suiter, Byrd, Whalen, Buth, Van Lant, and Summers.

We had some birthday cake for George! There is plenty left, so come on by and have some!

More tomorrow.

Awright Patsy, I want you folks to quit having fun while I'm down. I guess I ain't quite well yet. I was too tired to sit on the patio on a beautiful afternoon and have a severly cold beer. That's bad, but there is always tomorrow. Good luck to all you guys. Looks like it's gonna be fast.

Only about 20 stock and super stockers went down that run. Some cars hooked and lots didn't. I am not impressed at all with the new St. Louis! Only a few indexes put up and unless they were local, no names announced!

Well it is 9:30 on Sunday morning and there is no schedule up, no qualifying sheets up and it is raining! And it is cold! We were supposed to get another time trial this morning, but hopefully the rain has done away with that and we will go straight to racing when it stops raining. By looking at the radar it doesn't look like the rain should be here long, but it will take a while to dry the track. So more later.

We stayed in the lanes for about an hour with sprinkles, then dry, then sprinkles, then finally dry again. The right lane was not very good, with Byrd winning on a red-light, then getting squirrely in the right lane. Then Parsons almost hit the wall and lost to Suiter. We ran in the right lane, but it wasn't as bad by the time we ran.

Had our bye 3rd round.
Byrd was a no show against Owens. We have him next round.
Suiter red-lighted against O'Malley. He gets his 2nd bye of the race. (He had the random bye in the 1st round)
